1/55: "NO MORE MR. NICE GUY” (“¿EL FIN DEL GRAN HOMBRE?”) (I)

La mujer de la limpieza encuentra el cuerpo inerte de J.R. en el suelo de su oficina. Rápidamente, J.R. es trasladado al hospital en estado de gravedad. En SOUTHFORK, ELLIE pide a RAY que le ayude a reunir a la familia. LUCY aparece en la cama de su profesor GREG FORRESTER, del que averigua por fin que está casado. BOBBY Y PAM son localizados por la policía en la autopista hacia CALIFORNIA. KRISTIN acude rauda al hospital para dar su apoyo a ELLIE y JOCK, y comprobar dónde está SUE ELLEN...Y SUE ELLEN está dormida en su coche, en el aeropuerto de Dallas. Cuando despierta, con resaca, vuelve al rancho y allí, se encuentra con su hermana. KRISTIN le cuenta que alguien ha disparado contra J.R. y que, el día anterior, ella había ido a su apartamento borracha con un arma.

"No sé si te di la copa para calmarte o para ponerte fuera de combate. Dijiste algo de que DUSTY te ayudaría..." SUE ELLEN rompe a llorar y se dirige a toda prisa al hospital. La recepción no puede ser más fría:

"Tu marido está muriéndose y tú mientras de juerga por ahí" "No estaba de juerga" - asegura ella. "Entonces, ¿dónde estabas?" "SUE ELLEN estaba enferma" - afirma KRISTIN, inesperadamente cómplice. "Enferma...Quieres decir borracha. Necesitas volver al sanatorio." Poco después, JOCK también menciona a CLIFF como posible sospechoso, enfureciendo a PAM. CLIFF vuelve a su casa sin recordar dónde ha estado y, más tarde, confiesa a PAM que fue al Edificio Ewing a matar a J.R. Entretanto, J.R. sufre una extirpación de bazo para salvar la vida. Cuando vuelve en sí, acusa en silencio con la mirada a una temerosa SUE ELLEN...

The cleaning woman finds J.R. lying unconscious on his office floor. Right away, he is driven to the hospital in a critical condition. At SOUTHFORK, ELLIE asks RAY to help her to reunite the family. LUCY turns out to be in bed with her professor GREG FORRESTER, eventually knowing he is married. BOBBY and PAM are tracked down by the Police on the highway to CALIFORNIA. KRISTIN rushes into the hospital to support ELLIE and JOCK, and check out where SUE ELLEN is...But SUE ELLEN is asleep in her car, parked at the Dallas Airport. When she wakes up, with a heavy hangover, she drives back to the ranch and finds her sister there. KRISTIN tells her that J.R. has been shot and, the day before, she had been at her condo, drunk and holding a gun.

"I gave you another drink to calm you down, but you kept saying: "DUSTY would help me if he were here." SUE ELLEN starts to cry and rushes to the hospital too. The welcome is rather cold:

"Your husband may be dying and you're out gallivanting around someplace" "I wasn't gallivanting" - she assures. "Then where were you?" "SUE ELLEN was sick" - says an unexpectedly cooperative KRISTIN. "Sick. You mean drunk! You´ll have to go back to the sanitarium." Shortly after, JOCK also mentions CLIFF as a possible suspect, which gets PAM angry. CLIFF comes home without knowing where he has been and, later on, confesses PAM that he went at the Ewing Building to kill J.R. Meanwhile, J.R. has his spleen removed in order to save his life. When he comes to, silently accuses a frightened SUE ELLEN with his look...

2/56: "NO MORE MR. NICE GUY" (II)

A pesar de su mirada acusadora, J.R. confiesa que no vio a su asaltante debido a la oscuridad. Al oír la noticia por radio, GARY visita a su familia y a su hermano en el hospital, aunque VALENE afirma que J.R. se merecía algo así. Algunos sospechosos aparecen, como ALAN BEAM, que tiene coartada, y otros no, como el banquero LELAND. BOBBY convence a JOCK para que le deje ocupar la presidencia de la compañía mientras J.R. esté en el hospital.

"La EWING OIL ya me ha costado un hijo y no dejaré que BOBBY se marche de nuevo", había asegurado ELLIE a JOCK días antes. En la consulta de su psiquiatra, SUE ELLEN confiesa que salió de allí la noche del atentado. Estaba decidida a matar a J.R. con la pistola que llevaba en el bolso. MARILEE STONE pone un pleito a la EWING OIL por el suicidio de su marido SETH, miembro del cártel y víctima de J.R. La 1ª acción de BOBBY será conseguir que MARILEE se eche atrás, no sin que antes ella intente seducirle:

"Tus abogados harán exactamente lo que les digas. Si J.R. sobrevive, esta batalla será larga y muy costosa, y él pelea por el simple placer de hacerlo..." LUCY conoce una noche a MITCH COOPER, un aparcacoches que estudia Medicina y que rechaza su 1ª insinuación. CLIFF es detenido por la policía pues se encuentra una pistola en su apartamento, que NO ES la que usaron contra J.R. Éste se somete a una 2ª operación para extraerle la última bala, tras convencer de ello a SUE ELLEN. A partir del momento que sale del quirófano, SUE ELLEN se convierte en la sombra de J.R. en el hospital, sintiéndose culpable...

Despite his accusing look, J.R. reveals that he could not see his assailant because it was too dark. When he hears the news on the radio, GARY visits his family and his brother at the hospital, though VALENE assures that J.R. deserved something like this. Some suspects are tracked down, like ALAN BEAM, who has an alibi, but others not, like banker LELAND. BOBBY convinces JOCK to let him take charge of the company´s chairman as long as J.R. is in hospital.

