91 - denial

January 15, 1982: Miss Ellie refused to accept her husband Jock´s death in a helicopter accident in South America, in spite of what that might imply: the postponement of the reading of his will, and maybe, the bankruptcy of Ewing Oil. This was the first "Dallas" episode after its patriarch´s death and the tribute to Jim Davis rendered the previous week. Suddenly, the void left by the main masculine figure of the series after J.R. and Bobby was felt in the storylines and most characters began to do out-of-character things: J.R. neglected his company, Sue Ellen settled down back in Dallas and tried to fill her single life with former friends, unsuccessfully; Ray began to drink too much and hang out with a certain blond, and Lucy seemed to think that she had a future as a model (!!!). In the last scene, Barbara Bel Geddes stole the show (again) with a heartfelt performance. That season established her as the soul of "Dallas" and the family´s driving force for almost ten plus years...and even today, in TNT´s "Dallas": Miss Ellie gave half the ranch to her grandson John Ross.

7 de octubre de 1984 (en Cataluña): Ellie se negaba a aceptar la muerte de su marido Jock en un accidente de helicóptero en Sudamérica, a pesar de lo que podía conllevar: el aplazamiento de la lectura de su testamento y, tal vez, la ruina de la Ewing Oil. Este fue el primer episodio de "Dallas" después de la muerte del patriarca y el tributo que se rindió a Jim Davis la semana anterior. De repente, el vacío ocupado por la principal figura masculina de la serie tras J.R. y Bobby se hizo sentir en los argumentos y la mayoría de personajes empezaron a hacer cosas impropias de ellos: J.R. descuidaba su empresa, Sue Ellen volvía a Dallas e intentaba llenar su vida de soltera con sus antiguos amigos, sin ningún éxito; Ray se daba a la bebida y era visto con cierta rubia...y Lucy pensaba que tenía futuro como modelo (!!). En la última escena, Barbara Bel Geddes robaba el protagonismo (de nuevo) con una sentida interpretación. Esa temporada la convirtió en el alma de "Dallas" y la fuerza que movió a la familia durante casi diez años más...e incluso hoy, en la nueva serie: Ellie dejaba en herencia a su nieto John Ross la mitad del rancho.
