1: "DIGGER´S DAUGHTER" ("LA HIJA DE DIGGER")

Millonario en petróleo y ganado, JOHN JOCK EWING reside con su familia en el rancho SOUTHFORK, cerca de la ciudad de DALLAS. El clan EWING se distingue por la diversidad de los caracteres de sus miembros y por su individualismo a ultranza, alentado por la ambición sin límites y el libre juego de las pasiones. El hijo menor, BOBBY, regresa al rancho casado con PAMELA, LA HIJA DE DIGGER BARNES, el principal enemigo de JOCK:

"Tu familia me echará a patadas del rancho..." - predice PAMELA antes de llegar. El acontecimiento produce el efecto de una bomba en el clan. El hermano mayor, J.R., ve en PAMELA una espía y en BOBBY, que regresa con ganas de trabajar, un peligroso enemigo para su ansia de poder:

"Bebida, bellezas y billetes" - explica BOBBY a PAM sobre su anterior cargo - "eso es lo que hace que los petroleros independientes sigan siéndolo". SUE ELLEN, esposa de J.R., se muestra poco hospitalaria y LUCY, la nieta de los EWING, intenta intimidar a PAM desde el principio. El cabeza de familia, JOCK, se lo reprocha después:

"Eres un asno. Tienes que aprender el arte de la sutileza, porque la falta de ella es lo que convierte a los competidores en enemigos y a estos en fanáticos". J.R. utiliza al capataz RAY KREBBS, antiguo novio de PAM, para separar a la pareja, pero su plan no funciona y murmura:

"He subestimado a la nueva Sra. EWING...No volveré a cometer ese error."

Oil and cattle millionaire, JOHN JOCK EWING lives with his family at the SOUTHFORK Ranch, near the city of DALLAS. The EWING clan stands out for the diversity of tempers of its members and their radical individualism, encouraged by the limitless ambition and the free play of passions. The youngest son BOBBY returns to the ranch married to PAMELA, daughter of DIGGER BARNES, JOCK´s worst enemy:

"Your folks are gonna throw me right off this ranch" - PAMELA predicts. The event is like a bombshell to the clan. The oldest brother J.R. sees a spy in PAMELA, and a dangerous enemy for his lust for power in BOBBY, because he wants to work hard now:

"Booze, broads, and booty" — BOBBY explains to PAM about his old job - "that's what keeps independent oil men independent." J.R.'s wife SUE ELLEN turns out to be rather unfriendly, and LUCY, the EWINGS´ granddaughter, tries to scare away PAM very early on. Head of the family JOCK reproaches it to him afterward:

"You jackass! You gotta to learn the art of subtlety because the lack of it turns competitors into enemies, and enemies into fanatics." J.R. uses foreman RAY KREBBS, PAM´s former boyfriend, to make the couple apart, but his plan backfires and whispers:

"I underestimated the new Mrs. Ewing. I sure as hell won't do that again..."

2: "LESSONS" ("LECCIONES")

PAMELA ya ha conseguido intimar con la familia EWING, sobre todo con su suegra ELLIE, y comienza a sentirse una EWING en todos los sentidos. Sólo tiene problemas con RAY y LUCY, a quien su abuelo consiente todo. PAM se dispone a poner coto a sus andanzas y obligarle a asistir a clase, en vez de pasar el rato con RAY en el pajar...pero ella se rebela y afirma haber sido atacada sexualmente por su consejero escolar. J.R. se ve obligado a dejarle a su hermano las cosas claras en la EWING OIL:

"He tenido que tomar decisiones y hacer tratos que debe hacer todo hombre que dirige una empresa. Y ese es mi trabajo y sólo mío. Mientras yo dirija la empresa, BOBBY, así seguirá siendo." PAM averigua la verdad sobre el ataque a través de su compañero ROGER y consigue que vuelva a la escuela.

PAMELA has already become closer to the EWING family, above all her mother-in-law MISS ELLIE, and begins to feel like an EWING in every sense. She only has problems with RAY and LUCY, spoiled by her grandfather. PAM is determined to put a limit to her shenanigans and make her attend the high school, instead of spending time with RAY at the hayloft...but she rebels and assures she has been sexually attacked by her counselor. J.R. must make things crystal clear to his brother at EWING OIL:

"I've had to make decisions and I've had to make deals that a man who runs a company has to make. And that's my business and mine alone. And as long as I'm running the company, BOBBY, that's the way it's gonna be." PAM finds out the truth about the attack by her schoolmate ROGER and gets her in again.

3: "SPY IN THE HOUSE" ("ESPÍA EN CASA")

CLIFF BARNES, el hermano de PAM, posee unos documentos que comprometen al Senador ORLOFF, amigo de los EWING, relacionados con favores que estos han recibido de él. Cuando el clan se pone a investigar sobre có­mo CLIFF ha podido tener acceso a ellos, se comprueba que PAM los llevó hasta la oficina de J.R., por lo que es acusada de espiar a favor de su hermano. BOBBY, convencido de su inocencia, sale en defensa de PAM y descubre que JULIE GREY, la secretaria de J.R., ha mantenido relaciones con CLIFF para perjudicar a su hermano:

"Le entregué eI archivo a CLIFF BARNES." "¿Por qué?" - pregunta un sorprendido J.R. "Me gusta cómo hace el amor. Pensé que se merecía una recompensa." "¿Le quieres?" "Yo no quiero a nadie" - responde ella. Además, PAM y JULIE sostienen un enfrentamiento:

"Las dos somos de clase trabajadora"- le dice PAM. "Tú te conformaste con lo que podía ofrecerte J.R. y yo me casé con BOBBY. Hice lo que ni siquiera te atreviste a intentar."

CLIFF BARNES, PAM´s brother, owns some compromising papers exposing Senator ORLOFF, a friend of the EWINGS´, related with favors they have received from him. When the clan starts to investigate the way CLIFF could get a hand to them, they learn that PAM took them to J.R.´s office, so she is accused of spying on them for her brother. BOBBY, convinced of her innocence, quickly stands out to defend PAM and discovers that JULIE GREY, J.R.´s secretary, has been sleeping with CLIFF in order to damage his brother:

"I gave the file to Cliff Barnes" "Why?" - a shocked J.R. asks. "I liked the way he made love. I thought he deserved a reward." "Do you love him?" "I don't love anybody" - she answers. Besides, PAM and JULIE have a confrontation:

"Both of us working girls" - PAM tells JULIE. "You settled for what you could have with J.R. and I married Bobby. I did what you were even afraid to try."

