Club opens for new season on Monday, Sept 11

Stamford Indoor Bowls Club, situated at its world class facility off Exeter Gardens, has announced it will open for the new autumn/winter season on Monday, September 11 at 9.30am with the first of the daytime leagues starting at 12.05 pm that day, writes Bob Warters.

The club is also open from September 12 for regular roll-ups on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (from 9.30).

The Junior Academy has continued to run on Thursday afternoons at 4.15 pm throughout the summer and would welcome new recruits aged between 7 and 17 to join the academy to progress to the junior team and domestic leagues. First academy of the winter season will take place on Thursday September 14.

Evening leagues (6.30pm) will start on Monday, September 18 with evening roll-ups from September 11 subject to availability while summer leagues are completed. Domestic winter league fixtures are due to be distributed to team captains this week.

The first friendly fixture is on Wednesday, September 13 at home to Greetham (9.30am).

OPEN MORNINGS ON SEPTEMBER 16 & 23

The club plans to stage open mornings for those interested in taking up the sport of indoor bowls on successive Saturday's (September 16 and 23 from 9.30am).

The introductory sessions are free to all ages (from eight to 80 plus) with experienced bowlers and coaches available to show newcomers the ropes including the free use of equipment.

ENTRIES FOR OPEN SINGLES AVAILABLE NOW

Entry forms are now available for the Nigel Kettle Memorial singles tournament to be staged at Stamford IBC on September 30 & October 1 with some of the country's top internationals committed to taking part.

Entry forms can be obtained either from the club in Exeter Gardens or can be downloaded from the website (www.stamfordindoorbowls.co.uk). Cost of entry is £15 with £700 going to the winner.

Last year the event was won by Spalding's Jordan Philpott and attracted some of the biggest names in the sport including world No.1 Nick Brett and No.4 Greg Harlow and they are all again among the invitees together with some top class women bowlers.