"EWING OIL already cost me one son and I won´t let BOBBY leave again," ELLIE had told JOCK a few days before. At her therapist´s, SUE ELLEN confesses that she came out of there on the shooting´s afternoon. She was determined to kill J.R. with the gun in her purse. MARILEE STONE suits EWING OIL for her husband SETH´s suicide, being a member of the Cartel and one of J.R.'s victims. BOBBY´s first movement will be stopping MARILEE, who will even try to seduce him in the process:

"Your lawyers will do exactly what you tell them. Now, if J.R. survives, this will be a long and very costly fight. And J.R. just fights for the fun of it." LUCY meets by chance MITCH COOPER, a parking attendant who is studying Medicine and rejects her first advance. CLIFF is taken to the police station since a gun is found in his apartment, but it IS NOT the one used to shoot J.R. He undergoes a second operation to have the last bullet removed, after convincing SUE ELLEN of it. From the very moment he comes out the operating room, SUE ELLEN becomes J.R.´s shadow at hospital, guilt-ridden...

3/57: "NIGHTMARE" ("PESADILLA")

J.R. lucha por sobrellevar su parálisis, mientras BOBBY ve cómo sus esfuerzos por dirigir la EWING OIL son inútiles. J.R. se encarga de desbaratarle los planes incluso desde su cama en el hospital. SUE ELLEN se debate en sus continuas pesadillas, que le dicen que fue ella quien disparó a su esposo. Por otro lado, CLIFF es obligado a dimitir como ayudante del fiscal del distrito:

"PAM, te juro que J.R. EWING es la carga que Dios me ha enviado. Siempre que le pasa algo, acabo pagando yo el pato..." PAM recibe una oferta para volver a trabajar en la Tienda. Inesperadamente, JOCK Y ELLIE encuentran el arma usada para disparar contra su hijo en el armario de este. Las huellas dactilares señalan como culpable a un miembro de la familia...SUE ELLEN.

J.R. fights to overcome his paralysis, as BOBBY sees how his efforts to run EWING OIL have no outcomes. J.R. takes care of spoiling his plans even from his hospital bed. SUE ELLEN struggles in her recurring nightmares, which tell her that she shot her husband. On the other side, CLIFF is dismissed as D.A.´s Assistant:

"PAM, I swear to you, J.R. EWING is my personal burden from God. Everything that happens to that man, I always pay for it..." PAM gets a proposal to go work back at The Store. Unexpectedly, JOCK and ELLIE find the gun used to shoot his son in his closet. The fingerprints point at one family member as the guilty...SUE ELLEN.

4/58: "WHO DONE IT?" ("¿QUIÉN LO HIZO?")

La mujer de J.R. es detenida, fichada y encarcelada. Los Ewing se niegan a pagar la fianza, pero aún así la mujer es puesta en libertad. Se plantea un nuevo enigma: ¿Quién ha pagado la fianza? Una vez en la calle, SUE ELLEN pide a KRISTIN que le deje quedarse con ella unos días.

"Por supuesto, todo el tiempo que quieras", dice ella con una falsa sonrisa, "no seas boba. Después de todo, soy tu hermana, ¿no?" SUE ELLEN está convencida de que necesita recordar lo sucedido el día del disparo y accede a someterse a la hipnosis, por sugerencia del Dr. ELBY. Más tarde va al rancho y se encuentra con un solitario J.R. en su silla de ruedas. Cuando KRISTIN sale de la casa, SUE ELLEN desvela el nombre del culpable:

"Fuiste tú, KRISTIN, quien disparó contra J.R." Pero ella tiene su propio secreto: está embarazada: "Puedo ver los titulares: El nieto de JOCK EWING nace en la cárcel." "Aquí nadie va a ir a la cárcel...Yo me encargaré de KRISTIN..." - dice un misterioso J.R.

J.R.´s wife is arrested, recorded and jailed. The Ewings refuse to bail her out, but even so, she is released. A new enigma is set out: Who has paid her bail? Once on the street, SUE ELLEN begs KRISTIN to let her stay at her condo for a few days.

"Stay as long as you like - she says with a fake smile - "after all, what are sisters for?" SUE ELLEN is convinced that she has to remember what happened the shooting´s day and agrees to go under hypnosis, by the suggestion of Dr. ELBY. Later on, she drives to the ranch and finds a lonely J.R. in his wheelchair. When KRISTIN walks out of the house, SUE ELLEN reveals the name of the culprit:

"It was YOU, KRISTIN, who shot J.R." But she keeps her own little secret: she is pregnant. "I can see the headline now, "JOCK EWING's Grandson, jail baby!" "No one's going to jail! I'll handle KRISTIN my own way" - says J.R. mysteriously.

5/59: "TASTE OF SUCCESS" ("EL PLACER DEL ÉXITO")

KRISTIN confiesa delante de la familia y del ayudante del fiscal, que ella disparó contra J.R., al sentirse rechazada. En el aeropuerto, J.R. informa a KRISTIN que le enviará 5000 dólares mensuales hasta que nazca el niño.

"J.R., nos veremos pronto"- asegura ella, antes de marcharse. El nuevo cargo de presidente absorbe a BOBBY de tal manera que tanto PAM como J.R. se sienten afectados. La partida de KRISTIN provoca un giro en las relaciones de la pareja, que se vuelven inseparables. igual que CLIFF y DONNA, ahora unidos en la campaña de DAVE CULVER para el Senado:

"Sabes, CLIFF, hay mucho más en la vida que los EWING" - le dice ella. "Son un símbolo que todo lo malo". "También los molinos para Don Quijote..." - responde DONNA. BOBBY lucha por la compra de una refinería tras los intentos fallidos de J.R. y BOBBY. El éxito de BOBBY obliga a J.R. a ponerse en acción para recuperar la presidencia de la empresa:

"Voy a echar a BOBBY aunque sea la ruina de la EWING OIL."

KRISTIN confesses in front of the family and the D.A.´s Assistant: upon a made-up story, she shot J.R. after being rejected by him. At the airport, J.R. reports KRISTIN that he will send her 5000 dollars monthly until the baby is born.

"I´ll be seeing you again, J.R."- she promises, before leaving. BOBBY´s new chairmanship becomes so absorbing that both PAM and J.R. are affected by it. KRISTIN´s departure makes a twist in the couple´s relationship, as they get much closer, and so do CLIFF and DONNA, now working together in the Senate campaign for DAVE CULVER:

"You know, CLIFF, there is more to life than the EWINGS" - she tells him. "They're a symbol of everything that's wrong." "So were windmills to Don Quixote" - DONNA replies. BOBBY fights to buy a refinery after failed attempts from J.R. and JOCK. BOBBY´s success obliges J.R. to get into action and get the company back:

"I'll cut BOBBY out even if I have to destroy EWING OIL to do it!"

