- "Melrose Place": Jane es detenida por intentar matar a su ex-marido Michael atropellándolo con su coche, tras la negativa de él a devolverle su participación en su negocio. Pero en realidad ha sido Kimberly, que ha regresado de entre los muertos después de someterse a una atroz cirugía cerebral, usando una peluca rubia y gafas de sol. Anteriormente, Alison deja a Billy plantado en el altar al recordar que su padre John (Monte Markham) abusaba de ella cuando era niña. Amanda es acusada de acoso sexual por el amante de su madre Hillary (Linda Gray) y van a juicio. Jo rompe con Jake a pesar de que este le asegura que ya no quiere a Amanda (sólo quiere hacerle el amor...). La hermana pequeña de Jane (Laura Leighton), aún más tonta que ella, es convencida por la loca de Kimberly para simular que Michael ha intentado suicidarse y ayudarle a robar el coche de Jane. Billy flipa por un tubo cuando ve a Matt besando a su padrino de boda (aunque el beso en si fue censurado por la ABC). Finalmente, Hillary descubre cómo es en realidad su prometido y el caso es sobreseído, aunque Amanda no desea mantener ningún tipo de relación con su madre. Ah, y el padre de Alison empieza a acosarla a ella y a su hermana en San Francisco...

Esta nueva reencarnación de los seriales de hora punta exagera los rasgos satíricos, la autoparodia y el contenido sexual, al tiempo que sacrifica cualquier previo enfoque dramático en beneficio del melodramatismo "per se". Seguramente la cualidad más atractiva de la serie es la aparición constante de antiguos protagonistas de las "supersoaps" de los 80. Sólo en sus dos primeros años (que sumaron un total de 64 episodios...), el elenco de invitados incluye nombres como los ya mencionados Gray y Markham (amantes en "Dallas" pero aquí separados por distintas tramas), Beth Toussaint (también de "Dallas"), William R. Moses, Parker Stevenson, Kristian Alfonso ("Falcon Crest"), Deborah Adair ("Dinastía"), o Michelle Johnson ("Dallas: War of the Ewings"), así como futuros protagonistas de "Melrose" en otros papeles, como Rob Estes, y actores del cine actual en roles pequeños (como Famke Janssen). Al menos una vez al año, Spelling solía ofrecer a un actor de un serial conocido un papel relevante, para atraer al público potencial (y de mayor edad).

- "Melrose Place": Jane is arrested for trying to kill her ex-husband Michael with her car, after he has refused to give his share of her her business back. But it actually was Kimberly, back from the dead and having suffered an atrocious brain surgery, the one who did it, wearing a blond wig and sun-glasses. Before that, Alison leaves Billy stuck in the aisle when she remembers that her father John (Monte Markham) abused her when she was a child. Amanda is suited by her mother Hillary´s (Linda Gray) lover for harassing him. Jo breaks up with Jake though he assures her that he doesn´t love Amanda (only likes making love to her). Jane´s younger (and even dumber) sister Sydney (Laura Leighton) is convinced by crazybat Kimberly to fake Michael´s suicide attempt and help her steal Jane's car. Billy flips out when he sees Matt kissing his best man (though the kiss actually was censored by ABC). Finally, Hillary sees her fiancé´s true colors and their case is thrown out, but Amanda doesn´t want to have any kind of relationshop with her. Oh and Alison´s father stalks her and her sister in San Francisco...

This new reincarnation of the primetime soaps emphasizes the satirical traits, self-parody and sex innuendo while sacrifices any prior dramatic approach on behalf of pure over-the-top soapiness. Probably, the most attractive quality of the show is the constant appearances of former stars of the 80´s supersoaps. Only in its first two years (which summed up a total of 64 episodes!), the guest cast include such names as the aforementioned Gray and Markham (lovers on "Dallas" but in different storylines here), Beth Toussaint (also from "Dallas"), William R. Moses, Parker Stevenson, Kristian Alfonso ("Falcon Crest"), Deborah Adair ("Dynasty"), or Michelle Johnson ("Dallas: War of the Ewings"), as well as future "Melrose" stars in other roles, like Rob Estes, and current movie actors in minor parts (like Famke Janssen). At least once a year, Spelling used to give a major supersoap actor a relevant role, thus appealing potential (and older) audiences.

- Melrose Place: "Esto no es lo que parece. Es peor..." Aunque no era el eslogan de la serie en aquella época, pudo haberlo sido perfectamente. Estas frases fueron pronunciadas con maldad por el personaje de Kimberly, antes de detonar cuatro bombas en el edificio de apartamentos (más abajo ampliamos la información) con todo el reparto dentro (a excepción de Jake y el gay residente Matt). Alison, tras dejar un empleo bien pagado en Hong Kong, vuelve a beber cuando Billy se casa con una presunta heredera, la oportunista sin corazón Brooke (Kristin Davis), delante de sus desesperados ojos. Sin embargo, la joven es desheredada por su padre Hayley (Perry King) y los recién casados deben mudarse al antiguo apartamento de él. Jo da por terminada su relación con el agresivo hermano de Jake, Jess (Dan Cortese) y, cuando este le da una paliza, Jake se enzarza en una pelea con él en la obra donde trabaja, y ambos caen desde un piso elevado. Syd es atada y amordazada por Kimberly cuando descubre su diabólico plan, Jane inicia una relación con el diseñador Richard (Patrick Muldoon), casado con su asociada Mackenzie (Morgan Brittany), mayor que él, y Matt es acusado falsamente del asesinato de la mujer de su amante Paul (David Beecroft), Carol (Dana Sparks). Al mismo tiempo, el Dr. Peter Burns (Jack Wagner) ha regresado e intenta hacer las paces con Amanda.

