Stamford A end season in style with maximum points

Stamford men's A completed their Division One season in some style by taking maximum points from defending champions Boston in a 26 shot victory (101-75).

It still gives them an outside chance of winning a title that eluded them by just one point last season, but with two home games to play - against Louth and Boston - Spalding still look favourites, needing 30 points out of a possible 36 at stake.

Stamford rarely looked in trouble at picking up the overall points but with every shot vital, Cliff Watson's rink - with Richard Allam, Mike Ramsden and Keith Rippin - dug deep to pull it round from a 13-16 deficit with eight ends to play.

Three shots on the 19th end gave them a 21-18 lead and despite conceding two on the last end, claimed the points 21-20.

Elsewhere Paul Bailey's Blackstones quartet won by three and Martyn Dolby and Peter Edwards won by four.

Rink honours went to John Holroyd,Alan Barnes, Bob Warters and Roger Martyn (24-10).