El grave conflicto surgido entre J.R. y BOBBY coloca al patriarca en una difícil situación, sin saber por cuál de sus 2 hijos tomar partido. Cuando BOBBY se niega a devolverle el puesto a J.R., este decide torpedear la aventura expansionista de su hermano. Para ello, contacta con la atractiva SALLY BULLOCK, a cuya compañía naviera BOBBY ha acudido en su último negocio. SUE ELLEN acusa a ELLIE de favorecer a su hijo menor, pero ella asegura que no dejará que BOBBY deje el rancho de nuevo. Al mismo tiempo, las relaciones de este con PAMELA empiezan a deteriorarse.

The serious conflict between J.R. and BOBBY puts the patriarch in a hard situation, not knowing which of them to take a side. Since BOBBY refuses to give the charge back to J.R., the latter decides to torpedo his brother´s expansionist venture. Therefore he contacts alluring SALLY BULLOCK, whose shipping company BOBBY had turned to for his last business deal. SUE ELLEN accuses ELLIE of favoring her youngest son, but she assures that she will not let BOBBY go away again. At the same time, his relationship with PAMELA is beginning to get damaged.

7/61: "THE FOURTH SON" ("EL CUARTO HIJO")

La pérdida de 600.000 barriles de petróleo es motivo de regocijo para J.R., mientras coloca a BOBBY en una comprometida situación. El petróleo no estaba asegurado y puede representar una gran pérdida económica para la E. OIL. Complicando más las cosas, aparece por SOUTHFORK un tal AMOS KREBBS, padre de RAY, de quien este no sabía nada desde los 3 años. AMOS será portador de sorprendentes noticias para la familia EWING: JOCK tuvo un hijo del que hasta ahora se ignoraba su existencia. El patriarca informa a sus seres más cercanos de las relaciones que sostuvo durante la Guerra con una enfermera, MARGARET. Poco después, ella daría a luz a su 4º hijo, RAY KREBBS...

The loss of 600.000 crude barrels makes J.R. rejoice, as it puts BOBBY in a compromising situation. The oil was not insured and it may represent a big economic loss for E. OIL. To make things worse, comes up at SOUTHFORK an AMOS KREBBS, RAY´s father, of whom he knew nothing since he was 3. AMOS will bring surprising news for the EWING family: JOCK had a son whose existence was unknown so far. The patriarch reports his loved ones about the WW II affair he had with a nurse called MARGARET. Later on, she gave birth his fourth son, RAY KREBBS...

8/62: "TROUBLE AT EWING 23" ("PROBLEMAS EN EL EWING 23")

Un chantajista amenaza con volar uno de los campos petrolíferos, el EWING 23, co-propiedad de CLIFF. Este hecho ofrece a J.R. la oportunidad de rehacer su prestigio en la empresa, usando una vez más a BOBBY. Mientras, el capataz RAY intenta adaptarse a su nueva identidad, pero teme perder el amor de DONNA, que se siente atraída por CLIFF. Por su parte, J.R. decide retrasar la llegada del aeroplano con los 5 millones exigidos. Cuando todo está dispuesto para realizar el intercambio, varios policías salen del aparato, para sorpresa del chantajista y de BOBBY. Como consecuencia de ello, el hombre resulta muerto, no sin antes hacer estallar las cargas explosivas que destruyen los pozos del EWING 23.

A blackmailer threats with blowing up one of the oil fields, EWING 23, co-owned by CLIFF. This fact gives J.R. the chance to renew his prestige at the company, using BOBBY once more time. Meanwhile, foreman RAY is trying to fit in his new identity but is afraid to lose DONNA´s affection, who feels attracted to CLIFF. On his own, J.R. decides to delay the arrival of the plane carrying the demanded 5 million at the field. When everything is ready to make the exchange, several policemen come out of the plane, to the blackmailer´s shock...and BOBBY´s too. Due to this, the man ends up killed, after blowing up the explosives to destroy the EWING 23 fields.

PAMELA cree que finalmente ha encontrado a su madre cuando el detective le pide que se reúna con él en HOUSTON. Todas las pistas conducen a una tal REBECCA WENTWORTH, casada con un millonario:

Pero cuando DIGGER estaba muriéndose, nos contó lo de usted y HUTCH McKINNEY. Ni sé muy bien cómo, pero de alguna manera sabía que aún estaba viva. Desde entonces he estado buscándola...Mi hermano y mi marido me dijeron que me haría más daño saber que sí había muerto. Pero la he encontrado. Está viva, y soy muy feliz. No sé expresarle lo feliz que soy..." Sin embargo, la entrevista acaba con sus ilusiones de descubrir sus orígenes: REBECCA niega en redondo ser la persona que busca...Por otro lado, LUCY convence a MITCH para que se case con ella. De vuelta en DALLAS, PAM asiste con la familia a una fiesta para recaudar fondos a favor del hijastro de DONNA:

"DAVE CULVER es el político más liberal que puede permitirse el Estado de Tejas" - observa SUE ELLEN: "El dinero de los EWING no suele ir en esa dirección..." "Nuestro dinero siempre va en la dirección del poder" - asegura un sonriente J.R. Más tarde, PAM recibe la visita de REBECCA, que confiesa ser su verdadera madre y sin embargo, se niega a aceptarles en público, temerosa de perder a su segunda familia: nunca llegó a divorciarse de DIGGER:

"Hace muchos años, cerré una puerta en mi mente. Sellé una parte de mi vida. Y pensé que seguiría siempre sellada. He llevado una vida cómoda, felizmente casada con un hombre adorable. Entonces llamaste tú, y se hizo una grieta en aquella puerta que creía haber sellado con tanta fuerza. Nos conocimos. Y la grieta se volvió aún más grande. Y luego, os vi a ti y a tu hermano. A los dos juntos. Y no pude evitar que todos aquellos secretos, aquel lugar sellado, se abriera de par en par. Y el pasado me invadió rápidamente. DIGGER BARNES. HUTCH McKINNEY. Y el dolor horrible de tener que abandonar a mi propia carne y sangre...Tenía miedo de que, si DIGGER me encontraba, me arrastraría de nuevo a aquella terrible vida. Vi una oportunidad de ser feliz, y la acepté. No me culpes por eso." Entonces, PAMELA comprende que su madre se siente incapaz de volver a verla a ella o a CLIFF. "Intenta entenderlo. Perder a una familia en la vida es horrible. Perder a una segunda..." "Lo siento mucho" - le dice una descorazonada PAM.