El productor Aaron Spelling, preocupado porque el recurso de la bomba podría recordar la reciente tragedia de Oklahoma City, conservó esta trama, aunque con algunos cambios: Kimberly planeaba provocar la explosión y atraí a todos hasta el lugar con sus argucias. Pero, en vez de accionar el detonador, la imagen se congelaba antes de la explosión. Inicialmente, sin embargo, la temporada iba a acabar con una avioneta (con Syd en su interior) estrellándose contra el edificio, siguiendo también las locas ideas de Kimberly. - Melrose Place: "This is not what it looks like. It´s worse". Though this wasn´t the show´s motto at the time, it might perfectly have been. The line was delivered wickedly by the Kimberly character, before detonating four bombs at the apartment complex (more about that below), with the whole cast (except Jake and the resident gay Matt) in it. Alison, after quitting a well-paid job in Hong Kong, falls off the wagon when Billy marries the presumed heiress, and heartless opportunist, Brooke (Kristin Davis) in front of her desperate eyes. However, the girl is disowned by her father Hayley (Perry King) and the newlyweds have to move into his former apartment. Jo breaks up with Jake´s pushy brother Jess (Dan Cortese) and, after he batters her, Jake fights with him on a construction site and both of them fall down. Syd is tied up and gagged by Kimberly when she discovers her crazy plan, Jane starts a relationship with designer Richard (Patrick Muldoon), married to his older associate Mackenzie, played by Morgan Brittany), and Matt is framed for murdering his lover Paul´s (David Beecroft) wife Carol (Dana Sparks). At the same time, Dr. Peter Burns (Jack Wagner) has resurfaced and tries to make up with Amanda.

Producer Aaron Spelling, worried about the bomb aspect of the story because of then recent Oklahoma City tragedy, kept parts of the storyline intact, but did make some changes, too. Kimberly still plotted the explosion and devilishly lured everyone together. But instead of hitting the detonator, the final ending had the frame freezing before the explosion. Though originally, the season was going to end with a plane (with Syd inside) crashing over the building, also following Kimberly´s crazy ideas. Among the actors brought back from the supersoaps that season were Ken Howard and Tom Schanley ("Dynasty"), John Saxon (from "Falcon Crest", like Beecroft and Sparks), and David James Elliott ("Knots Landing"). In the meantime, Linda Gray and her "Models Inc." bit the dust and became a historic soap fiasco, despite the presence of familiar names like Emma "Dynasty" Samms or John "Dallas" Beck.

- "Modelos": ¿Qué hay que hacer cuando se cierra la 1ª temporada de una serie con "cliffhanger"...y esta acaba cancelándose? En plena boda de Adam (James Wilder), dueño de un club, y la modelo Monique (Stephanie Romanov), un asesino a sueldo (interpretado por nada menos que el futuro Harris Ryland de la nueva "Dallas", Mitch Pileggi) dispara su arma contra él, pero la mujer que le ha contratado, Grayson (Emma Samms), que además es la ex mujer de Adam, se apresura a ponerse delante de él cuando coge en brazos al hijo de ambos, Daniel. ¿A quién ha matado el francotirador? ¿O no ha matado a nadie? ¿Y llegará a cobrar algún día? Como un episodio de "Enredo", así es como terminó "Modelos."

Aunque la conclusión de esta escena en particular se añade más tarde para su emisión fuera de EE.UU., otras tramas quedan abiertas: Cynthia (Garcelle Beauvais) y su colega Julie (Kylie Travis) intentan alejar a la hermanastra de esta última, Anna (Lisa Akey), de su novio el fotógrafo Brian (Cameron Daddo). Sarah (Cassidy Rae) se somete a tratamiento para superar su adicción; Carrie (Carrie-Anne Moss, luego famosa por "Matrix") revela a Hillary que su agencia ha sido utilizada por Grayson como tapadera de una red de prostitución, y luego se ve atrapada en un plan que termina con ella vendida como esclava blanca en Centroamérica.

Sentando precedente, se rueda un final para cerrar el "cliffhanger" cuando la Fox cancela la serie. En la nueva versión, estrenada en el mercado exterior y en el canal por cable E!, Grayson recibe el disparo y muere al proteger a su hijo. Julie acepta la propuesta de matrimonio del escritor Craig (Don Michael Paul) y Hillary decide cerrar la agencia. Carrie sigue prisionera en Centroamérica aparentemente, sin que su retorcida trama consiga un final feliz (por lo que allí debe seguir aún, en el limbo de los seriales).

- Models Inc.: What can you do when you finish a show´s first season with a cliffhanger...and the show is eventually cancelled? In the middle of the wedding of club owner Adam (James Wilder) and model Monique (Stephanie Romanov), a hitman (played by no other than the future Harris Ryland from TNT´s "Dallas", Mitch Pileggi) shoots his gun to kill him, but the woman who hired him, Grayson (Emma Samms), also Adam´s ex, races in front of him when he picks up their son Daniel. Whom has the hitman killed? Has he killed anybody? And will he ever get paid? As if it were an episode of "Soap", that was the end of "Models Inc."

Though the conclusion to this particular scene was added later for its overseas airing, other storylines were left unfinished: Cynthia (Garcelle Beauvais) and her colleague Julie (Kylie Travis) try to keep Julie´s stepsister Anna (Lisa Akey) away from the latter's boyfriend, photographer Brian (Cameron Daddo). Sarah (Cassidy Rae) is put under treatment for her addiction; Carrie (Carrie-Anne Moss, later of "The Matrix" fame) reveals to Hillary that her agency has been used by Grayson as a front for a prostitution ring and then she is entrapped in a plot that ends up with her sold into white slavery in Central America.

