STAMFORD TOP CLUB AT POTTERS

Bowlers from the Stamford Indoor Club claimed the overall team trophy from their recent visit to the Potters Resort near Great Yarmouth.

Sixty-eight of them took part in the four-day trip, organised by Keith and Edna Rippin, which included 17-rinks in a total of 96 round robin matches against themselves and players from other parts of the country. The Stamford teams also included former members Pam Barton from Burgess Hill inSussex and Linda Bassett from Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire.Five of our rinks qualified from the round robin mini-leagues to take part in knock outcompetition - Vanessa Shackleton, Nancy Henson,Janet Benns & Peter Sharman; Walter Kettle, Sue Wright, Pam Barton & Chris Ballard; Val White, Jeanette & Jeff Bourne, Ian Hall; Roger Graham, Howard Neath, Gerald Corby & Alan Romaine and Philip Milden, John Lofthouse with Colin & Cherry Burgess. The rinks skipped by Cherry Burgess, Ballard and Alan Romaine (pictured above) progressed to the quarter final stage where the Burgess's met their match against ColchesterOysters. Ballard played Romaine in an exciting eight-end clash which ended when Romaine trailed the jack for a 6-5 win.

Sadly the rink was unable to extend their winning run into the final but Stamford accrued enough points to take the team title.