PAMELA thinks she finally found her mother when the detective asks her to join him at HOUSTON. All the clues lead to a woman called REBECCA WENTWORTH, married to a millionaire:

"I know who you are" - PAM tells her when she meets her. "When I was a child, I used to wonder what you were like. When Digger told us that you died, I could never really accept that. But when Digger was dying and told us about you and Hutch McKinney, I don’t exactly know why, but somehow I knew that you were still alive. And I’ve been searching for you since that day. My brother and my husband said that I’d just be more hurt when I found out that you were really dead. But I found you. You’re alive. And I’m so happy. I don’t know how to tell you how happy I am..." However, the meeting with her alleged mother ends with her hopes of finding her true origins: REBECCA absolutely denies to be the person she is looking for...On the other side, LUCY persuades MITCH to marry her. Back in DALLAS, PAM attends a fund-raising party for DONNA´s stepson with the EWINGS:

"DAVE CULVER is about as liberal a politician as the state of Texas allows" - SUE ELLEN remarks. "EWING money usually never flows in that direction." "Ewing money always flows in the direction of power" - says J.R. all smiles. Later PAM receives REBECCA´s visit, who confesses to being her real mother but refuses to publicly accept them, afraid of losing a second family again: she never got divorced from DIGGER:

"Years ago, I closed a door in my mind. I sealed off a part of my life. And I thought it would be sealed off forever. I led a comfortable life, happily married to a man that I adore. Then you phoned, making a crack in that seal I thought was so strong. We met. And the crack became larger. And then I saw you and your brother. Both of you together. And I couldn’t help that the whole thing, the whole secret, sealed place broke open. And the past came rushing back. DIGGER BARNES. HUTCH McKINNEY. And the awful, awful pain of having to abandon my own flesh and blood. I was afraid that if I tried, he’d find me, and drag me back to that awful life. I saw a chance for happiness, and I took it. Don’t blame me for that." Then PAMELA realizes her mother is incapable to see her or CLIFF again. "Try to understand. To lose one family in a lifetime is horrible. To lose a second…" "I’m sorry" - says a heartbroken PAM.

J.R. anima a su padre a llevar a cabo un negocio con el fin de acabar provocando un conflicto con BOBBY:

"Ese dinero pertenece a la EWING OIL" - dice él. "¿Y de quién diablos crees que es la Ewing Oil? ¡Es mía! Y no lo olvides, chico." "Tú me diste la empresa por escrito para que la dirigiera, y eso te obliga a consultarme antes de hacer nada relacionado con ella." "¡Obligado! - repite un furioso JOCK. "¿Quieres decir que estoy obligado a preguntarte cómo gastar mi propio dinero? Como a mí se me antoje..." "Así es. Me diste poderes para dirigir la empresa y pienso hacerlo, maldita sea." "Así que te di poderes, ¿eh? Déjame decirte una cosa, chico: Si te di el poder, no tienes nada. Nadie te da el poder. El verdadero poder es algo que coge uno mismo." BOBBY quiere demostrarle a PAM que para él, ella es lo más importante, aunque la responsabilidad de la compañía pese negativamente. SUE ELLEN sabe que J.R. acabará recuperando su cargo, y así se lo dice a BOBBY:

"No es más que un juego, BOBBY. Tienes que amarlo para jugarlo bien. No olvides con quién llevo diez años casada. J.R. comprende lo que implica el poder, controla y manipula, y consigue que la gente le tenga miedo. Ha nacido para luchar, es el mejor" - a lo que él responde: "¿Y yo?" "Tú eres su hermano pequeño..." LUCY anuncia su próxima boda con MITCH, y PAM busca consuelo en otro hombre: ALEX WARD, un compañero de trabajo que no ha pasado por alto la crisis del matrimonio...

J.R. encourages his father to make a deal in order to cause trouble to BOBBY:

"That money belongs to EWING OIL!" - he says. "And who in the hell do you think Ewing Oil is? It's me! Ewing Oil belongs to me...and don't you forget it, boy!" "You gave me Ewing Oil to run, in writing! And that makes you obliged to consult me before you do anything that concerns that company!" "Obliged! You telling me that I'm obliged to ask you how to spend my own money? Any damn way I see fit?" "That's right! You gave me the power to run that company, and dammit, I intend to run it!" "So I gave you power, huh? Well, let me tell you somethin' boy, if I did give you power, you've got nothin'! Nobody gives you power. Real power is something you take!"

"If I did give you power, you´ve got nothing!" - JOCK roars to BOBBY - "Real power is something you take!!" Meanwhile, PAMELA is convinced that she has become secondary in her husband´s life. BOBBY wants to show him that she is the main thing to him, though the responsibility for the company weighs negatively. SUE ELLEN knows that J.R. will eventually get his former position back, and so she says to BOBBY:

"It's all a game, BOBBY. You have to love it to play it well. Don't forget who I've been married to for the last ten years. He understands power, he controls and manipulates, he makes people afraid. He's a natural-born fighter, the best" - to which he answers: "And me?" "You are J.R.'s little brother..." LUCY announces her upcoming wedding with MITCH, and PAM seeks comfort in another man: ALEX WARD, a work collaborator who has noticed the trouble in paradise...

La madre y la hermana de MITCH llegan a SOUTHFORK para asistir a la boda de LUCY. Sorprendentemente, J.R. se toma un gran interés por ellas y por el futuro de su sobrina. Esto hace que en teoría parezca dejar de lado las intrigas contra BOBBY en la E.OIL. SUE ELLEN adivina los motivos: lo que realmente le interesa a J.R. es la hermana del novio, AFTON. Inesperadamente, la situación toma un giro inesperado: MITCH, ofendido porque los EWING parecen haber planeado su futuro, decide echarse atrás y anular la boda...