In an unusual move, an ending was filmed to wrap up the cliffhanger left unresolved when Fox cancelled the series. In the new version, which aired overseas and on the E! cable channel, Grayson was shot and killed as she dove atop her son. Julie accepted a marriage proposal from writer Craig (Don Michael Paul), and Hillary decided to shut down the agency. Carrie apparently remained trapped in Central America, with no happy resolution for her plot twist (so she must remain out there, in the soap limbo).

- Melrose Place: ¿De qué manera puede igualarse un "cliffhanger" tan explosivo como el de la temporada anterior? ¿Tal vez con un "zombie"? Eso es lo que hacen los productores de "Melrose": Jane y Syd, seguras de haber matado al ex amante y violador de Jane, Richard, lo entierran en algún lugar lejos de Melrose. Pero cuando se han marchado, una mano surge de debajo del terreno. Kimberly ha desarrollado personalidad múltiple. Peter es acusado del asesinato (en realidad accidente) de Bobby Parezi (John Enos III), hermano del difunto ex marido de Amanda, pero la coartada de Peter sólo la puede proporcionar una de las personalidades de Kimberly. Betsy, la más demente de todas, interna a Peter en un sanatorio y, ayudada por la enfermera Benson (Priscilla Presley), intenta practicarle una lobotomía, pero Amanda y Michael lo rescatan. Kimberly cae desde un balcón durante la persecución y entra en coma. Jo decide marcharse a Bosnia con el doctor "cachas" Dominick O´Malley (Brad Johnson). Matt se engancha a las anfetas para poder aprobar los exámenes de Medicina. Dividida entre Billy y Jake, Alison decide entablar una relación con el segundo. Amanda se casa con Peter en la cárcel para que no tenga que testificar contra él, pero, cuando vuelve a casa, un detective le informa de que Peter usa un nombre y una identidad falsos.

Los creadores, productores y guionistas pueden ir y venir, pero, en toda producción de Aaron Spelling, cuando una fórmula funciona, no hay necesidad de cambiar nada. Recurrir a la antigua Jenna Wade de "Dallas" es una de sus decisiones más oscuras y absurdas, sobre todo para un final de temporada. Daphne Zuñiga se convierte en la primera (y no la última) protagonista que abandona la serie, cuya cuarta temporada encaja más en el estilo de las "supersoaps" de los 80 que en el de los dramas de veinteañeros de los 90: más lujo, espectaculares escenas de acción, muertes "reales" y un lento declive una vez se agotan las tramas iniciadas por Darren Starr. Siguen como invitados en la 1ª mitad de esta temporada Kristin Davis (futura Charlotte en "Sexo en Nueva York") y Perry King (futuro patriarca de "Titans").

- Melrose Place: What a better way to top such an explosive cliffhanger as the previous season´s? Maybe by ending it with a zombie? That´s what the "Melrose" producers do: Jane and Syd, believing they have killed Jane´s ex-lover and rapist Richard, bury him somewhere far from Melrose. But once they are gone, a hand appears from the grounds. Kimberly has developed a multiple personality. Peter is accused of the murder (actually an accident) of Bobby Parezi (John Enos III), brother of Amanda´s late mob ex-husband, but Peter´s alibi is one of Kimberly´s personalities. Betsy, the craziest one of all, checks Peter into a sanitarium and, assisted by Nurse Benson (Priscilla Presley) proceeds to perform a lobotomy on his brain, but Amanda and Michael rescue him. Kimberly falls from a balcony during the chase and gets into a coma. Jo decides to leave for Bosnia with the hunkie doctor Dominick O´Malley (Brad Johnson). Matt becomes addicted to amphetamines to catch up with his Med studies. Torn between Billy and Jake, Alison decides to start a relationship with the latter. Amanda marries Peter in jail so she won´t have to testify against him but, when she comes home, a detective reports her that he is using a fake name and identity...

Creators, producers and writers may come and may go, but, in every Aaron Spelling production, when a formula works, there is no need for fixing. Turning to the former Jenna Wade from "Dallas" is one of his darkest, dumber moves, especially for a cliffhanger. Daphne Zuñiga becomes the first (and not last) star to quit the show, whose fourth season belongs to the 80´s supersoaps rather than to the 90´s 20something dramas: more luxury, spectacular stunts, "real" deaths and a slow decline after Darren Starr´s storylines have already been exhausted. Still guest-starring in the first half of this season are Kristin Davis (future Charlotte on "Sex and the City") and Perry King (future patriarch on "Titans").

- Melrose Place: Poco después de casarse con el millonario Craig Field (David Charvet), Sydney muere atropellada por un conductor borracho, el padre fugituvo de Samantha (Brooke Langton). Previamente, el restaurador Kyle McBride (Rob Estes) impide que su asociada Amanda (que ha perdido la agencia) se vaya a N.Y., durmiendo con ella. La ex prostituta Megan (Kelly Rutherford), ahora esposa de Michael, le repudia a causa de sus intrigas. Peter empuja a Michael por una ventana sabiendo que se había conchavado con la ex mujer de Kyle, Taylor (Lisa Rinna), para poder robarle su cargo. Taylor, ahora amante de Peter, le dice que está embarazada justo cuando él iba a empujarla desde lo alto de un faro. Alison, que ha recaído otra vez en la bebida, presiona a Jake para que empiece una nueva vida en Ojai con su hijo y su madre Colleen (Stacy Haiduk), y decide divorciarse de él y mudarse a Atlanta. Matt obtiene la custodia de su sobrina adolescente Chelsea (Katie Wright) tras enfrentarse en los tribunales con su madre.

