35 - the dove hunt

October 26, 1979: Jock Ewing and sons went hunting and found themselves being hunted, or almost! Those strangers were sharpshooters and hit both J.R. and Jock. While they were alone, the patriarch asked his son to take care of a first wife whose existence nobody knew, Amanda. Not even Miss Ellie had a clue about it because he filed for a divorce when he and Ellie got engaged. Amanda also appeared in a brief scene in the prequel miniseries "The Early Years", when he visits her in a sanitarium when he has already decided to marry Ellie. This character was seen twice in the series: first when the couple went to see her again in this season´s penultimate episode, and, years later, when the Ewing brothers needed some info to win Cliff at court and keep the company. The episode also gives an insight to the life of the brothers and Ray (still not acknowledged as such) when they were a lot younger.

16 de marzo de 1982: Jock Ewing y sus hijos se iban de caza y acababan siendo ellos las presas, o poco faltó...Aquellos desconocidos eran buenos tiradores y alcanzaron tanto a J.R. como a Jock. Una vez a solas, el patriarca pedía a su hijo que cuidase de una 1ª esposa cuya existencia todo el mundo ignoraba, Amanda. Ni siquiera Ellie lo sospechaba porque le había pedido el divorcio cuando él y Ellie se prometieron. Amanda apareció asimismo en una breve escena en la miniserie-precuela "Los primeros años", cuando él la visita en el sanatorio tras decidir que va a casarse con Ellie. Este personaje fue visto dos veces en la serie: primero, cuando la pareja la visitó de nuevo en el penúltimo episodio de esa temporada, y años más tarde, cuando los hermanos Ewing necesitaban información para vencer a Cliff en el juicio por el control de la compañía. El episodio ofrece también una perspectiva de la vida de los hermanos y de Ray (aún no reconocido como tal) en su juventud.