MITCH´s mother and sister arrive at SOUTHFORK for LUCY´s wedding. Surprisingly, J.R. seems to be greatly interested in them and her niece´s future. This makes him look as if he theoretically were putting aside the schemes against BOBBY at E. OIL. SUE ELLEN guesses the reasons: what he really wants is the groom´s sister, AFTON. In the meantime, ALEX keeps his interest in PAM. All of sudden, the situation takes an unexpected twist: Offended by the EWINGS planning his future, MITCH decides to back up and cancel the wedding...

Resueltas las diferencias que ponían en peligro la relación entre MITCH y LUCY, se celebra por fin la boda. El acontecimiento causa gran expectación, mayor aún de lo que la familia esperaba. SUE ELLEN descubre que J.R. se muestra excesivamente amable con AFTON y busca la compañía de un amigo de la universidad, CLINT OGDEN. DONNA intenta un cierto acercamiento a RAY, pero sin éxito. Por su parte, J.R. no se siente satisfecho tal como van las cosas en la EWING OIL, ya que BOBBY ha sorteado su último obstáculo...antes de devolverle el puesto a su hermano:

"Quería dirigir esta empresa cada vez mejor, papá. Al cabo de un tiempo, los negocios se volvieron más importantes que las personas. Le pedía prestado dinero a uno para pagar al otro, siempre fingiendo que lo hacía por el mejor motivo. Y luego me di cuenta de que sólo se puede uno mentir a si mismo durante un tiempo, que podía fingir que lo que fuera mejor para la EWING OIL sería lo correcto, pero no lo es. No era correcto para mí." Al mismo tiempo, un problema amenaza el matrimonio de JOCK y ELLIE: GARY anuncia que, ahora que RAY es un EWING, ya no se siente obligado a volver algún día a SOUTHFORK:

"He perdido para siempre a mi hijo GARY" - le dice una resentida ELLIE a su marido. "Ahora que tu RAY KREBBS es el capataz de SOUTHFORK, GARY nunca regresará. No queda lugar para él. Y RAY, que no tiene una sola gota de sangre SOUTHWORTH, se hace cargo del rancho de mi padre. Sabes lo mucho que significaba para mí que GARY volviera. Nunca te perdonaré lo que le has hecho a él...y a mí. Tú y RAY KREBBS."

Once MITCH and LUCY work out their differences, the wedding takes place at last. The event raises a huge expectation, even bigger than expected.

SUE ELLEN discovers that J.R. has been overly kind to AFTON and seeks for the company of a former college boyfriend, CLINT OGDEN. DONNA tries to get closer to RAY, but unsuccessfully. At the same time, J.R. is not satisfied with the way things are going at EWING OIL, since BOBBY has avoided his last obstacle...before to give him back the charge:

"I wanted to run this company on the up and up, Daddy. Only after a while, the deals became more important than the people. I was borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, all the time pretending it was for the right reasons. And then I realized, after a while, that you can only lie to yourself just so long...that I could pretend that whatever was good for EWING OIL was all right, but it's not. It's not all right for me." Another problem seems a menace to JOCK and ELLIE´s marriage: GARY tells them that, now that RAY is a EWING, he does not have to come back to SOUTHFORK anymore:

"My son GARY. I've lost him forever" - a resentful ELLIE says to her husband. "Now that your RAY KREBBS is running SOUTHFORK, GARY will never be back. There's no place left for him. And now RAY, who hasn't one drop of SOUTHWORTH blood in him, is running my daddy's ranch. You know how much GARY's coming back meant to me. I'll never forgive you for what you've done to him... and to me. You and RAY KREBBS."

"En realidad no sé cómo te funciona el cerebro..." - comenta J.R. "No como el tuyo" - contesta rotundo BOBBY. A continuación, J.R. se propone dar una imagen inmejorable de hombre de negocios. Para ello, contrata a una relaciones públicas de N.Y., LESLIE STEWART. En SOUTHFORK, las cosas no van muy bien: ELLIE está disgustada con JOCK por lo ocurrido con GARY. PAM descubre que su cuñada se ve en secreto con CLINT OGDEN. Durante una sesión con el Dr. ELBY, SUE ELLEN le habla de la "enfermedad EWING":

"No la sufres hasta que te has enamorado de uno de ellos. Primero te cubren de atenciones, afecto y todas las posesiones materiales que se pueden desear. Y luego, sin ninguna razón, se alejan de ti. Entonces compites con lo único que conocen y aman: el poder, cada vez mayor." En SOUTHFORK ella continúa con la misma canción, esta vez aconsejando a PAM:

"Las mujeres EWING deben vivir su propia vida". Mientras, J.R. planea reanudar las relaciones comerciales con el cártel, a cualquier precio. Su objetivo: recuperar los campos de ASIA...

J.R. and BOBBY sign up the documents returning the company chairmanship to J.R.:

"Actually, I don´t know how your brain works", comments J.R. "Different from yours", a blunt BOBBY answers. Right away, J.R. intends to offer his best look as a businessman. Therefore, he hires a female P.R. from N.Y., LESLIE STEWART. At SOUTHFORK, things are not going too good: ELLIE is angry with JOCK for what happened with GARY. PAM discovers that her sister-in-law is secretly dating CLINT OGDEN. During a session with Dr. ELBY, SUE ELLEN talks to him about the "EWING disease":

"Well, you don't catch it until you fall in love with one of them. First, they lavish you with attention, affection, and every material possession you could ever hope to have. And then, for no reason at all, they just walk away from you. And then you compete with the only thing they know and love: power, and more power." Once at SOUTHFORK, she keeps playing the same song, this time to PAM:

"If you are married to a EWING, you´ve gotta live your own life". Meanwhile, J.R. plans to resume the business deals with the Cartel at any price. His objective: to get back the ASIAN fields...

J.R. intenta recuperar su poder aunque tenga que violar las leyes. Su ambición es tanta que planea derrocar al gobierno que en el pasado le confiscó los campos del Sudeste Asiático. Aún así, es consciente de que puede acabar en prisión. PAM acepta un trabajo en la Costa del Golfo, aún sabiendo que tendrá a ALEX pendiente de ella...SUE ELLEN empieza a sospechar que J.R. ha contratado de nuevo a un detective para que siga sus pasos....