4: "WINDS OF VENGEANCE" ("VIENTOS DE VENGANZA")

Después de haber vendido ganado en WACO, J.R. Y RAY deciden echar una cana al aire con 2 mujeres. Cuando se han marchado, llegan el marido y el hermano de una de estas mujeres y encuentran una tarjeta de J.R. LUTHER convence a PAYTON para que vayan a vengar lo que para ellos ha sido una violación. Mientras, un huracán se abate sobre la zona y en el rancho sólo han quedado las mujeres. BOBBY Y JOCK regresan a tiempo de impedir que la venganza se lleve a cabo pero la humillación de SUE ELLEN, delante de todos, ya se ha consumado...

After selling cattle in WACO, J.R. and RAY decide to sleep around with 2 women. After they leave, the husband and the brother of one these women come in and find a card of J.R.´s. LUTHER convinces PAYTON to go and get a revenge for what upon them has been a rape...Meanwhile, a hurricane is striking the area and only the women have stayed at the ranch. BOBBY and JOCK return on time to stop the revenge but not SUE ELLEN´s humiliation, in front of everybody...

5: "BARBECUE" ("LA FIESTA")

Una gran BARBACOA se prepara en SOUTHFORK y PAMELA decide invitar a su padre, convencida de que las rencillas entre DIGGER Y JOCK están superadas, pero BARNES sigue repitiendo su viejo soniquete:

"JOCK tenía la cabeza, y yo el olfato. Él era un tipo listo, nunca lo negué, pero sin mi olfato él no tendría nada. Yo encontré el petróleo y él lo reclamó. Él vendió lo que yo extraje." PAM tiene una buena noticia que darles: está embarazada, cosa que les alegra. LUCY centra su atención en JIMMY, el primo de PAM. El embarazo de PAM preocupa a J.R. y SUE ELLEN, que se refugia en la bebida:

"No hay nada en el mundo que Jock Ewing desee más que un nieto. Y yo no he podido darle uno por tu desinterés hacia mí. ¡Está embarazada, J.R.! Tu hermanito Bobby y esa Barnes van a tener un hijo con el apellido Ewing. Quizá incluso un niño. Piensa en eso..."

PAM encuentra a LUCY y JIMMY en el pajar y, cuando estos se van, aparece J.R., y ella acaba cayendo desde cierta altura, caída que le provoca un aborto.

A big barbecue is being prepared at SOUTHFORK and PAMELA decides to invite her daddy, convinced that there is no resentment left between DIGGER and JOCK, but BARNES keeps repeating his same old song over and over:

"JOCK had the head, I had the nose. He was a smart aleck, I never said otherwise. But without my nose, he wouldn't have nothing. I found the oil, he claimed it. I drilled it, he sold what bubbled up." PAM has good news for them: she is pregnant, which makes them happy. LUCY is focused on JIMMY, PAM´s cousin. PAM´s pregnancy upsets J.R. and SUE ELLEN, who turns to booze:

"There is nothing in this world that Jock Ewing wants more than a grandson. And I haven't been able to give him his first, because of your disinterest in me. She is pregnant, J.R.! Little brother Bobby and that Barnes girl are going to have a baby named Ewing. Maybe even a boy! Now you just think about that!" PAM finds LUCY and JIMMY in the hayloft and, when they go away, J.R. and she argue, and she ends up falling down from a certain height, causing her miscarriage.

From this episode on LINDA GRAY and STEVE KANALY are included in the YELLOW opening credits, and KEN KERCHEVAL becomes a regular character, though the actor did not appear in the titles until Season 2. 6: "REUNION" ("LA REUNIÓN")

En LAS VEGAS, durante una convención, BOBBY se sorprende al descubrir que un camarero es su hermano GARY, largo tiempo ausente. Tras mucho insistir, le convence para que vuelva con su familia a SOUTHFORK. Esto produce un gran impacto en la familia, sobre todo en ELLIE, para quien siempre fue su favorito. LUCY, que se veía en secreto con su madre VALENE, consigue llevarla también a casa y toda la familia está reunida. Pero J.R. ve la reunión con recelo:

"Es un perdedor, Sue Ellen, lo ha sido siempre. Si ahora quiere algo, lo perderá él mismo. No, él estropeará esta visita sin ayuda mía. Cuenta con eso..." "¿Qué piensas hacer respecto a Gary?" - le pregunta ella. "Exactamente lo que mi familia quiere que haga. Convertirme en lo que quieren que sea: el guardián de mi hermano."

In LAS VEGAS for a convention, BOBBY bumps into a waiter who surprisingly turns out to be his long-lost brother GARY. After a long insistence, he persuades him to come back to his family at SOUTHFORK. This shocks the family, especially MISS ELLIE, who always had him as her favorite son. LUCY, who had been secretly meeting her mama VALENE, takes her home too and the whole family is reunited. But J.R. feels suspicious about this reunion:

"He's a loser, Sue Ellen, been a loser every day of his life. Now if he's wants something, he's gonna lose it all by himself. No, he'll mess up this visit without any help from me. You can count on that." "What are you going to do about Gary?" - she asks. "I'm going to do what my family wants me to do. Become just what they want me to become: my brother's keeper."

7: "REUNION" (II)

En un alarde de cinismo, J.R. se muestra con GARY decidido a integrarlo en los negocios de la familia. VAL, su ex esposa, sin embargo, ve en la insistencia de J.R. una estratagema para alejar del rancho a GARY. Mientras, DIGGER vuelve a beber y repudia a su hija PAMELA. La presión acaba obligando a GARY a abandonar el rancho de nuevo, a pesar de los esfuerzos de VAL:

"Vas a coger una pulmonía con una mañana como esta" - le dice J.R. a VAL. "Mientras esté cerca de ti seguiré en peligro de muerte. ¿Qué opción me queda?" "Bueno, 5.000 dólares y alguien que te sacará del estado." "Me lo has quitado todo: mi hija y mi marido... Lo único que no puedes hacer es comprarme con tu dinero Ewing." VALENE prefiere volver a marcharse.

At his most cynical, J.R. seems to agree with the idea of GARY getting involved with the family business. His ex-wife VAL, though, sees J.R.´s persistence as a scheme to pull GARY away from the ranch. In the meantime, DIGGER has been drinking again and rejects her daughter PAMELA. Pressure will make GARY abandon the ranch again, in spite of VAL´s efforts:

"You'll catch your death on a morning like this" - J.R. says to VAL. "I'll catch my death anywhere's around you. Any choices?" "Well...$5000 and an escort out of the state." "You have taken everything from me. My child and my husband. The one thing you can't do is buy me with your Ewing money." VALENE would rather go away on her own.