Este final de temporada ve la partida de más protagonistas originales, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Grant Show y Laura Leighton. Los recién llegados que pronto pasarán a la cabecera son David Charvet, Lisa Rinna, Rob Estes y Kelly Rutherford. Doug Savant sólo aparecerá en un episodio más, el primero de la temporada 6. Como actores invitados aparecen, entre otros, nombres tan conocidos como los de Greg Evigan (visto en seriales como "Dallas", "La rosa amarilla" y, justo después de "Melrose", también "Pacific Palisades"), Stephen Macht (Joe Cooper en "California", y también protagonista de "Hospital General"), Alyssa Milano (luego famosa por "Embrujadas") y otra estrella de "California", Donna Mills, en el papel de la madre natural de Jane.

Before that, restaurant owner Kyle McBride (Rob Estes) stops his associate Amanda (who´s lost the agency) from leaving to N.Y. by sleeping with her. Former prostitute Megan (Kelly Rutherford), now Michael´s wife, rejects him due to his schemes. Peter throws Michael through a window after knowing that he´s been scheming with Kyle´s ex-wife Taylor (Lisa Rinna) so he can get his job. Taylor, now Peter´s lover, tells him that she´s pregnant, just when he was going to push her off a lighthouse. Alison, off the wagon again, schemes to make Jake start a new life in Ojai with his son and his mother Colleen (Stacy Haiduk), and decides to divorce him and move to Atlanta. Matt gets the custody of his teenage niece Chelsea (Katie Wright) after battling her mother in court.

This season finale sees the departure of original cast members Courtney Thorne-Smith, Grant Show and Laura Leighton. Doug Savant would only appear in the Premiere of the next season. Newcomers soon included in the title credits are David Charvet, Lisa Rinna, Rob Estes, and Kelly Rutherford. Doug Savant will only appear in one more episode, the Season 6 premiere. Guest-starring in Season 5 were, among others, such well-known names as Greg Evigan (seen in soaps like early "Dallas", "The Yellow Rose", and, right after "Melrose", also in "Pacific Palisades"), Stephen Macht (Joe Cooper in "Knots Landing" and also seen in "General Hospital"), Alyssa Milano (later of "Charmed" fame), and another "Knots" alum, Donna Mills as Jane´s natural mother.

- Melrose Place: Billy y la hermana de Michael, Jennifer (Alyssa Milano), se reconcilian y se van a vivir a Roma, mientras su ex mujer Sam le propone matrimonio al as del béisbol Jeff (Dan Gauthier). Taylor deja la ciudad con su hijo recién nacido, para sorpresa del padre de éste, Michael, y su ex y futura mujer Jane, que iban a quedarse con el niño. Kyle sospecha que Amanda puede estar engañándole con Peter, que la ha rescatado de un secuestrador. Megan impide que Brett (Linden Ashby) asesine a su ex mujer Lexi (Jamie Luner), pero luego la repudia y se va a Philadelphia.

Los últimos siete episodios de la temporada 6 son aplazados hasta el verano. La Fox los emite como si pertenecieran a la séptima temporada, aunque habían sido filmados para la sexta. Andrew Shue, Alyssa Milano, Lisa Rinna, Brooke Langton y Linden Ashby abandonan la serie en el "cliffhanger" original, emitido el 7 de septiembre.

- Melrose Place: Billy and Michael´s sister Jennifer (Alyssa Milano) make up and move to Rome together, while his ex-wife Sam proposes to baseball star Jeff (Dan Gauthier). Taylor leaves town with her newborn baby, to surprise of his father Michael and his ex and future wife Jane, who were going to keep the child. Kyle suspects that Amanda may be cheating him with Peter, who has rescued her from a kidnapper. Megan stops Brett (Linden Ashby) from killing his ex-wife Lexi (Jamie Luner), but then he dumps her and moves to Philadelphia.

The remaining seven episodes of season 6 were held off until summer. Fox passed them off as part of the seventh season, even though they had been produced for season 6. Andrew Shue, Alyssa Milano, Lisa Rinna, Brooke Langton and Linden Ashby leave the show in the original cliffhanger aired on September 7.

Jane y Kyle acuerdan vivir juntos y educar juntos al hijo de Michael como si fuera suyo. Lexi sigue dirigiendo su empresa de publicidad mientras Kyle recibe anónimamente el collar que regaló a Amanda.

Now he becomes chief-of-staff after being dumped by Lexi. Kyle´s brother Ryan (John Haymes Newton) and Megan get permission to raise his daughter Sarah (Chea Courtney) from her aunt and legal guardian Terry (Alexandra Paul). Singer Eve Cleary (Rena Sofer) is arrested for Peter and Amanda´s "murder" and committed into an asylum. Jane and Kyle agree to live together and rise Michael´s baby as their own. Lexi continues running her ad company while Kyle receives anonymously the necklace that he gave to Amanda.

One week after the airing of the aforementioned episode, Season 7 unofficially begins, with episode "The World According to Matt", introducing a new main character played by John Haymes Newton (previously seen in "Models Inc."). The famous faces as guest stars are replaced in this last season by music bands and singers, among them Diana Krall and Chris Isaak. The show says goodbye to its audience the following May, with a one-minute montage of clips from all 7 seasons.

