When Stamford indoor bowlers took 19 points from their first three games on their EIBA Fantastic Fives debut, it looked like they could make quite a first impression.

Unfortunately it was not to be. In mostly unfamiliar conditions away from home they picked up just five points from their last five games, finishing fourth overall after a 6-2 home defeat by league leaders Melton.

In the singles Tony Barwell took a 5-2 lead after seven ends but eventually went down 6-7, while in the fours, June Brennan, Betty Sims, Jeff Bourne and Richard Martin also led 7-4 after six ends. But dropping a four count eventually cost them a 7-9 defeat.

After the break Sims, Bourne, and Martin lost the triples 5-11 but Brennan and Barwell salvaged some pride fighting back from a 2-6 deficit to win 9-7.