J.R. is trying to regain his power even if he has to violate the laws. His greed is so high that he is planning to bring down the government that once nationalized his fields in South East Asia. Even so, he is aware that he might end up in prison. PAM takes a job at the Gulf Coast, knowing that ALEX will be wooing her...SUE ELLEN is beginning to suspect that J.R. has hired a detective to follow her again...

Sin embargo, no puede evitar que BOBBY se convierta en el nuevo candidato para el Senado, a petición de DONNA. Cuando PAM vuelve al rancho, surgen nuevas disputas con BOBBY: los motivos, la nueva ocupación de BOBBY y la presencia de ALEX en el Golfo. A pesar de ello, PAM le fue fiel a BOBBY, y no duda en recordarle que él también salió el año anterior con JENNA...SUE ELLEN se pone en contacto con su abogado e inicia una búsqueda que la llevará hasta alguien al que creía muerto...

J.R divides his time between his P.R. and his usual battle against CLIFF. Now he is trying to sabotage his political career, but instead, he makes him break up with DONNA. However, he cannot help BOBBY becoming the new candidate for Senate, by request of DONNA. When PAM returns home, there are new arguments with BOBBY: the reasons, BOBBY´s new job and ALEX´s presence at the Gulf. In spite of it, PAM was faithful to BOBBY, and she does not hesitate to remind him that he was also dating JENNA the previous year...SUE ELLEN contacts her lawyer and starts a quest leading to someone she presumed was dead.

En un intento de complacer a su padre, J.R. consigue recuperar los pozos de ASIA a través de una contrarrevolución. Sin embargo, JOCK prepara su propia sorpresa para la familia, mientras DONNA y RAY planean casarse. A su vez, LUCY persigue un trabajo de modelo que la ayudará a resolver sus problemas con MITCH. Por otro lado, DUSTY y su padre CLAYTON persuaden a SUE ELLEN para que no vuelva a visitarles, pues la constante presencia de la mujer le recuerda "el único problema que no ha podido superar":

"Si me quieres de verdad, SUE ELLEN, entonces te marcharás..." "Nunca sabrás lo mucho que te quiero..." - le responde mientras se marcha llorando.

SUE ELLEN is amazed to discover that her former lover DUSTY FARLOW could survive the plane accident...but he got paralyzed and impotent, and does not want to see her again. Trying to please his father, J.R. gets back the ASIAN fields thru a counter-revolution. However, JOCK has a surprise of his own for the family, while DONNA and RAY are planning to marry. Meanwhile, LUCY gets a job as a model to help her work out her problems with MITCH. On the other side, DUSTY and his father CLAYTON talk out SUE ELLEN to give up visiting them, since the woman´s constant presence reminds DUSTY "the only flaw he couldn´t overcome":

"If you really love me, SUE ELLEN, then you´ll go away..." " You´ll never know how much I love you...- she replies in tears.

"La mujer debe estar en el dormitorio. Desde luego no en la oficina" - le dice JOCK a J.R. sin saber que ELLIE le está escuchando. "Muy bonito, JOCK" - responde, ofendida: "Crees que el lugar de la mujer está dos pasos detrás del hombre, excepto cuando se pasa por un campo de minas. Tú y J.R. sois expertos en estropearlo todo, JOCK. Todo lo que tocáis: relaciones, la vida de las personas..." "Mamá, creo que estás exagerando un poco" - interviene J.R. "¿De verdad? J.R., tú y tu padre usáis a las personas y luego os prescindís de ellas, incluso cuando son miembros de vuestra familia. Me repugnáis."

Mientras, LUCY se siente muy feliz al ganar el título de Miss Young Dallas, lo que no hace más que contribuir a que MITCH vuelva a sentirse inferior. BOBBY ofrece a su cuñado el puesto de asesor legal en el Senado, aunque cada día siente más celos de ALEX. Para zanjar de una vez la cuestión, el joven va a ver a este y le prohibe que siga viendo a su esposa. Un comentario de su rival le hace comprender que últimamente ha dedicado demasiado tiempo al trabajo. Esa noche, antes de la cena, ELLIE anuncia a todos que su grupo ecologista ha detenido la explotación de la zona de Takapa.

"Pero, ¿qué dices?" , exclama JOCK, "¡YO soy Takapa!"

When she weds RAY, DONNA CULVER becomes the new Mrs. EWING. The couple´s joy for their marriage is not transmitted to the rest of the family...since the cold war between JOCK and ELLIE is getting worse:

"A woman's place is in the bedroom. Sure as hell not in the boardroom"- JOCK tells J.R. without knowing that MISS ELLIE has heard him. "Very nice, JOCK" - she says, offended: "You believe that the woman's place is two steps behind the man. Except when walking through a minefield. You and J.R. should know all about spoilers, JOCK. Everything you touch you spoil: relationships, people's lives..." "Well, Mama, I think you're exaggerating a little bit"- J.R. complains. "Am I? J.R., you and your daddy use people up and then throw them away. Even members of your own family. You disgust me!"

LUCY is very happy to win the Miss Young Dallas title, thus making MITCH feel inferior again. BOBBY offers his brother-in-law the charge of legal advisor at the Senate, though he is more and more jealous of ALEX. In order to solve the conflict once and for all, he calls on him and forbids him to keep dating his wife. A comment from his rival makes him understand that he has been devoting too much time to his job. That evening, right before the dinner, ELLIE announces everybody that her environmental group has stopped the development of the Takapa area.

"You what?"- claims JOCK. "I am Takapa!"