Gwen has Heather arrested in the middle of a party, but she is quickly released, and Gwen is furious to see Jack consoling her. Peter eventually proposes to Samantha, but Maureen (Brittney Powell) reappears with more blackmail demands. Jenny tries to keep Laurie away from David by setting her up with someone else. Gwen tells them that she is tired of serving as their referee. Scott (Jason George) becomes attracted to a woman who works for the aviation division's chief competitor. He fears that she stole information from him. Peter pays off Maureen, but warns her to stay away for good. Peter and Samantha travel to her grandfather's winery to ask for his blessing. Faith dumps Ethan in favor of her other boyfriend, but Ethan wins her back by following Jack's advice and sharing his feelings. Jenny sabotages a concert at the club in an attempt to make Laurie look bad.After an encounter with a high school classmate, Heather admits to Chandler that she has been lying about her past. Her past is back, and it's haunting her. Jack and Gwen sleep together, but Gwen considers their night together a mistake.

Mientras, el roquero Drew Pragin (Nick Zano) intenta que Michael Mancini practique una peligrosa operación de corazón, pero Michael le pone una trampa y Drew es detenido por posesión de drogas, encarcelado y expulsado de la UCLA. Acaba confesándole a su profesora Riley Richmond (Jessica Lucas) que el Dr. Mancini le operó cinco meses antes y ahora podría morir en cualquier momento. On the first (and last, uh oh!) Season Finale of "Melrose Place 2.0", Amanda Woodward officially fires bisexual publicist Ella Simms (Katie Cassidy) from WPK and cuts off all Ella's severance pay and referrals. However, Ella will not go down with out a fight and she soon finds the stolen painting that Amanda has been looking for and blackmails her for it. Meanwhile, rock singer Drew Pragin (Nick Zano) tries to stop Michael Mancini from performing a dangerous heart surgery, but Michael sets him up to get caught with drugs, causing Drew to be thrown in jail, and out of UCLA. Eventually, Drew confesses to school teacher Riley Richmond (Jessica Lucas) that he had a surgery five months ago by Dr. Mancini which results now that he may die anytime. Hearing about Drew's plight, Med student turned-into-callgirl Lauren Yung (Stephany Jacobsen) risks her job and career to stop Dr. Mancini from another M-valve surgery by announcing out his secret in front of his surgical team. Michael´s son David Breck (Shaun Sipos) and Lauren reconcile, but the jealous, wild-child Morgan McKellan (Melissa Ordway) seeks revenge by having her equally evil gangster father (Joe Lando) beat up and blackmail David into performing robberies for him. Aspiring filmmaker Jonah Miller (Michael Rady) asks Riley to reconcile after the NYU reunion program but she denies out of pride. Elsewhere, Amanda becomes haunted by deceased Sydney Andrews' illusion, and eventually she is arrested for fraud, vowing revenge against Ella.

This frustrated sequel to the original Darren Starr soap of the 90´s starts with only one actor from the mother series in its regular cast, Thomas Calabro. Laura Leighton (reprising her former role of Sydney in a storyline initially planned for Heather Locklear´s Amanda Woodward) guest-stars in 7 episodes, though mostly in flashbacks since she is murdered in the Pilot. Locklear herself is brought back in the 8 last episodes as a way to rise the ratings. Other well-known actors who make cameos are Josie Bissett (in 2 episodes) and Daphne Zuñiga (only in one).

On "Revenge"´s first cliffhanger, revenge-obsessed heroine Amanda / Emily (Emily VanCamp) and her accomplice Nolan (Gabriel Mann) discover that her presumed dead mother Kara might be alive. Previously, pompous heir Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman) threatens to drop his (very bitchy) mother Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) if she ruins his (very corrupt) father's (Henry Czerny) firm, while the latter warns her their children's future would be wrecked too. Even so, she and her ex-friend (and her husband´s ex-lover) Lydia (Amber Valletta) fly to Washington with federal agent John McGowen (Michael Reilly Burke). Conrad however blackmails the mysterious white-haired man to put a bomb in their airplane and both women are reportedly dead. Emily fears all her scheming was for nothing, but Nolan copies all the evidence and shows a further recording, proving Conrad hired the albino to kill her father, so instructed by the mysterious American Initiative. Daniel dumps Emily after hearing about her night with Jack (Nick Wechsler). Emily had decided to choose Jack, but that falls through as the fake Amanda (Margarita Levieva) is pregnant, apparently carrying Jack's baby. Declan (Connor Paolo) dumps Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) after a mean Internet trick played on his new prep school friend Jaime (Rachel DiPillo), so he's not ready to help when Victoria's death renders Charlotte suicidal.

This update of the 80´s supersoaps is based on the premise of the relentless vengeance of a young woman whose father was sentenced to jail and murdered there, despite his innocence. Among its assets are a stylish mise-en-scene (including computer-created settings), a cast of effective (and good-looking) actors, and a suspenseful storyline that makes the show much more interesting than any of its primetime precedents from the New Millennium. Among this season´s guest stars is "Knots Landing"´s William Devane as Conrad´s father. The cliffhanger´s biggest mystery (aside from the unlikely death of its main character Victoria) resides in the identity of the actress who will play Emily´s mother. The next season will reveal that her performer is Jennifer Jason Leigh.

On TNT "Dallas"´s initial cliffhanger, Christopher´s (Jesse Metcalfe) wife Rebecca (Julie Gonzalo), pregnant with his twin babies, kills her presumed brother Tommy Sutter (Callard Harris) in self-defense. She calls her father, who turns out to be Cliff Barnes, mastermind of their plot to marry into the Ewing family. John Ross (Josh Henderson) proposes to Elena (Jordana Brewster), and hires the former Ewing Oil offices for their company Ewing Energies. After over-hearing John Ross´s confession about his involvement with the fake Marta del Sol (Leonor Varela), Elena breaks up with him and sends her mother Carmen (Marlene Forte) to give him back her engagement ring. Later Christopher goes to Elena's and tells her she´s the one he really loves. Ann (Brenda Strong) tricks Harris Ryland (Mitch Pileggi) so as to undo his blackmail on Sue Ellen, who does resumes her campaign for governor of Texas.

