December 18, 1981: J.R. and Sue Ellen divorced by the first time, and they made the headlines the next day! Despite J.R.´s threatens, he didn´t use what he had against her (drinking, adultery, etc.) because his mother Ellie showed up at the divorce hearing. In the same episode, he had been voted out of Ewing Oil but Miss Ellie had to accept him back with Bobby as his watchdog. Also, the matriarch had been able to pay back the loan to Cliff and the Cartel while assuring that the Ewings "sticked together" when there was trouble. Part of the "Dallas" philosophy that was transmitted to the TNT´s continuation. Besides, Sue Ellen proved what an unlikely fashion sense she had regarding hats, Baby Christopher kept crying and crying (something he perfectioned in his adult years...), and Lucy wandered around Dallas in search of someone to kidnap her...
9 de septiembre de 1984 (en Cataluña): J.R. y Sue Ellen se divorciaban por primera vez y aparecían en los titulares al día (episodio) siguiente...A pesar de las amenazas de J.R., éste no llegó a utilizar lo que tenía contra ella (alcoholismo, adulterio, etc.) porque su madre Ellie se presentó en la vista del divorcio. En el mismo episodio, le habían echado de la Ewing Oil pero Ellie se había visto obligada a volver a aceptarlo, poniendo a Bobby como su perro guardián. Además, la matriarca había podido pagar a tiempo el préstamo a Cliff y el Cártel al tiempo que aseguraba que los Ewing "se mantenían unidos" cuando surgían problemas. Parte de la filosofía de "Dallas" que fue transmitida a la continuación emitida por la TNT. Por otro lado, Sue Ellen demostraba que tenía un sentido de la moda dudoso en cuanto a sombreros, el pequeño Christopher no paraba de llorar (algo que perfeccionó en sus años adultos...), y Lucy daba vueltas por Dallas en busca de alguien que la raptara...