8: "OLD ACQUAINTANCE" ("ANTIGUA RELACIÓN")

Las discusiones entre BOBBY y J.R. se vuelven cada día más frecuentes ya que este último le mantiene al margen de muchos negocios de la EWING OIL. JOCK, furioso, pide explicaciones a J.R. y, en el transcurso de la discusión, el anciano sufre un ataque cardiaco. Toda la familia da su apoyo al patriarca cuando se le debe implantar un marcapasos. Mientras, J.R. echa un vistazo al testamento de su padre y empieza a intrigar. Finalmente, BOBBY decide dejar la empresa y J.R. vuelve a controlar la EWING OIL:

"Mira, puedo ir a la oficina cada día y darle un puñetazo, pero no quiero vivir así" - asegura BOBBY a su padre.

Arguments between BOBBY and J.R. become more and more frequent as the latter keeps him out of a lot of deals of EWING OIL. BOBBY tells his father about his project of leaving the company and work in the ranch. A furious JOCK asks J.R. for explanations and, during the heated-up argument, the old man suffers a heart attack. All the family gives his support to the patriarch when he must have a By-Pass implanted. Meanwhile, J.R. takes a look at his daddy´s will and starts to scheme. Finally, BOBBY decides to quit the company and J.R. gets back to the control of EWING OIL:

"Look, I can go into the office every day and punch him out, but I don't want to live that way!" - BOBBY assures to his father.

10: "BLACK MARKET BABY" ("MERCADO NEGRO DE BEBÉS")

Durante una reunión familiar, PAMELA anuncia que espera un hijo. JOCK se lleva una gran alegría pues su ilusión es tener un nuevo EWING que continúe el apellido. SUE ELLEN, casada desde hace 7 años y sin descendencia, siente temor y decide adoptar un niño. A escondidas de J.R., inicia los trámites y, ya que puede tardar tres años legalmente, decide comprar uno en el mercado negro. Un día su abogado le presenta a CLIFF en la calle:

"He oído hablar mucho de usted" - le dice ella. "Seguro que sí. No puedo imaginar que hayan dicho nada bueno de mí." "Es mucho más atractivo que su reputación." "Y usted es demasiado hermosa para ser una Ewing." Pero cuando J.R. descubre la existencia de RITA, la madre de alquiler, la manda a California. Luego asegura a SUE ELLEN que, si tienen un hijo, ha de ser "nuestro, no de otros..."

During a family reunion, PAMELA announces she is expecting a baby. JOCK gets very happy since he is thrilled to have a new EWING to continue his name. SUE ELLEN, 7-year-long married, with no children, is afraid and decides to adopt a child. At J.R.´s back, she begins to arrange things and, as it might take 3 years legally, then she decides to buy one at the black market. One day her lawyer introduces CLIFF to her on the street:

"I've heard a lot about you"- she tells him. "Oh, I'm sure you have. I can't imagine any of it having being favorable." "Well, you're much more attractive than your reputation." "You're far too pretty to be a Ewing." But when J.R. discovers the existence of RITA, the surrogate mother, he sends her to California. Then he azures SUE ELLEN that, if they have a baby, it must be "ours, not somebody else´s..."

11: "DOUBLE WEDDING" ("DOBLE BODA")

PAMELA se reencuentra con ED HAYNES y este le recuerda que sigue siendo su esposa. La boda había tenido lugar años antes, durante una excursión en Méjico. Ella era menor de edad y poco después consiguió que fuera anulada. Sin embargo, piensa contárselo todo a BOBBY para evitar malentendidos. Pero ED se le adelanta e informa a J.R. por error:

"Me temo que debió preguntar por el otro Sr. EWING. Verá, mi hermano BOBBY está casado con PAMELA. Pero le aseguro que le ayudaré para que se haga justicia. Los EWING nunca le darían la espalda a un veterano de guerra." Finalmente, BOBBY y PAM encuentran una copia del certificado de anulación y ED desaparece de la ciudad.

PAMELA meets ED HAYNES again and he reminds her they still are husband and wife. The wedding had happened years earlier, during a trip to Mexico. She was a minor and got it annulled not long after that. However, she intends to tell all to BOBBY and avoid misunderstandings. But ED is faster and reports J.R. mistakenly:

"I'm afraid you got the wrong Mr. Ewing. You see, my brother Bobby is married to Pamela. But I wanna assure you I will help you to see that justice is done. The Ewings would never turn their backs on a veteran." Finally, BOBBY and PAM find a copy of the annulment certificate and ED leaves the town.

12: "RUNAWAY" ("LA HUIDA")

En SOUTHFORK se prepara la fiesta del 17º cumpleaños de LUCY, que ha sido mantenida al margen de los preparativos:

"Se supone que es mi fiesta de cumpleaños. La abuela hace la lista de invitados, Sue Ellen contrata a unos músicos ancianos, y J.R. va a usarla para uno de sus grandes negocios. Y ahora tú me compras el vestido. Odio a esta familia..." - le dice a Pam. Su enfado aumenta al recibir una carta de VALENE en que le explica que no recibió dinero de J.R. A la vista de esto, ruega a su abuelo que la invite a la fiesta, pero JOCK se niega en redondo y ella huye con el coche de J.R. esa noche. Siguiendo la pista de VAL, se cruza con un joven llamado WILLIE GUST, que la hace cómplice de una serie de robos...Cuando la policía les localiza, BOBBY consigue sacar a LUCY indemne de todo aquello y llevarla al rancho.

"No fue tu último cumpleaños - le dice; - "por poco" - contesta ella.

At SOUTHFORK, LUCY´s 17th Birthday Party is being organized, but she has been kept aside from the preparations:

"This is supposed to be my birthday party. Grandma is making out the invitation list. Sue Ellen is gonna hire some old-fogy band. And J.R.'s gonna use it for one of his big deals. And now you're gonna buy my clothes. I hate this family!" - she tells Pam. She gets still angrier when she receives a letter from VALENE explaining she did not accept any money from J.R. Under these circumstances, she begs her granddaddy to let her invite VAL at the party, but JOCK refuses absolutely and she escapes driving J.R.´s car that night. Following VAL´s track, she crosses with a young man called WILLIE GUST, who makes her look like she is his accomplice in a chain of robberies... La carrera de CLIFF para obtener un puesto en el Senado ha colocado a su hermana PAM en una comprometida situacion ante los EWING:

"Ese hombre debe tener alguna debilidad, está limpio" - maquina J.R. con su padre. "Nadie ha llegado tan lejos en política así" - afirma JOCK. "Ha sido precavido, eso es todo. Y no lo olvides: es un Barnes. En algún lugar debe de tener enterrado un cadáver. Encuéntralo" "De acuerdo, y si no puedo encontrarlo, lo enterraré yo mismo." "Lo que sea." Para disipar dudas, PAM declara abiertamente que va a ayudar a su hermano, que se enfrentará al candidato de los EWING. J.R. pone todo su esfuerzo en desbancar a CLIFF, insinuando que podría ser homosexual. Cuando PAM oye esto, revela sin querer que su hermano tuvo una novia. La prensa acaba publicando que esta joven fue victima de un aborto ilegal y murió. CLIFF ve arruinada su carrera:

"Los Ewing destruyen todo lo que tocan y ahora, tú eres una de ellos. Si vives con serpientes, te conviertes en una. Así que, ¿por qué no vuelves adonde debes estar?" PAM asegura a J.R. que, algún día, aprenderá jugar con sus normas y le hará pagar por eso...

