SOAP WARS

You can take several points of view regarding the arguable fact that "Dallas" originated a huge number of similar productions, not only in USA but also in UK, France, Australia and Canada, among other countries. Obviously, our position here is totally favorable to the Lorimar show, thus admitting its merit of walking the tightrope without (almost) never making themselves a fool. It would be endless (and boring) to describe how much the other supersoaps plagiarized storylines, characters and cliffhangers of "Dallas". This is why we will just briefly comment the parallels that, season by season, one could notice on "Dynasty", "The Colby", "Falcon Crest", "Knots Landing" and "Flamingo Road", and, lastly, in the 7 seasons of "Melrose Place" and the 3 most recent supersoaps: "Revenge", TNT "Dallas" and "Empire".

"Dallas" hits number one around the world by shooting J.R. (Larry Hagman) in its sophomore season, as the same network and producers air its spin-off titled "Knots Landing". Gary (Ted Shackelford) and Val (Joan Van Ark) settle down in a tract house built by Bobby´s (Patrick Duffy) company. During season 1, there are several crossovers of characters from the mother series such as J.R., Bobby or Lucy (Charlene Tilton).
