KEN KERCHEVAL

INTERPRETAR EL PAPEL DE CLIFF BARNES, el mayor rival de J. R., no ofreció a KEN KERCHEVAL muchas oportunidades de demostrar su talento como cantante, pero fue así como se inició en el mundo del espectáculo. Nació el 15 de junio de 1935 en WOLCOTTVILLE, Indiana; se trasladó a NUEVA YORK y estudió en la distinguida Neighborhood Playhouse.

Playing CLIFF BARNES, J.R.´s archrival, offered no opportunity to KEN to showcase his talent as a singer, but that was the way he started off in show business. Born on June 15, 1935, in WOLCOTTVILLE, Indiana; he moved to NEW YORK and studied at distinguished Neighborhood Playhouse.

Pronto obtuvo papeles destacados en musicales de BROADWAY, como EL VIOLINISTA EN EL TEJADO y CABARET. A partir de entonces, también interpretó algunos papeles dramáticos, tanto en la escena como en el cine. Asimismo, intervino en episodios sueltos de populares televisivas, como SEARCH FOR TOMORROW, LOS DEFENSORES, KOJAK y, por fin, DALLAS:

“Leí el guión del programa-piloto a bordo de un avión, y permanecí sentado pensando en él, y me dije a mí mismo: No hay un solo personaje que se pueda salvar excepto CLIFF. Era el único que tenía sentido de la moralidad.”

He soon got big roles in BROADWAY musicals, like THE FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and CABARET. From then on, he also performed some dramatic parts, as well on stage as in movies. Likewise he gueststarred on single episodes of popular TV shows, like SEARCH FOR TOMORROW, THE DEFENDERS, KOJAK and, finally, DALLAS:

“I read the pilot series scripts on an airplane and sat there thinking about them, and said to myself: There´s not one redeemable character in this show except CLIFF. He is the only one with a sense of morality.”

En su tiempo libre, KERCHEVAL se dedicaba con avidez a coleccionar cerámica, pinturas de artistas americanos de los años 30 y autos Packard. En sus últimos años, superó un cáncer de pulmón, fue padre de un cuarto hijo y participó en la primera secuela de DALLAS: EL REGRESO DE J.R., y en la continuación producida por TNT. El actor falleció el 21 de abril de 2019.

“Si CLIFF era algo, era un personaje clásico: siempre se recuperaba, se quitaba el polvo del traje y volvía a la carga. Eso no era característico del perdedor. De haberlo sido CLIFF, habría desaparecido de la serie.”

In his free time KERCHEVAL was devoted to collect ceramics, 30´s American paintings and Packard cars. In the recent years he had overcome a lung cancer, had been father of a fourth child and co-starred in the first sequel to DALLAS: J.R. RETURNS, and the TNT continuation. The actor passed away on April 21, 2019.

“If CLIFF was something, that was a classic character: he always would dust himself off and pick himself up and start all over again. That´s uncharacteristic of a loser. If he were so, he´d have disappeared of the show.”