CLIFF´s run for the TEXAS Senate has placed his sister PAM in a compromising situation before the EWINGS: "There must be something wrong with the man, he's just clean!" - J.R. and his father scheme. "Nobody's gotten that far in politics and stayed clean" - assures JOCK. "He's just been careful, that's all. And don't forget, he's a Barnes. There's bound to be a body in that closet someplace. Find it!" "Alright, if I can't find it, I'll put it there!" "Whatever." To dissipate the doubts, PAM openly declares that she will help her brother, opposite the EWING candidate. J.R. tries very hard to make CLIFF lose the Election, hinting that he could be homosexual. When PAM hears this, she unwillingly reveals that her brother had a girlfriend once. The press eventually publishes that the young woman was killed as she was having an illegal abortion done. CLIFF sees his career ruined:

"The Ewings destroy anything they get their hands on! And you're one of them now. You live with vipers, you become a viper! So why don't you go back to where you belong?" PAM assures J.R. that someday, she will learn to play under their rules and make him pay for this...

A causa de una fuerte tormenta, el avión de los EWING se precipita a una zona pantanosa, con BOBBY y J.R. dentro. Las mujeres ignoran su suerte y tratan de ocultarle la noticia a JOCK, recuperándose de su crisis cardiaca. SUE ELLEN se hunde desesperada en el alcohol, temiendo que la muerte de J.R. signifique su exclusión del clan, ya que no han tenido hijos:

"Por mucho que te cueste creerlo, no soy una avariciosa como tú, SUE ELLEN" - le dice LUCY. "¡Eres una mocosa!" - responde ella. "Es cierto, pero soy una EWING, de nacimiento. Apuesto a que lamentas de verdad no haber tenido uno como yo, porque si J.R. muere sin que hayas sido madre - añade una malintencionada LUCY - nunca tendrás SOUTHFORK". un reportero que llega a SOUTHFORK es alejado a punta de escopeta por ELLIE:

"¿Sabe lo que les hacemos a los buitres aquí, Sr. Jackson?" - le dice ELLIE a un periodista - "RAY, tráeme la escopeta del armario. Todo el que entre en mi rancho sin invitación es un intruso. A menos que dé media vuelta y se marche de aquí rápido, dispararé esta escopeta." Pero no puede evitar que JOCK lo sepa finalmente. Cuando los hermanos vuelven al rancho, BOBBY revela que fue J.R. quien cuidó de él y del piloto, y quien lanzó sus antorchas de alerta.

Due to a strong tempest, the EWINGS´ plane has fallen down into a swamp area, carrying BOBBY and J.R. on. The women ignore their fate and try to keep the news away from JOCK, still recovering from his heart condition. SUE ELLEN gets down desperately and begins to drink, afraid of J.R.´s death might mean her exclusion of the clan, not having mothered an EWING heir:

"As hard as it may be for you to believe, I'm not money hungry like you are, SUE ELLEN - says LUCY. "You brat!" - she answers. "That's right, I'm a Ewing brat. A born EWING. I bet you're real sorry that you don't have a little brat of your own, like me. 'Cause if J.R. is dead, without a child" - adds a mean-spirited LUCY - you´ll never have SOUTHFORK". A reporter who arrives at SOUTHFORK is scared away at gun´s point by MISS ELLIE:

"Do you know what we do to vultures out here, Mr. Jackson? - she tells a reporter - "RAY, get me the shotgun out of the hall closet! Anybody on my land without invitation is a trespasser. So unless I see your tail heading out of here right now, and fast, I'm gonna blow it off!" But she can´t help JOCK knowing about it, finally. When the brothers get back at the ranch, BOBBY explains that it was J.R. the one who cared about him and the pilot, and launched the alert lights.

A pesar de que BOBBY no ve con buenos ojos el trabajo de su mujer en LA TIENDA, ella sigue dedicándose entusiasmada a la alta costura. Por su parte, SUE ELLEN continúa viéndose con CLIFF, encuentros que toman un carácter más íntimo gracias a un viaje de J.R.:

"Estoy harta de que J.R. consiga siempre lo que quiere." "Por eso me elegiste a mí, el perdedor... - responde CLIFF. "Bueno, pues tengo que decirte algo: me han vencido antes, pero nunca he perdido. ¿Comprendes la diferencia?" PAMELA se ve en un dilema: quedarse en DALLAS y organizar una fiesta muy importante para BOBBY, o hacer un viaje de negocios a PARIS. Cuando J.R. y SUE ELLEN se reencuentran, él se lleva una desagradable sorpresa: su mujer está embarazada y los cálculos señalan a otro como padre:

"Cosas más raras han pasado" - arguye ella - "Pero no a mí" - contesta J.R., abofeteándola.

Despite BOBBY cannot see right her wife working at THE STORE, she enthusiastically keeps devoting herself to haute couture. On her side, SUE ELLEN continues her meetings with CLIFF, meetings that become closer thanks to a trip of J.R.:

"I'm just so tired of J.R. getting everything he wants and always winning." "So you picked me, the loser..." - CLIFF answers. "Well, I've got to tell you something: I've been beaten before, but I have never lost. Understand the difference?" PAMELA is in a dilemma: staying in DALLAS and organize a very important party for BOBBY, or going on a business trip to PARIS. When J.R. and SUE ELLEN meet again, he gets an unpleasant surprise: his wife is pregnant and calculations point at someone else as the father:

"Stranger things happened" - she argues - "But not to me" - he answers, and slaps her.