This first 10-episode season focuses on the introduction of the four young characters, John Ross, Christopher, Pamela Rebecca (all created in the original series) and Elena (the daugher of the Ewings´ presumed longtime Mexican maid). Much more crime-oriented and much less romance-based than CBS´ "Dallas", it casts three "Desperate Housewives" alumni as Bobby´s new wife Ann (played by Brenda Strong) and his son Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe), and J.R.´s son John Ross (Josh Henderson). It also features cameos of other original stars aside from Hagman, Gray and Duffy, like Charlene Tilton, Steve Kanaly and Ken Kercheval, who will become a regular after the cliffhanger episode that reveals he actually is Rebecca´s father. The highly appealing supporting cast includes Cástulo Guerra ("Falcon Crest"), Carlos Bernard and Glenn Morshower ("24"), and Mitch Pileggi ("The X-Files").

Con anterioridad, Jack pierde a su hermano Declan como consecuencia de la explosión que destruyó varios pisos en el edificio de Grayson Global, dejando sola a su ex novia embarazada Charlotte. Nolan es detenido por delitos contra su patria y le muestran un vídeo donde su difunta novia Padma (Dilshad Vadsaria) le acusa de ser el cómplice del padre de Emily y Charlotte, David Clarke (James Tupper), e identificándole como responsable de la Iniciativa. Daniel descubre que su padre sabía que habría una explosión y Victoria cree que su marido siempre ha pertenecido a la Iniciativa. Conrad le revela que ésta nunca ha existido: sólo se trata de un grupo de hombres de negocios astutos que se aprovechan de las catástrofes. Aiden (Barry Sloane) le pide a Emily que huya con él pero ella se niega. Victoria recibe la visita-sorpresa de alguien que no esperaba volver a ver: su hijo secreto Patrick.

Esta temporada la serie sustituye los episodios autoconclusivos con una trama criminal larga y enrevesada que llega a alejar a parte de la audiencia. On "Revenge"´s second cliffhanger, Emily eventually confesses to Jack that she’s the real Amanda Clarke, just when he was going to shoot Conrad during his victory speech. Prior to that, Jack loses his brother Declan as a consequence of the explosion that destroyed several floors in the Grayson Global building, leaving his ex-girlfriend Charlotte pregnant. Nolan is arrested for crimes against his country, and is shown a video where his deceased lover Padma (Dilshad Vadsaria) fingers him as the disciple of Emily´s and Charlotte´s father David Clarke (James Tupper), claiming Nolan is the Initiative. Daniel realizes his father knew the explosion was coming while Victoria believes her husband has been with the Initiative all along, but Conrad says there’s never really been an Initiative. It’s just a bunch of savvy business people who profit from disasters. Aiden (Barry Sloane) asks Emily to run away with him from all this but she declines. Victoria is surprised by an unexpected visitor, her long lost son Patrick.

This second season replaces the stand-alone episodes with a long, convoluted crime storyline that somehow will push its audience away. The two-hour finale features its best cliffhanger with several thrilling situations. That year´s guest cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh as Emily´s unstable mother Kara in 7 episodes. One of the last scenes, once again, is based on the identity of the actor who will play a character in the next season. This time is Victoria´s secret son Patrick, incarnated by "Smallville"´s star Justin Hartley.

On TNT "Dallas"´s second cliffhanger, the Ewings take over Barnes Global and Ewing Energies and celebrate the success of JR´s "masterpiece" by hanging his portrait at the offices in the Ewing Building. John Ross, now married to Pamela Barnes, follows his late father´s steps when he reprises her affair with Ann´s daughter Emma (Emma Bell) at exchange of Harris's business secrets. Bobby reads to John Ross and Chris the letter left by J.R., and they learn he was dying of cancer and, with the complicity of Bum (Kevin Page), set up his own suicide and framed Cliff Barnes for it. Bobby gives him a chance to get rid of jail if he comes clean about the rig explosion but he refuses. Then Cliff shows Elena papers that prove that JR switched the deeds when her father bought them a land belonging to Southfork. He gave him worthless land instead of his oil rich land that made millions. Cliff proposes Elena to continue his vengeance plot against the Ewings. She visits a mysterious man named Joaquín in Mexico. Christopher finds out that her mother Pamela died of pancreatic cancer in 1989, just when she was willing to come back to them. Her old surgeon and nurse had been paid big sums from Cliff to keep her death secret. Now Chris will inherit her third of the Barnes Global shares. However he rejects Elena when he learns that she shared Drew's (Kuno Becker) blackmailed bomb maker secret. Drew manages to find and trap Roy (Alex Fernandez), who is arrested for Ryland's drug scam and killed in jail, and then he escapes. Sue Ellen turns the governor's blackmail cover-up on them to demand undoing Ewing Oil's expropriation under eminent domain. Emma gets her father drugged and steals his journals with the evidence of his drug business, and returns to Southfork and her mother. Harris is arrested and imprisoned by the police.

In its first 15-episode season, TNT´s "Dallas" brings back Charlene Tilton and Steve Kanaly occasionally again, as well as Audrey Landers as Pamela´s mother Afton, and both "Knots Landing"´s stars, Ted Shackelford and Joan Van Ark. The special episode centered on J.R.´s funeral will include the presence of other former "Dallas" stars like Cathy Podewell and Deborah Shelton. Guest-starring are Judith Light ("Law & Order: SVU"), Emma Bell ("The Walking Dead"), Annie Wersching ("24"), Kuno Becker ("The Defenders"), Lee Majors ("The 6 Million Dollar Man"), Steven Weber ("Brothers & Sisters"), and Sam Anderson ("Lost").