BOBBY se encuentra en una difícil situación entre JOCK y ELLIE, al ocupar un puesto en el comité del Senado que decide el futuro de TAKAPA. Esta es la zona pantanosa que pretende urbanizar JOCK:

"Podrían acabar divorciándose" - confía J.R. a su hermano. "Y, si eso ocurre, adiós a la EWING OIL". "Hablamos de mamá y papá. ¿Estamos discutiendo de la familia o de la empresa?" - pregunta BOBBY. "Francamente, nunca he podido separarlas." PAM renueva la amistad que tenía con su madre REBECCA, quien a su vez desea reconciliarse con CLIFF. SUE ELLEN se ve cada día más necesitada de CLINT y el matrimonio de MITCH y LUCY se tambalea, a causa del empleo de ella. Ajena a esto, ELLIE se muestra resentida con DONNA porque no le informó de las actividades de JOCK, a pesar de que esta lo supo a través de RAY. El semblante de J.R. cambia por completo cuando LESLIE le sugiere que estaría dispuesta a casarse con él si se divorciara de SUE ELLEN...

"Te quiero a ti. Quiero tenerlo todo", asegura LESLIE, "ahora depende de ti, J.R."

BOBBY finds himself in a difficult situation torn between JOCK and ELLIE, as he belongs to the Senate Committee deciding the future of TAKAPA. This is the swamp area that JOCK is planning to develop:

"It could end in divorce" - J.R. confides to his brother. "And if that happens, goodbye EWING OIL." "We are talking about Mama and Daddy. Now, you are discussing family or Ewing Oil?" - BOBBY asks. "Frankly, I could never separate that." PAM starts a new relationship with her mother REBECCA, who wants to reconcile with CLIFF as well. SUE ELLEN is more and more needy of CLINT and MITCH and LUCY´s marriage is endangered due to her job. Unaware of this, ELLIE feels resented with DONNA because she did not tell her about JOCK´s activities, though she knew it thru RAY. J.R.´s face changes its expression completely when LESLIE suggests him that she would be willing to marry him if he divorced SUE ELLEN...

"I want you. I want to have it all" - assures LESLIE - "it´s up to you now, J.R."

Aumenta la discordia en el clan EWING, cuando JOCK anuncia que venderá la compañía si finalmente ELLIE decide divorciarse de él. BOBBY se encuentra entre dos fuegos, cuando la familia se entera de que es uno de los miembros del Comité que estudia el Proyecto Takapa. REBECCA visita a su hijo con nombre falso y descubre que PAM tenía razón: CLIFF nunca la perdonará por haberles abandonado. J.R. no hace nada para reconciliar a sus padres, sino que, dando muestras de su ambición, inicia los trámites para vender la EWING OIL a otra empresa...

New disagreements arise among the EWING clan when JOCK tells he will sell out the company if ELLIE decides to divorce him. BOBBY feels divided again when the family learns that he is one of the members of the Committee studying the Takapa Project. REBECCA visits her son with a fake name and finds that PAM was right: CLIFF will never forgive her for abandoning them. At the same time, LUCY is unconsciously causing her marriage´s wreck. J.R. does nothing to make his parents reconcile, otherwise, he begins to scheme to sell EWING OIL to another company, proving how greedy he can be.

Los problemas de la EWING OIL obligan a J.R. a tomar una decisión drástica: llevar a cabo la venta de la compañía a JEREMY WENDELL, de la WESTSTAR OIL. ELLIE le dice a DONNA:

"Quizá debí haberte advertido sobre el matrimonio con un EWING. Más tarde o más temprano, descubres que tu relación se vuelve algo secundario, frente a la gran necesidad que sienten de probarse a sí mismos." La aparición del ex marido de LESLIE pone al descubierto la estrategia de la mujer para conseguir lo que desea, no sólo de J.R. sino también de otros hombres. CLIFF descubre por PAM que su madre sigue viva y se encuentra en DALLAS. DONNA y RAY intentan por todos los medios reconciliar a JOCK y ELLIE, pero acaban descubriendo que entre el matrimonio hay otros motivos de discordia, además de TAKAPA. RAY decide renunciar a su parte de la fortuna EWING y marcharse del rancho, si eso evitará su ruptura...ELLIE se da cuenta de que culpó a RAY y JOCK de la decisión que GARY tomó en la boda de LUCY, respecto a quedarse en CALIFORNIA.

"GARY no volverá, y es porque no se siente a gusto aquí", concluye ELLIE entre lágrimas, "RAY, tú sí que eres un EWING..."

Due to EWING OIL troubles, J.R. has to make a drastic decision: selling the company to JEREMY WENDELL, from WESTSTAR OIL. MISS ELLIE says to DONNA:

"Maybe I should have warned you. About marriage to a EWING. Sooner or later you find out that your marriage takes a back seat to their great need to prove themselves." The appearance of LESLIE´s ex-husband exposes the woman´s strategy to get what she wants, not only from J.R. but also from other men. CLIFF is told by PAM that their mother is living in DALLAS. DONNA and RAY try their best to reconcile JOCK and ELLIE, but they end up knowing other reasons for the couple to fight aside from TAKAPA. RAY decides to give away his share of the EWING fortune and leave the ranch if that can help them from breaking up... ELLIE realizes then that she blamed RAY and JOCK for GARY deciding about staying in CALIFORNIA at LUCY´s wedding.

"GARY doesn´t want to come back because he doesn´t feel well here - concludes ELLIE in tears, You are a EWING, RAY..."

La esperada reconciliación de JOCK y ELLIE les lleva a una 2ª luna de miel en Europa, por lo que nadie desea mencionar la venta de la EWING OIL. J.R. se encuentra amenazado, sin embargo: la WESTSTAR OIL, a través de JEREMY, busca la revancha por la decisión de J.R. DONNA le advierte que no inmiscuya a su marido en los asuntos EWING. La sitúación empeora con la manipulación de la que es objeto J.R. por parte de LESLIE. Una noche, una llamada de CALIFORNIA altera la calma momentánea que disfrutan J.R. y SUE ELLEN...

"Es KRISTIN", anuncia ella con una mirada gélida, "Tienes otro hijo, J.R."

JOCK and ELLIE´s much-desired reconciliation leads to a second honeymoon in Europe, so nobody wants to mention the selling of EWING OIL. J.R. feels menaced though: WESTSTAR OIL, through Chairman JEREMY, seeks revenge for J.R.´s back-up. DONNA warns J.R. not to involve her husband in the EWING business. The situation gets worse with J.R. being manipulated by LESLIE. She is congratulated by her ex-husband. One night, a phone call from CALIFORNIA alters the momentary calm enjoyed by J.R. and SUE ELLEN...