Algunos miembros de la familia se encuentran en una sala de fiestas escuchando a una cantante llamada GARNET McGEE. La familia se sorprende al ver que RAY tiene una estrecha relación con ella. El capataz, que ha pensado contraer matrimonio, está seguro de que GARNET es su compañera ideal. J.R. conoce a la cantante durante una fiesta en el rancho y recurre a su influencia para que la chica caiga en sus redes. A su vez, JOCK regala a RAY unos terrenos al Norte de SOUTHFORK, donde podrá edificar su casa. Finalmente J.R. provoca la ruptura de la pareja y BOBBY debe impedir que RAY acabe con la vida de su hermano:

"KREBBS, quiero que te marches de SOUTHFORK cuando salga el sol" - amenaza J.R. "Iba a marcharme, pero creo que he cambiado de idea. Si quieres que me vaya, tendrás que convencer a JOCK de que me despida" - responde el capataz.

Some members of the family are reunited at a nightclub listening to a singer called GARNET McGEE. The family is surprised to see that RAY has a close relationship with her. The foreman, who has been thinking about marriage, is convinced that GARNET is his ideal mate. J.R. knows the singer during a party at the Ranch and turns to his influence to make her fall into his arms. At the same time, JOCK gives RAY some lands at North SOUTHFORK, where he will be able to build up his house. Finally, J.R. breaks up the couple and BOBBY must stop RAY to end his brother´s life:

"KREBBS, I want you off SOUTHFORK by sun up"- he threatens."I was gonna leave, But I think I just changed my mind about that. I'm staying now. You want me off that ranch, you're gonna have to get Jock to fire me if you can" - the foreman replies.

BOBBY se encuentra casualmente con TAYLOR BENNETT, un antiguo compañero de estudios de BOBBY y su ídolo en el equipo de rugby. La llegada de TAYLOR es acogida con desconfianza cuando él expone su proyecto de asociarse con BOBBY y construir un centro comercial. El problema estriba en que debería estar situado en la sección 40 de SOUTHFORK, todavía intacta pero rica en petróleo. Dos socios de J.R. descubren el plan, que arruinaría su propio trato en común para esa tierra:

"Si no detienes a BOBBY, lo haré yo" - le dice uno de ellos. "No volváis a amenazar a mi hermano ni a ningún otro EWING. Os he dicho que yo me encargaré de ello, y ahora, largaos de mi despacho." La intervención de PAM en el asunto impide que la amistad entre ambos acabe bruscamente.

BOBBY meets by chance TAYLOR BENNETT, a former college mate of BOBBY´s and his idol at the football team. TAYLOR´s arrival is seen with reluctance when he explains his project to associate with BOBBY and build up a shopping mall. The problem is that it should be located in Section 40 of SOUTHFORK, still intact but rich in oil. Two partners of J.R. find out about the plan, which would ruin their own joint venture with that land:

"If you don't stop Bobby I'll stop him" - one of them tells him. "Don't you ever threaten my brother or any other Ewing! I told you I'd handle this. Now, get out of my office." PAM´s intervention between them avoids the friendship´s abrupt end.

18: "KIDNAPPED" ("SECUESTRO")

Un grupo de secuestradores planea una operación ±ue consiste en apoderarse de J.R. y pedir un fuerte rescate por su libertad. Pero la operación falla en el último momento y el secuestrado es BOBBY, que ese día había pedido a J.R. el coche prestado. CLIFF es elegido para que actúe como intermediario pero J.R. se niega a tratar con él. La familia reúne el rescate y espera instrucciones. Al final, la intromisión de J.R. no hará sino agravar la situación y enfurecer a CLIFF, que arriesga su vida.

"Conmigo allí, nunca ha estado más seguro en mi vida" - bromea J.R. más tarde.

A band of kidnappers is planning an operation to get J.R. and ask a big ransom for his freedom. But the operation fails at the last minute and the one kidnapped is BOBBY, who had borrowed J.R.´s car that day. CLIFF is the chosen one to be an intermediary but J.R. refuses to deal with him. The family sums up the ransom and expect instructions. In the end, J.R.´s interference will make the things worse and CLIFF, angry, since his life has been endangered.

"With me there, he was never safer in his life" - J.R. mockingly says later.

Después de muchos años de creerle muerto, un día aparece por el rancho GARRISON SOUTHWORTH, hermano de ELLIE, acompañado de una joven. Todos se alegran de verle con vida, pero poco después nace la desconfianza en JOCK y J.R. Sospechan que GARRISON viene a recuperar su parte del rancho:

"Ese anciano no va a quitarle a mi hijo su herencia" - asegura SUE ELLEN. "Los Ewing se quedarán con SOUTHFORK, cariño" - le dice J.R. "Me encargaré de eso." ELLIE está dispuesta a evitar todo tipo de disputas y decide devolverle a su hermano la propiedad del rancho. La reacción de J.R. no se hace esperar:

"Lucharemos contra ti en todos los juzgados de este país". Cuando GARRISON acepta el desafío, ELLIE reprueba a su hijo: "¿Cómo te atreves a hablarle así a mi hermano? Tú diriges la EWING OIL, y lo haces bien, pero no me diriges a mí." Pero GARRISON ha sido desahuciado por el médico y le queda poco tiempo de vida...

After a long time of being presumed dead, one day comes up at the Ranch GARRISON SOUTHWORTH, MISS ELLIE´s brother, accompanied by a young woman. They all are happy to see him alive, but shortly after suspicion arises in JOCK and J.R. They suspect that GARRISON has come for his share of the ranch:

"That old man is not gonna cheat my child out of his inheritance!" - assures SUE ELLEN. "The Ewings are on Southfork to stay, honey" - says J.R. "I'll take care of that." ELLIE is determined to stop any fight and decides to return her brother the ranch´s ownership.

"We'll fight you through every court in this country". When GARRISON accepts the challenge, MISS ELLIE reproaches her son: "How dare you talk to my brother that way! You run EWING OIL, and you do that well but you do not run me!" But GARRISON is hopeless about his health and has little time left to live...

Las relaciones entre J.R. y SUE ELLEN son cada día más difíciles, hasta el punto de que ella decide abandonar el rancho. Cuando J.R. se entera de que se ha marchado a la ciudad, lo atribuye al hecho de que quiere pasar unos días con su madre y su hermana KRISTIN:

"Mi mayor esperanza para KRISTIN es que ella tenga tanta suerte en su elección de marido como SUE ELLEN" - confía PATRICIA a J.R. "No creo que vayas a tener el más mínimo problema" - afirma él. Pero su ira se desborda cuando se entera de que se ha instalado con CLIFF. No obstante, ninguno de los dos se ve capaz de renunciar a sus ambiciones y enfrentarse con J.R. SUE ELLEN acaba regresando a SOUTHFORK, no sin antes ser descubierta por PAM:

"No sé explicarlo" - le dice CLIFF a SUE ELLEN. "J.R. mueve los hilos y tal vez yo tenga que aprender a jugar su juego." "¿Eso soy yo, sólo un juego?" "No." "El ganador recibe el premio y vuelve a casa. ¿Eso es lo que soy, sólo un premio...?"

