Eight Stamford bowlers fully justified their selection for Lincs Over 60s in their national Senior Liberty quarter-final clash against Yorkshire on their home rinks, winning both their four-man matches.

Sadly the match - played simultaneously with three rinks at Stamford and three at Featherstone near Pontefract - was lost overall 100-115 with Lincs' away rinks losing heavily.

Alan Romaine, Dave Hudson, Doug Want and Peter Edwards rarely looked in trouble and stretched their early 5-4 lead to 18-6 by the 14th end to give Lincs hope of an upset and put their own result finally beyond doubt with 12 more shots over the last six ends.

There was never more than a handful of shots in it as Stamford's Bob Warters, Malcolm Cullingworth - both ironically Yorkshire born - Derek King and Roger Martin held off a stubborn visiting rink and they eventually prevailed with six shots in the last three ends to win 18-13.

With news of the overall match result beyond reach once the scores came through from Featherstone, Les Feary's Boston rink finally crumbled, conceding 11 shots in the last eight ends.

Yorkshire will play Northamptonshire - conquerors of Suffolk - in the semi-finals.
