IAN HALL (67) has achieved the first leg of a double ambition he aims to complete before January - by being elected the next president of Stamford Indoor Bowls Club.

The second part is to appear in pantomime alongside his grandchildren Ivy (13) and Lola (7). His son Oliver is also involved as is Oliver's partner Carrie.

Said Ian, after being inaugurated as president to succeed Arthur Lonslow, alongside Shirley Suffling who agreed to extend her role as Lady President for a further six months: "I am thrilled to take on the presidency. It is a great honour." He will join Stamford Pantomime Players' production of Dick Whittington, in the part of Bosun Bow-legs from December 27 to New Year's Day."I have only been playing bowls for four years," said the former Burghley Park and Stamford Town cricketer "and wished I had started much sooner."Ian is also a member of the Executive Guild of Toastmasters and during his presidential term, he will raise funds for the Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust, supporting research into Hydrocephalus for which his wife Ann was treated in June. The inauguration of presidents coincided with the club's annual presentations when domestic leagues and club competitions trophies were awarded.Among those recognised were two of the club's youngest members Owen Aspinall (11) (pictured above left) and Olly Jeapes (10). Owen's teams won two leagues while Olly landed the club's Under 18 title in his first year, beating Owen in a thrilling final.