The relationship between J.R. and SUE ELLEN is harder and harder, up to the point that she decides to leave the ranch. When J.R. learns that she left to town, he thinks that she wants to spend some time with her mother and sister KRISTIN.

"My fondest hope for her is that she'll be just as fortunate in her choice of husbands as Sue Ellen was" - PATRICIA confides to J.R. "I don't think you're gonna have the slightest trouble" - he responds. But his wrath gets loose when he knows that she is staying with CLIFF. However, none of them is capable to give up on their ambitions and face J.R. SUE ELLEN ends up returning to SOUTHFORK, after her affair is discovered by PAM:

"I can't explain it" - CLIFF says to SUE ELLEN - "J.R. just pushes certain buttons and maybe I got to learn to play the other man's game." "So that's what it is, just a game?" "No." "The winner takes the marbles and goes home. Is that what I am, just the marbles...?"

JULIE GREY regresa a DALLAS e intenta ponerse en contacto con JOCK. Este se encuentra totalmente acomplejado porque su familia no le permite hacer nada en el rancho. Temen que se produzca una recaída en su enfermedad, y él se siente como un inválido. Sin embargo, el encuentro con JULIE es para el viejo una dosis de optimismo. Sus relaciones se van convirtiendo en una sincera amistad que acaba produciendo dolores de cabeza a la familia. ELLIE teme estar perdiendo el afecto de su marido y acude a ver a JULIE:

"Su marido y yo sólo somos amigos" - asegura ella - "Nos hacemos compañía mientras nuestros seres queridos están demasiado ocupados para ver que sufrimos, que estamos solos. Nos hacemos sentir necesitados y respetados. Para mí, él es JOCK EWING. Y que necesite mi amistad y compañía, significa mucho para ambos. Nuestra relación no es lo que usted pensó que era..." Pero ELLIE le responde con sequedad: "No, es mucho más seria." Cuando JOCK rompe su amistad con JULIE, esta amenaza a J.R. con causarle problemas.

"No cuentes con ello", le dice él.

JULIE GREY returns to DALLAS and tries to contact JOCK. He is feeling completely complexed because his family does not allow him to do anything in the ranch. They are afraid that he might have another heart attack and he feels unuseful. However, the meeting with JULIE means a dose of optimism for the old man. Their relationship grows into an honest friendship that ends up giving headaches to the family. MISS ELLIE fears she is losing his husband´s affection and goes to JULIE´s:

"Your husband and I are just friends" - she assures - "We keep each other company while the people we love are too busy to see that we're in pain, that we're lonely. We make each other feel needed, respected. For me, he's JOCK EWING. And for that man to need my friendship, to want my company, you don't know what that means to me and to him. Our relationship is not what you thought it was." But ELLIE answers abruptly: "No, it's far more serious." When JOCK ends his friendship with JULIE, she threatens J.R. with causing troubles.

"Don´t count on it!", he says.

22: "THE RED FILE" ("EL EXPEDIENTE ROJO") (I)

Después de los malos tratos recibidos por parte de J.R., JULIE decide que es hora de darle una buena lección. Para ello busca a CLIFF, a quien está dispuesta a revelar algunos secretos que ella guarda celosamente:

"Tengo trabajo que hacer" - afirma CLIFF - . "Voy a usar todo el poder de esta oficina para enterrar a J.R. Ewing."

CLIFF acude al apartamento de JULIE, convencido de que podrá darle el golpe de gracia a su enemigo. Sin embargo, su sorpresa es enorme al encontrarla muerta en el asfalto, tras caer desde lo alto de su edificio. CLIFF es detenido como su presunto asesino.

After being abused by J.R., JULIE decides to teach him a good lesson, so she calls CLIFF, to whom she is willing to reveal some secrets she has carefully kept:

"I have a job to do" - assures CLIFF - "I intend to use the full power of this office to bury J.R. Ewing."

CLIFF comes to JULIE´s, convinced that he will be able to give his enemy the "coup de grâce". However, he is shocked to find her dead in the gutter, after falling off her building roof. CLIFF is arrested as his presumed murderer.

23: "THE RED FILE" (II)

J.R. continúa insinuando que CLIFF es el asesino de JULIE, insinuaciones que molestan a PAM. Esta abandona el rancho, dejando completamente confundido a BOBBY. PAMELA se dirige a J.R. y le hace saber que está decidida a ayudar a CLIFF a demostrar su inocencia. Lo que todos ignoran es que JULIE ha sido asesinada por dos socios de J.R. para ocultar cosas como un falso codicilo del testamento de JOCK:

"Me has humillado delante del cártel. Me has quitado todo mi poder" - se queja él. "Maravilloso, J.R. - responde BOBBY. "Has falsificado el testamento de papá, has culpado a CLIFF de asesinato y sólo puedes pensar en tu poder." Cuando J.R. averigua la verdad, se pone en acción para que nadie le asocie con los asesinos. Estos son arrestados y condenados, y CLIFF queda en libertad. Pero PAM no está preparada para volver a vivir en Southfork:

J.R. keeps hinting that CLIFF has murdered JULIE, which bothers PAM. She leaves the ranch, leaving BOBBY absolutely confused. PAMELA tells J.R. and lets him know that she is determined to help CLIFF to prove his innocence. What everybody ignores is that JULIE was pushed to death by two associates of J.R. in order to hide such things as a fake codicil of JOCK's will:

"You've wrecked me at the cartel. Stripped me of all my power" - he complains. "That's wonderful, J.R. - BOBBY answers. You forged daddy's will, set Cliff Barnes for a murder, and all you can think about is your power." When J.R. knows the truth, he gets into action so nobody can link him to the murderers. These are arrested and convicted, and CLIFF is released. But PAM is not ready to live back at Southfork:

"It's the old Barnes and Ewing feud again, isn't it? Well, I love you Pamela and I want you back with me. But you got to remember I was a Ewing when you married me, and I'll be a Ewing till I die. If you think you can live with that, then you call me."

Tras la separación de BOBBY y PAM, entra en escena KRISTIN, la hermana de SUE ELLEN. Es una joven ambiciosa, que va a estudiar Arquitectura, pero que aspira a participar de la fortuna EWING:

"Te repito, SUE ELLEN, que sé exactamente lo que voy a hacer en la vida. Y dejar que me hagan daño no entra en mis planes." Para eso, pone cerco a BOBBY, con sus encantos personales. A su vez, J.R. apoya todos los intentos de KRISTIN para conquistarle. Mientras, CLIFF pide un préstamo a PAM alegando que desea comprarle unas tierras a DIGGER. Cuando PAM descubre que ha sido utilizada por su hermano, se siente traicionada:

"Mientras sigas pensando que CLIFF es Sir Galahad y los EWING las fuerzas del mal, creo que no tiene sentido que hablemos" - le dice BOBBY. KRISTIN se ve obligada a marcharse de Southfork...por el momento.

