peer 'Beurré Gambier'

Door Gambier uit Sint-Genesius-Rode bekomen. De vruchten zijn middelmatig tot bijna groot. De vruchten rijpen in januari-februari. Het vlees is wit, licht geel geaderd, smeltend, zoet. Vruchten van eerste kwaliteit. (Mas, Le verger)

Beurré Gambier (syn.: Beurrt d’Hiver Nouveau Prevost, Beurre Gris d’Hiver Nouveau according to Leroy) 1 to 2 size 1 qual January to February Short pyriforrn and even in outline ventricose at the middle skin fine thin and tender at first of a bright green strewn with numerous small dots of a dark grey colour with here and there tracings of brown russet which become thicker about the stalk when ripe the green becomes of a fine brilliant yellow with a bright red cheek on the sunny side stalk about one inch thick at its point sometimes set upright and sometimes obliquely in a small narrow but shallow cavity eye half closed and set nearly level flesk white slightly veined with yellow fine buttery and melting juice abundant sweet and sugary resembling White Doyenne A very fine fruit of first rate excellence The tree does not grow well upon the Quince It grows slowly upon the Pear and therefore forms nice pyramids for small gardens It bears early and well It was raised by M Gambier of Rhode St Genese near Brussels There must be some mistake about the synonyms of this Pear as it has no resemblance to Beurre Gris d Hiver Nouveau of Leroy or Beurre d Hiver of Prevost.
