Melton Medley

As they say on BBC's Bargain Hunt, there's no such thing as losers only runner ups. If there was a runners ups trophy at the end of the season our Weekend Friendly Fanatics would, as we stand at halfway through, be in strong contention. But the powers that be believe that as a match has two halves so has a season and the Friendly opposition had better watch out starting this Saturday when we defend (yes we hold it!) the annual Silver Salver against Spalding. So come on you 'Friendlyites'.

Looking back to last Saturday the slow rinks at Melton didn't suit the majority of our players. Mal Smith's rink was leading after after seven ends and then, as gently as possible, slid down the slippery slope. Jeff Bourne's was sadly behind all the way after three ends. Stand in captain Dennis Henshaw's ( you can't blame me, I wasn't there ! ) suffered the same. New to indoors, and thrown in at the deep end as skip, Martin Parker led until the ninth end. Maurice Dye was level after two then that was the end of his chances. But it wasn't all doom and gloom, we did have winning rink. Three cheers for another of our newcomers Jane Innes, who along with Graham Scothern, Howard Neath and skip Mark Hebden triumphed 34-6. On that happy note we wont publish the rink scores or the total.

We'll just look forward to next Saturday and retaining that Silver Salver. You've heard of the expression "There's no such thing as a friendly" Let's go for it !
