Recent results have contrived to put Stamford's mixed team in control of the destination of the Lincs Mixed League Division One championship.

Stamford currently head the table with 99 points from seven matches - 18 ahead of nearest rivals Spalding and 21 clear of Louth A, who both lost respective recent away matches against Boston and Skegness.

Spalding conceded 14 points out of 18 in a 124-109 defeat while Louth lost 100-102, conceding 12 vital points.

Stamford now need two wins from their three remaining matches away to Skegness and Lincoln A and home to Louth A to put the title beyond doubt.

Having already won the Men's Third Division title, Stamford are also top of the Men's First Division and were given a lifeline in their bid to capture the title, when Spalding were beaten at Boston 96-79, claiming only six of the 18 points available.

It puts Spalding 11 points behind Stamford on 73 points but with a match in hand. Spalding play Boston and Louth A at home while Stamford entertain Boston on March 18.

Stamford also heads the Women's (Trudy Bates ) A League - a handful of points ahead of Spalding with a game in hand - and in a promotion chasing position in the Over 60s Second Division.

Whatever happens, this is turning out to be the club's best ever season in the Lincs IBA Leagues.

The final of the Northants Federation women's pairs will be an all-Stamford affair on March 19 after Carol Hunter and Jenny Harvey (Peterborough) conceded their semi-final with Jan Want and Denise Mackie.

The Morton-based neighbours, will play Helen Holroyd and Louise Harris, who beat Moira Holroyd and Glenys Edwards in the other semi-final.