Aiden se enfrenta con Michelle Banks (Amy Landecker), la terapeuta que intentó lavarle el cerebro a Emily de pequeña, pero Victoria droga el té de Aiden y lo mata ahogándole con un cojín. David es declarado oficialmente inocente, y Daniel consuela a Margaux Le Marchal (Karine Vanasse) tras la muerte de su padre Pascal (Olivier Martinez), a manos de Conrad. El hermano de ella, Gideon (Daniel Zovatto), conspira con Nolan para hundir a su hermana y a Daniel. Tras pasar una noche de fiesta, éste encuentra en su cama a una mujer muerta. Gideon le asegura que murió por una sobredosis de cocaína a la que él la invitó para acostarse con Daniel, y quiere usar la foto para chantajearle.

En el final definitivo de "Dallas" en la TNT, John Ross descubre por Emma y Bum un sorprendente secreto sobre J.R.: tiene una hermanastra. Christopher localiza a Elena y, de vuelta a Dallas, es asesinado cuando una bomba explota en su coche. Bobby y Sue Ellen forman una nueva alianza para proteger el negocio familiar contra John Ross, quien a su vez revela que a partir de ahora trabajará codo a codo con la nueva Comisionada de Ferrocarriles, su enemiga jurada Judith Ryland (Judith Light). Elena descubre horrorizada que su amante Nicolás Treviño (Juan Pablo di Pace) es responsable de la muerte de su hermano e intenta matarle, pero Chris la detiene y Joaquín se escapa. Siguiendo su política de conceder más relevancia a las tramas de los latinos que a las de los mismos Ewing, la productora Cynthia Cidre contrata al actor Juan Pablo di Pace (visto en varias series españolas) en un ambiguo papel protagonista. Esta temporada, dividida en dos mitades, es decisiva para el futuro de "Dallas", y la TNT acaba cancelándola, a pesar de que deja dos importantes cuestiones sin respuesta. On "Revenge"´s third cliffhanger, Victoria awakens to find herself strapped down to a bed inside of a psychiatric hospital, while Emily makes a satisfied exit as Victoria’s frantic screams echo throughout the hospital halls. Conrad escapes from prison, only to be stabbed by Emily´s presumably dead father. Aiden confronts Michelle Banks (Amy Landecker), the therapist who tried to brainwash Emily when she was still a young girl, but Victoria drugs Aiden’s tea and kills him by suffocating him with a pillow. David Clarke is officially declared an innocent man. Daniel comforts Margaux (Karine Vanasse) for the death of her father Pascal (Olivier Martinez), killed by Conrad. Margaux´s brother Gideon (Daniel Zovatto) conspires with Nolan to take down Daniel and Margaux. A hungover Daniel awakens to find a woman dead in the bed. Gideon says the girl overdosed on the coke he paid her with to cozy up to Daniel and wants to use the picture to blackmail Daniel.

In its third season, "Revenge" is given a makeover by the new producing / writing team, after its creator Mike Kelley´s departure. Joining last year´s new star Barry Sloane in the main cast are Karine Vanasse ("Pan Am"), the aforementioned Justin Hartley, Stephany Jacobsen (the revamped "Melrose Place"), Gail O´Grady ("Desperate Housewives"), Brett Cullen and Morgan Fairchild ("Falcon Crest", the latter in a brief cameo) and French movie star Olivier Martinez.

On TNT "Dallas"´s Series Finale, John Ross learns through Emma and Bum a shocking secret about J.R.: he has a half-sister. Christopher finds Elena and, on their way back to Dallas, he is killed when a bomb in his car is detonated. Bobby and Sue Ellen form a new alliance to protect the family business against John Ross, who reveals that now he will work with the new Railroad Commissioner, their sworn enemy Judith Ryland (Judith Light). Elena discovers horrified that her lover Nicolás Treviño (Juan Pablo di Pace) is responsible for her brother´s death and tries to kill him, but Chris stops her and Joaquín runs away. Bobby manages to dismantle the drug cartel thanks to John Ross's help, and brings Ann and Emma back home. However Treviño´s men are murdered in prison, and he flies away. Harris sees himself dominated by his mother again, while Pamela rejects her husband´s attempts at reconciliation, and, after disowning her father, finds out that she will no longer controls Ewing Global.

Following her policy of giving the Latinos´ storylines even more relevance than to the Ewings´ themselves, show-runner Cynthia Cidre hires "Camp"´s actor Juan Pablo di Pace in a dual starring role. This season, divided into two halves, is pivotal for the show's future, and TNT eventually cancels "Dallas" even though it left two big plot questions unanswered. Among the supporting stars are AnnaLynne McCord (the new "90210"), Antonio Jaramillo ("Meet the Browns"), Gino Anthony Pesi ("The Vampire Diaries"), Mexican telenovela star Angélica Celaya, Fran Kranz ("JourneyQuest"), Pej Vahdat ("Shameless"), Miguel Sandoval ("Medium"), and last but not least, Melinda Clarke ("Nikita"), replacing the original Beth Toussaint as Tracey McKay Lawton.

