DISAPPOINTMENT FOR 'B' TEAM AT HORNCASTLE.

Stamford Men's B team travelled to Horncastle but returned with only four of the 18 points available after a 114-77 defeat.

Roger Graham's side had been hoping to make a clean start in the Lincolnshire League second division in a bid for promotion but their hopes were washed away by two heavy rink defeats making the task too difficult to overcome on an unfamiliar surface that was allegedly still recovering from a shampoo!

Result (Stamford names only):

T Barwell, D Veasey, M Hewitt, K Gentry won 23-18; D Howarth, D Henshaw, D Heffernan, M Owens won 20-18; A Lonslow, D Miller, A McNaughton, D King lost 17-18; R Graham, M Smith, S Downs, T Chrisitie lost 10-27; D Cave, D Edwards, Richard Martin, P Linnell lost 7-33.

HARRIS BIDS FOR ENGLAND HONOURS

Stamford bowler Stephen Harris, has been invited to take part in a trial for selection to represent England in the Under 25 Home Internationals against Wales, Ireland and Scotland at Aberdeen in February.

Harris, who plays for Blackstones outdoors but has moved to the Spalding indoor club during the winter season in a bid to make his mark on the national and international scene and to gain more experience, will play lead at the trial at Rugby Thornfield on December 2 in a rink skipped by William Walker (Wellingborough).

His opposite number will be Danny Seaborne, an established international lead from Norfolk.

Also taking part will be former Stamford student Jordan Philpott, a team-mate of Harris at the Spalding club.

FOOTNOTE: Harris's sister Louise is one of three Stamford bowlers invited to take part in a regional (pre-trial) development day for England's Under 25 women's team at City of Ely IBC this weekend. The others are Katie Bailey and Helen Holroyd.