After BOBBY and PAM´s separation, comes in KRISTIN, SUE ELLEN´s sister. She is an ambitious girl who is going to study Architecture, but she also aspires to get a part of the EWING fortune:

"I keep telling you, SUE ELLEN, I know exactly what I'm going to do with my life. And being hurt is just not part of the plan." Therefore she chases BOBBY with her personal charms. At the same time, J.R. supports KRISTIN´s all attempts to win his heart. Meanwhile, CLIFF asks PAM for a loan in order to buy some lands for DIGGER. When PAM finds out that her brother has been using her, she feels betrayed:

"As long as you think that Cliff is Sir Galahad and the Ewings are the forces of evil, I think there's no sense of talking." KRISTIN is obligated to leave Southfork...for now.

En su nuevo trabajo, PAM ha conocido a una modelo de alta costura llamada LEANNE REES. Esta invita a PAM a compartir su apartamento, proposición interesante para PAM, separada de BOBBY. Pero al mismo tiempo, J.R., que conoce el pasado de LEANNE, aprovecha esto para hundir a su cuñada. SUE ELLEN sigue ahogando sus penas en el alcohol:

"Ven aquí, Miss Tejas" - le dice J.R., obligándole a mirarse en el espejo. "Quiero que veas algo. Bonito, ¿verdad? Una borracha. Una golfa." "Y la madre de tu hijo" - añade ella. "¿De verdad?" "Es posible" "Escúchame bien: Cuida de ese niño y asegúrate de que es feliz y tiene buena salud. Porque será lo único que te salvará de la miseria." Al mismo tiempo, J.R. pretende arrastrar con ella a BEN MAXWELL, el hombre que apoya a CLIFF. Para sorpresa del petrolero, un escandaloso artícµlo que relaciona a PAM con BEN no tiene otro efecto que la reunión de la pareja.

At her new job, PAM has met a top model called LEANNE REES. She invites PAM to share her condo, an interesting proposal to PAM, separated from BOBBY. But J.R., who knows LEANNE´s past, takes advantage of it to put her sister-in-law down. SUE ELLEN keeps drinking her sorrows away:

"Come here, Miss Texas" - J.R. tells him, as he makes her look at herself in the mirror. "I want you to look at something. Pretty ain't it? A lush! A tramp!" "And the mother of your child." "Really?" "Chances are." "You listen to me carefully, SUE ELLEN. You take care of that baby, you hear? Make sure it's a happy, healthy one. 'Cause it's the only thing standing between you and the gutter!" J.R. also intends to ruin BEN MAXWELL, the man supporting CLIFF. To J.R.´s dismay, a sensational story in the news involving PAM with BEN just pulls the couple together again.

LUCY se ha enamorado locamente de KIT MAINWARING III, heredero de una importante familia. Su entusiasmo contagia a todo el clan, sobre todo a J.R., que quiere fusionar ambos imperios. Sin embargo, el novio hace a BOBBY una revelación inesperada: es homosexual y no desea hacer daño a LUCY. Al descubrir que J.R. siempre lo ha sabido, le dice:

"Justo cuando creo que sé lo bajo que puedes caer, J.R., me sorprendes y caes aún más bajo." KIT también confiesa la verdad a la joven:

"No quería serlo. Quería que la sociedad me aceptase normalmente y hacer felices y orgullosos a mis padres. Debo aprender a gustarme a mí mismo tal como soy. De alguna manera, al quererte a ti, he aprendido mucho sobre mí mismo y te estoy muy agradecido. No sabes cuánto lamento haberte hecho daño..." Después acuerdan separarse y ella inventa una razón para anular la boda...

LUCY is madly in love with KIT MAINWARING III, heir to a wealthy family. Her joy expands to the whole clan, especially J.R., who wants to merge both empires. However, the groom makes an unexpected confession to BOBBY: he is a homosexual and does not intend to hurt LUCY. When he discovers that J.R. has always known about it, he tells him:

"Just when I think I know how low you are, J.R., you surprise me and reach a whole new depth." KIT also confesses the truth to the young woman:

"I didn't want to be. I wanted to be socially normal. I wanted to be accepted. I wanted to make my parents happy. To make them proud of me. I've got to learn to like myself the way I am. Somehow, by loving you, I've managed to find out a whole lot about myself and I'm very grateful to you for that. I can't tell you how badly I feel that I've hurt you..." After talking it out to her, they agree to set the wedding off and she makes up a reason for it...

RAY KREBBS conoce a una mujer llamada DONNA McCULLUM en un bar, en circunstancias muy especiales. La belleza de la mujer le atrae desde el primer instante y el sentimiento es recíproco:

"Tengo 28 años, nací en MARSHALL, TEJAS" - explica ella a RAY. "Y no sé realmente qué hago aquí sentada contigo. Creo que es porque anoche no intentaste ligar conmigo. ¿Qué estás buscando?" "Nada complicado. Quizá sólo un final feliz..." "Tal vez el final dependa del comienzo. Comenzar algo con alguien con quien puedas tener un final feliz." RAY comienza a pensar de nuevo en la posibilidad de una boda. Entonces, entra en escena J.R., que lo ha descubierto, y amenaza a DONNA con informar a su marido."Esta noche pareces muy satisfecho contigo mismo, J.R. ¿Has desahuciado a alguna viuda hoy?" - le pregunta una cínica SUE ELLEN. "Sigue bebiendo así, y serás tú la que acabe viviendo entre un montón de basura, cariño". El marido de DONNA es SAM CULVER, un anciano senador al que acaba abandonando. Sin embargo, RAY y DONNA se separan temporalmente.

RAY KREBBS meets by chance a woman called DONNA McCULLUM in a bar, in very special circumstances. The woman´s beauty appeals him from the very beginning and she feels the same way:

"I'm 28. I was born in Marshall, Texas. And, you know, I really don't know what I'm doing here with you. I think it's the fact that you didn't try and hit on me last night. What are you looking for?" "Nothing complicated. Maybe just a happy ending..." "Well, it could be the ending depends on the start. Beginning with somebody that you could end up happy with." Once more, RAY begins to think about the possibility of getting married. Then comes into the scene J.R., who has found about it, and threatens DONNA with reporting her husband on it.

