Sleaford Slaughter (well not quite but a WIN)

AFTER bacon rolls for lunch our Weekend Friendly Fighters were sizzling at Sleaford for their first win of the season. But there wasn't much in it, (126-119) "like my front room", said at least a dozen times by the host's resident comedian on rink three. Leading our charge, by firing at every opportunity, was one of our club's latest prodigy's, Helen Holroyd, daughter of legends John and Moira. One of our players on her rink was heard to say "she'll go far", to which their skip muttered under his breath "as far away as possible". Well done Helen and her playing partners Rosemary Roberts and Jill and Reg Goode whose impressive 29-11 win won them the best rink prize.

Our other rinks battled it out to the bell, even that of Tim Stokes, who in spite of losing heavily to what was considered to be Sleaford's best rink, scored an important three points on the last end. We can't tell you Tim's rink's total score as they, perhaps conveniently, forgot to hand in their scorecard. Although, upon reflection one was spotted on the way out, torn to shreds on the floor. Who can blame them ?

Our other rink scores were: Jane Innes, Maggie Holden, Denis Stapleton, Stella Henshaw won 24-16; Vanessa Shackleton, Janet Benns, John Innes, Richard Horne won 19-12; Janet Dye, Serena Brunning, Margaret Grainger, Maurice Dye won 19-18; Cherrry Burgess, Val White, Colin Burgess, Howard Neath lost 19-22.

Well done team, onwards and upwards to Boston next week, we may be on a roll, and I don't mean bacon !