Emily also gets a bullet from Victoria but survives. The judge exonerates David because he has few months left to live. A recovered Charlotte doesn´t attend her mother´s funeral but keeps his true father David in her memory. "Revenge"´s fourth season plays its last cards, after killing off such characters as Conrad, Aiden and Pascal in the previous episodes. The new additions are Brian Hallisay ("The Client List"), Elena Satine ("Magic City"), Carolyn Hennesy and Courtney Ford ("True Blood"), Tommy Flanagan ("Sons of Anarchy"), Ed Quinn ("Eureka"), Gina Torres ("24"), rock singer Courtney Love, and a brief appearance of "Empire"´s future star Jussie Smollett. "Men in Trees"´ James Tupper, until then only present in flashbacks as Emily's dead father, reprises his role as a regular character in this last season.

On "Empire"´s first cliffhanger, corrupt hip-hop music tycoon Lucious Lyons (Terrence Howard) swears revenge against all the people he thinks have betrayed him: his ex-wife and ex-convict Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), two of his three sons, the bipolar first-born Andre (Trai Byers) and the unmature hit singer Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). Lucious has been arrested and jailed for the murder of his relative Bunkie (Antoine McKay), witnessed by the viewers in the Series Premiere. Previously, Cookie tries to kill Lucious with a pillow after he confesses his crime while talking asleep. He tells his family that he isn´t dying of ALS, and has decided that his gay son Jamal (Jussie Smollett) should be his heir, thus making him Vice-Chairman of Empire Records. Lucious's ex-fiancée Anika (Grace Gealey) persuades Andre into trying a hostile takeover of Empire, while one of his thugs, Vernon (Malik Yoba), admits to Cookie that her ex-husband killed Bunkie. Later, he entangles into a fight with André, and his wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) kills him accidentally, trying to defend him, and then tells André she is pregnant. The hostile takeover eventually happens, though Cookie and Anika get into a catfight during a meeting.

Co-created, co-produced and co-written by Lee Daniels (who signed such hit movies as "Precious" and "The Butler"), "Empire" is one of the few smashing supersoaps of this decade. Initially groundbreaking for featuring a prominently black cast and an increasingly popular "anti-hero" in Henson´s Cookie, the show benefitted from the talents of Oscar-nominated actors like Henson herself ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), Howard ("Hustle & Flow"), and Gabourey Sidibe ("Precious"), who would be completely wasted in the next season), aside from other Oscar-winning guest stars like Jennifer Hudson ("Dreamgirls") and Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Jerry Maguire") and top model Naomi Campbell.

Empiezan a forcejear al borde del balcón, y Andre grita cuando entra y ve caer a una de ellas. Anteriormente, Jamal, convaleciente de una herida de bala en una silla de ruedas, decide seguir componiendo. La cantante Laura (Jamila Velazquez) cancela su boda con Hakeem por la mala reputación de Lucious. Cookie consigue impedir que Anika se suicide, y se enfurece con Lucious por intentar reanudar su relación. El agente del FBI Tariq Cousins (Morocco Omari) aparece, y la madre inestable (y presuntamente muerta) de Lucious, Leah Walker (Leslie Uggams), lo reconoce inmediatamente como el hermanastro de Lucious, revelando que comparten el mismo padre, un hombre llamado Joe Walker (Jeremy Isaiah Earl), asesinado de un tiro delante de Lucious.

Fichar a otra ganadora del Oscar como Marisa Tomei ("Mi primo Vinny"), a otra del Tony como Leslie Uggams, o a una serie de famosos en la vida real no ayudan a superar el anterior récord de audiencia o a obviar un sentido de repetición que incluye su tan cacareado "cliffhanger". Cuando un serial empieza a dar señales de agotamiento en su 2ª temporada, seguramente se deba a que se centra en lo que no debería, en lugar de permitir que los personajes evolucionen de forma natural o la trama encuentre su propio ritmo. El interés de Daniels por crear otras series similares podría tener algo que ver con ello, así como la insistencia de la cadena en sacar el máximo partido del aspecto musical de este muy americano homenaje al "hip-hop". Hasta la fecha, no ha conseguido repetir su éxito fuera de EE.UU., a pesar de una campaña publicitaria muy agresiva en Europa.

On "Empire"´s second cliffhanger, Lucious and Anika, pregnant with Hakeem´s baby, get married as a way to prevent her from declare against him. Then Rhonda corners Anika in the balcony, and Anika admits that pushed her downstairs a few months before, causing her to miscarriage her baby. They begin to struggle on the edge of the balcony, and Andre shouts when one of them falls down. Prior to this, Jamal, recovering from a bullet wound in a wheelchair, decides to make music again. Singer Laura (Jamila Velazquez) calls off her wedding to Hakeem due to Lucious´s bad reputation. Cookie manages to stop Anika from committing suicide, and gets angry with Lucious for trying to rekindle their former relationship. FBI Agent Tariq Cousins (Morocco Omari) shows up, and Lucious´s long-lost, mentally unstable mother, Leah Walker (Leslie Uggams) recognizes him immediately as Lucious's half-brother, revealing that they share the same father, a man named Joe Walker (Jeremy Isaiah Earl), shot to death in front of Lucious.

Hiring another Oscar-winner like Marisa Tomei ("My Cousin Vinny"), a Tony-winner like Leslie Uggams, or a number of real-life celebrities doesn´t help the show to surpass its previous ratings record or overcome a sense of déjà vu that includes its much-talked -about cliffhanger. When a soap begins to feel worn out in its second season, it´s probably because of a focus on the wrong things, instead of letting the characters develop organically or the plot find its own pacing. Daniels´ interest in other similar shows might have had something to do with it, as well as the network´s insistence in getting the most out of the musical side of this All-American hip-hop tribute. The series has failed to repeat its success out of US so far, despite a very heavy publicity campaign in Europe.