"It´s KRISTIN" - she announces with an icy look - "You have another son, J.R."

El retorno de KRISTIN, que ha sido madre de un niño, provoca un giro en los acontecimientos. SUE ELLEN vuelve a encontrarse con DUSTY, que parece haberse recuperado parcialmente de su parálisis. Acuerdan unir sus vidas de nuevo y esta vez para siempre. LUCY abandona el apartamento cansada de discutir con MITCH. CLIFF utiliza la ayuda de la WESTSTAR OIL para que J.R. sea investigado por el Senado. Al mismo tiempo, una entrevista con REBECCA logra reconciliarle con su madre. KRISTIN chantajea a JORDAN LEE, haciéndole creer que es el padre de su hijo.

"Yo en tu lugar me marcharía de DALLAS antes de que te encuentres con J.R." "Tienes razón, JORDAN...Ya lo he pensado."

KRISTIN´s return, after giving birth to a baby, causes a twist in the events. SUE ELLEN meets DUSTY again, who seems to be partially recovered from his paralysis. They agree to get back together and this time forever. LUCY leaves the condo tired of arguing with MITCH. CLIFF uses the help of WESTSTAR OIL to have J.R. investigated by the Senate. At the same time, an interview with REBECCA makes CLIFF reconcile with his mother. KRISTIN blackmails JORDAN LEE, making him believe that he is the baby´s father.

"If I were you, I´d get off DALLAS before you meet J.R." "You´re right, JORDAN...I had already thought that."

J.R. debe enfrentarse a un cúmulo de problemas: por un lado, está en peligro de perder la EWING OIL a causa de su participación en el asunto asiático, por otro, planea divorciarse de SUE ELLEN y conseguir la custodia de JOHN ROSS. La llegada de KRISTIN empeora la situación, pues viene con ideas concretas:

"Quiero más. Tengo que costearme unos hábitos que he adquirido en California..." Apoyada moralmente por DUSTY y su padre CLAYTON, SUE ELLEN acude a SOUTHFORK en busca de JOHN ROSS. Pero J.R. le impide llevárselo y ordena que la mantengan alejada de allí. Cuando PAM la defiende, un ofensivo J.R. asegura:

"No te interpongas en mi camino o te destruiré. A ti y a todo el que intente separarme de mi hijo..." En WASHINGTON, DONNA descubre que RAY ha sacado 3 millones de dólares de su cuenta común. Pero ignora que RAY se ha asociado con PUNK ANDERSON en un negocio y necesitaba tomar una decisión rápida.

"Creo que es hora de volver a DALLAS...", anuncia DONNA. CLIFF es drogado por AFTON para que J.R. y el capitán McSween fotografíen los documentos presentados ante el Comité...El día de la audiencia, declaran en contra de J.R., MARILEE STONE, JORDAN LEE, CLAUDE BROWN, su contacto en Asia, y LESLIE STEWART. LESLIE presenta una cinta en la que J.R. afirma haber iniciado la contrarrevolución. Pero J.R. le da la vuelta a la situación y aparece el Gobernador del país en cuestión, demostrando que el dinero se empleó de forma humanitaria. Además, J.R. asegura que mintió para ganarse la confianza de LESLIE...

El Comité desaconseja un juicio contra la E. OIL y libera a J.R. de toda sospecha. Pero CLIFF teme que BOBBY le pasara la información confidencial y concierta una cita con su cuñado. SUE ELLEN pide a PAM que la ayude a sacar al niño de SOUTHFORK. Cuando J.R. se entera, llama a su amigo policía y le pide que localice a PAM:

"Si la encuentras, avísame: yo me encargaré de ella..." LESLIE acaba haciendo el amor con J.R. pero entra a trabajar como relaciones públicas de JEREMY en la WESTSTAR. Cuando CLIFF llega al rancho esa noche, descubre un cadáver de una mujer en la piscina.

"¡Está muerta!, exclama ante J.R. al verlo arriba, junto a la baranda rota, “¡Maldito bastardo!"

J.R. must face a number of problems: on one side, he is in danger of losing EWING OIL because of his participation in the Asian affaire; also, he plans to divorce from SUE ELLEN and get the custody of JOHN ROSS. KRISTIN´s appearance makes things worse since she is coming with concrete ideas:

"I want more. I have to pay for some habits I´ve acquired in California..." Morally supported by DUSTY and his father CLAYTON, SUE ELLEN goes to SOUTHFORK seeking for JOHN ROSS. But J.R. stops her from leaving him and he orders to keep her away from there. When PAM defends her, an offensive J.R. assures::

"Keep out of my way, PAMELA, or I'll destroy you! I'll destroy anybody who tries to take my boy away from me!" At WASHINGTON, DONNA learns that RAY has taken 3 million dollars from their common account. But she ignores that RAY is associated with PUNK ANDERSON for a business deal and he needed to make a quick choice.

"I think it´s time to get back to DALLAS...", DONNA announces. CLIFF is drugged by AFTON for J.R. and Captain McSween to take pictures of the documents delivered to the Committee...The hearing´s day, declaring against J.R. are MARILEE STONE, JORDAN LEE, CLAUDE BROWN, his Asian connection, and LESLIE STEWART. LESLIE presents a tape in which J.R. assures to have started the counter-revolution. But J.R. turns the situation to reverse and is called the Government of that certain country, proving that money was employed in a humanitarian way. Besides, J.R. assures that he lied so he could win LESLIE´s confidence...

The Committee advises against judging E.OIL and sets J.R. free of every suspect. But CLIFF is afraid that BOBBY might pass the top-secret dossier to him and makes an appointment with his brother-in-law. SUE ELLEN begs PAM to help her to take her baby out of SOUTHFORK. When J.R. knows, he calls his cop friend and asks him to track down PAM: "If you find her, tell me: I´ll take care of her..." LESLIE eventually makes love with J.R. but she is hired by JEREMY at WESTSTAR as a P.R. When CLIFF comes to the ranch that night, he finds out a woman´s corpse in the pool.

"She´s dead!" - he claims before J.R. to see him up there, behind the broken baranda - "You bastard!"
