Dennis Stapleton our friendly captain reports on the last game of the friendly season:

"What a shame we didn't win the last one at Huntingdon. Reason? Most of us found the super fast greens too hot to handle and of course it's the home club of current world indoor champ and No. 1 Nicky Brett so what do you expect!

Disappointing though that he wasn't picked to play against us. Only joking. However it was a thrill for us 'friendly' lot to play on the same rinks as him. So the final score was 105 - 75 to them. But there has has been a lot of positives come out of this season's Friendlies.

For example, in this match we had two winning rinks, our best rink skipped by promising newcomer Garry Knights with his wife Tina and another very promising newcomer Jeanette Bourne. Our second winning rink was skipped by that wily old campaigner Tim Stokes ably assisted by Margaret Grainger and another newcomer into the friendly arena Pat Jones. Another newcomer was Barbara Aspinall, grandmother of seven year prodigy Owen, plus Val White and Bob Trickey who was turning out for the first time.

Well done and thank you to them and all the others who have played this year. We actually won seven of our matches and lost six which was an improvement on last season's results. Let's hope we can do even better next year and in particular retain the Welland Salver against those old rivals Spalding.

Rink scores ( Stamford names only) Val White, Bob Trickey, Mark Hebden Lost 5-19; Rosemary Roberts, Cherry Burgess, Colin Burgess lost 8-25; Barbara Aspinall, Serena Brunning, David Thorpe lost 9-23; Denis Stapleton, Maggie Holden, Maurice Dye lost 9-17; Jeanette Bourne, Tina Knights, Garry Knights won 23-11; Pat Jones, Margaret Grainger, Tim Stokes won 21-12.
