· Good evening!
Band booster meeting moved to next Monday the 15th!!
Some rose parade info has come in. This is from Mr. Tate, but please direct any questions towards me and I will answer you or will find the answer.
Rose Parade:
!!!VERY IMPORTANT POST ABOUT THE PARTICIPANT COVID PROTOCOLS FOR OUR UPCOMING TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE TRIP!!!
I apologize for the length of this post in advance but please read the post and the attachments in their ENTIRETY! If you have questions after reading the post, please direct those to your director FIRST. If they don't know, they will then contact me, and if I don't know I will contact the Tournament. Please follow the chain of command for communication. Thanks in advance for your cooperation as all of this is very tedious and needs to be understood fully by each participant and the parent(s)/guardian of each participant.
The attached protocols come from the Tournament of Roses and ONLY affect the participants in the parade and NOT THE PARENTS!
You will find there are two options that student performers will fall into: Option 1 (vaccinated students) and Option 2 (non-vaccinated students). ALL STUDENTS regardless of vaccination status will still get to participate in the parade but different protocols must be followed based on a student's vaccination status.
Option #1 - vaccinated students - see page 4. These students will NOT be required to test while in Pasadena in order to participate in the parade. PROOF OF VACCINATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE TOURNAMENT NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 10TH. See explanation below about how that process will work.
Option #2 - non-vaccinated students - see page 5. Non-vaccinated students will be recommended to take two self tests before we depart for the trip on December 27th. These self tests should be administered within 36 hours of each other beginning on December 13th. If a student tests positive on a self test he/she can self isolate and complete the 10 day isolation period BEFORE we depart for the trip. ALL non-vaccinated students will be REQUIRED to take a clinical test (NO HOME TESTING FOR THIS ONE!) and get a negative result no more than 72 hours before our departure on December 27th. This will done in accordance with each individual school district's direction. We will share each district's plans to test as we hear of them. All superintendents have been made aware of these protocols but please give them a few days to come up with a plan. The Tournament of Roses parade will require a negative test no more than 72 hours before march in the parade. ALL NON-VACCINATED PARTICIPANTS WILL BE TESTED BY THE TOURNAMENT EITHER ON THE 29TH OR THE 30TH WHILE IN CALIFORNIA. All of the pre-testing is being done in every effort on our part to prevent a positive test while in California. Per the Rose Parade, these protocols MUST be strictly followed in order for your student to march in the parade on January 1st!
All participants and/or parent(s)/guardians will receive an email this week from the Tournament asking you to sign a waiver for your student to participate in the parade. The waiver I would assume would be electronic. We provided them with the email address that everyone had on file with PAC so make sure to check that email periodically this week to see if you have a waiver from the Tournament. I will send out a message when I receive mine. This should also be the access point for you to upload your vaccination card if you have been vaccinated to avoid being tested while in Pasadena. The absolute last day to upload a vaccination card for a participant will be December 10th. If not done by then, your student will be considered non-vaccinated and will have to go through the testing process. NO EXCEPTIONS PER THE TOURNAMENT ON THIS DEADLINE! You have to wait for your email from the Tournament BEFORE you can upload your vaccination information.
If you are planning to be vaccinated before the trip, you have between now and November 15th to start the process in order to be considered fully vaccinated for the trip and testing purposes.
Please understand these protocols are for THE PARADE ONLY and have nothing to do with the remainder of our trip! These are not our policies nor the Tournament's policies. These protocols come from the Department of Health of Los Angeles County and the City of Pasadena. We are staying in Orange County and the majority of our activities happen in Orange County which have much lighter restrictions than does Los Angeles County.
A NOTE TO THE PARENTS GOING ON THE TRIP: If you purchased grandstand seating for the parade and are not vaccinated, you will ALSO be REQUIRED to show a negative COVID test no more than 72 hours prior to your admission into the grandstands the day of the parade. We are still working out the details on this and will get back to you when we know what options will be available for you to test while in California.
I know this sounds like a lot but we hope we have done our due diligence to make this work as smoothly as possible. Remember if you have questions, please follow the chain of command mentioned at the beginning of this message and we'll try our best to get your question or concern answered in a timely manner.
Thanks for your support of this once in a lifetime opportunity for our great band students in Gibson County! We appreciate all of you!
