139 - the oil barons´ ball

November 18, 1983: The Ewings attended the series´ second (and probably the best of all) Barons´ Ball. Prior to that, Sue Ellen, who had decided to have a life apart from J.R. but inside Southfork, through moving to another bedroom, had a sudden, strong desire for her husband´s sex abilities after having a long, sweaty walk down a park crowded with loving couples and half-naked sportsmen. J.R. thought their separation was over but he was wrong: she was using him just as a sort of "stud service", as he defined (see below video)! Also in this episode, Ray was released from jail after the judge annulated his two-year sentence for the mercy killing of his COUSIN (not nephew) Mickey Trotter. The next episode, one of the first things Ray did was getting entangled in another big battle at the Ball, which made the writers seemed rather ingenuous and incoherent...At the Ball, Pam discovered that now, Jenna resembled powerfully Elvis Presley´s "widow", Cliff re-told (conveniently for the show) the Bobby-Jenna story so all viewers could understand the next five seasons, Katherine hissed and repressed her wrath when learnt there was a Jenna, and Peter Richards, Sue Ellen´s new fan, looked irremediably ridiculous in a tuxedo. At the very end, Cliff won the Oil Man of the Year Award...for a tool made by the company he inherited from his mother. A perfect example of the BIG FUN a show like "Dallas" used to give us at the 80´s.

8 de septiembre de 1985: Los Ewing asistían al 2º (y seguramente el mejor de todos) Baile de los Petroleros. Antes de eso, Sue Ellen, que había decidido llevar una vida separada de J.R. pero quedándose en Southfork, y trasladándose a otro dormitorio, sentía de repente un fuerte calentón y añoraba las habilidades de su marido en la cama, después de dar un largo y caluroso paseo por un parque abarrotado de parejas cariñosas y deportistas medio desnudos. J.R. creía que su separación se había acabado pero se equivocaba: sólo le había utilizado como una especie de "servicio de semental", como definió él (podéis ver la escena en el vídeo inferior). También en este episodio, Ray era liberado de prisión tras anular el juez su sentencia de dos años por matar por compasión a su PRIMO (no sobrino) Mickey Trotter. En el episodio siguiente, una de las primeras cosas que hacía Ray era liarse a puñetazos en otra espectacular pelea en el Baile, lo cual hacía que los guionistas parecieran bastante ingenuos e incoherentes...En el Baile, Pam descubría que ahora Jenna se parecía muchísimo a la "viuda" de Elvis Presley, Cliff reversionaba (para conveniencia de la serie) la historia de Bobby y Jenna de manera que todos los espectadores pudieran comprender las siguientes 5 temporadas, Katherine siseaba al reprimir su ira cuando se enteraba de la existencia de Jenna y Peter Richards, el nuevo fan de Sue Ellen tenía un aspecto irremediablemente ridículo vestido de gala...Al final, Cliff ganaba el premio al Petrolero del Año...por una herramienta fabricada por la empresa que había heredado de su madre. Un ejemplo perfecto de lo MUY DIVERTIDA que podía resultar una serie como "Dallas" en los años 80.