"You seem mighty happy with yourself tonight, J.R. You managed to evict some widows today?" - says SUE ELLEN cynically. "You keep drinking like that, and you're gonna be evicted onto a trash heap, dear." DONNA´s husband is SAM CULVER, an older US Senator she eventually leaves. RAY and DONNA make apart, though.

SUE ELLEN se ve obligada a encarar sus problemas con el alcohol cuando su coche se sale de la calzada. ELLIE, a solas con J.R., le lee la cartilla. Ajena a esto, LUCY ha encontrado refugio en las anfetaminas, tras su último desengaño. Cuando esta se presenta drogada en casa de RAY e intenta seducirle, el problema se hace evidente para la familia. En Southfork, SUE ELLEN se regodea en su autocompasión:

"¿Es eso una disculpa? No creo lo que oyen mis oídos. Tu padre debió darte anoche unos buenos azotes, J.R. Porque lo que yo soy, es lo que tú has hecho de mí. Y seguirás conmigo. Tú y tu preciosa familia. Hasta que la muerte nos separe..." "Pero sólo gracias a ese bastardo que llevas dentro", sentencia J.R. Al enterarse de que CLIFF ha encontrado otra pareja, se emborracha y cae escaleras abajo. LUCY la observa estúpidamente, hasta que las encuentra RAY. Presionado por JOCK, J.R. accede a internar a su esposa en un sanatorio:

"No me dejas elección, SUE ELLEN. No sabes cuidar de tu vida y mucho menos de la de tu hijo. No puedo confiar en que mantengas la boca cerrada cuando has estado bebiendo. Hay demasiados secretos entre nosotros para arriesgarme a que sepan. Al menos hasta que el niño haya nacido. Es lo mejor para todos cariño..." "Por favor, J.R. Haré todo lo que digas, todo...Me vengaré de ti, aunque sea lo último que haga. No sé cómo pero me vengaré de ti..." - grita una exasperada SUE ELLEN.

SUE ELLEN must face her issues with booze when she drives her car out of the road. Alone with J.R., MISS ELLIE lectures him. Unaware of this, LUCY has turned to amphetamines after her heartbreak. When she shows up at RAY drugged up and tries to seduce him, the problem becomes obvious to the family. At Southfork, SUE ELLEN is turning to self-pity:

"Is that an apology? I don't believe my ears. Your daddy must have given you a tongue-lashing last night, J.R. Because what I am, you made me. And you're stuck with me. You and your precious family. Till death do us apart..." "But only thanks to that bastard you´re carrying", says J.R. When she knows that CLIFF has a girlfriend, she gets drunk and falls downstairs, as LUCY watches her stupidly until RAY finds them. Pressed by JOCK, J.R. agrees to commit his wife into a sanitarium:

"I've got no choice, SUE ELLEN. You can't take care of your own life, much less the life of your child. And I can't trust you to keep your mouth shut when you've been drinking. We've both got too many secrets to risk them getting out. At least until the child is born. Now it's best for everybody, darling..." "Please don't, J.R. I'll do anything you say. Anything. Just don't...I'll get you for this, J.R. if it's the last thing I do. I don't know how yet, but I'll get you..." - yells an infuriated SUE ELLEN.

Días después J.R. visita a su mujer en la clínica, pero ella se muestra muy violenta. Cuando, más tarde, acude ELLIE, esta le aconseja:

"Tienes que vivir tu propia vida, no sólo complacer a J.R., JOCK o a mí." LUCY parece haber reaccionado y, tras saber que ha aprobado los exá­menes, rechaza a sus presuntos amigos. En la clínica, SUE ELLEN consigue alcohol a través de una enfermera. Cuando J.R. le enseña µna foto del periódico con CLIFF y su nueva novia, ella se hunde. BOBBY, por su parte, intenta reconfortarla:

"Si te hubiera conocido a ti primero, BOBBY, me habría casado contigo y no con J.R. Eres amable, fuerte y cariñoso. Todo lo que debe ser un hombre." Pero ella expresa su angustia y confiesa la verdad. Cuando BOBBY descubre que CLIFF puede ser padre del bebé, acude a verlo y le amenaza:

"Para tu información, J.R. ya lo sabe", le informa CLIFF. Poco después, SUE ELLEN golpea a la enfermera y huye de allí en un coche robado. Acaba en el hospital, donde deben adelantarle el parto mediante cesárea. "Es padre de un niño, anuncia la enfermera. "JOHN ROSS EWING III", le bautiza orgulloso JOCK. "Su estado es delicado." "¿Y SUE ELLEN?" "Está viva, y eso es lo que importa". CLIFF llega al hospital justo cuando JOCK y ELLIE se marchan, y PAM le ve entrar.

"Es mi hijo, exclama, y si vive, será educado como un Barnes, ¡lo juro, PAMELA!" En la habitación donde duerme SUE ELLEN, bajo los efectos de la anestesia, J.R. Y BOBBY se disponen a marcharse.

"No lo entiendo - confía J.R. a BOBBY - cuando nos casamos yo la quería. ¿Por qué todo cambia tan de repente? Tienes que vivir, por favor, SUE ELLEN..."

A few days later J.R. visits his wife at the clinic, but she gets very violent. When MISS ELLIE comes afterward, she advises her:

"You must live your own life, not only please J.R., JOCK or me." LUCY seems to be recovered and, after knowing she has passed the final exams, rejects her alleged friends. At the sanitarium, SUE ELLEN gets alcohol through a nurse. When J.R. shows her a picture in the paper with CLIFF and his new girlfriend, she gets depressed. BOBBY tries to comfort her as well:

"If I had only met you first, BOBBY. I would have married you instead of J.R. You are so kind, and strong, and loving. Just like a man should be." But she expresses her anxiety and confesses the truth. When BOBBY learns that CLIFF may be the baby's father, calls on him and threatens him:

"For your information, J.R. already knows", says CLIFF. Shortly after, SUE ELLEN knocks down the nurse and runs away in a stolen car. She ends up at the hospital, where she has to be performed a Caesarean section, although it is 8 weeks until the baby is due. "You have a son", the nurse announces. "JOHN ROSS EWING III", a proud JOCK says. "His condition is delicate, and SUE ELLEN is alive and that is what matters." CLIFF arrives at the hospital just when JOCK and ELLIE are leaving, and PAM notices him.

"I know he's mine - he claims - and, if he lives, he´ll be raised as a BARNES, I swear it, PAMELA!" In the room where SUE ELLEN is, still under the anesthetics´ effects, J.R. and BOBBY are about to leave.

"I don´t understand it - J.R. confides to BOBBY - Why can´t we get to normal? When we first married, I had loved her so much. What happened? I don´t know when it all went wrong... Oh BOBBY, she´s got to live, she´s just got to..."
