We had another GREAT REHEARSAL this past Tuesday! We covered letters G-Q. All students should continue practicing the beginning to letter !. Just remember “we will only be as good as our weakest link”, so encourage each student to practice, practice, practice!
· The 3rd and final June rehearsal will be Tuesday, June 25th from 6-9 p.m. Remember students are REQUIRED to attend at least 2 out of 3 June rehearsals to secure a spot in the Fall Show! We will cover letters Q-end next week.
· We will have solo auditions next week. Any student wishing to audition for a solo in the show MUST audition TUESDAY night!
· Students need to bring FIVE things with them to rehearsal next week:
1. All 5 forms from the summer mail out…COMPLETED! See http://gchsmarchingpioneers.org if you have lost or misplaced yours.
2. The first $35 band fee payment. We need to pay staff on Tuesday so make every attempt to get this turned in on time.
3. Peaches order form and money! Each student is asked to sell at least 5 trays of peaches. Make sure EVERYONE does his/her part to make this fundraiser a success!
4. Boston butt order form and money. This is an optional fundraiser but a great way to get some really good BBQ for July 4th!
5. Costumes!!! All costumes must be approved at Tuesday’s rehearsal or a costume will be chosen for your student. Make sure each student brings his/her costume with them Tuesdaynight. Remember, costumes must be able to be put on in less than 30 seconds. Nothing too complicated but we need costumes to be obvious enough that a judge in the press box can tell what each student is. The regular band pants will stay on. Only the jacket and hat will be removed.
· If a student is NOT going to be at this next rehearsal be sure these things are sent to rehearsal by another student/parent. No extension on these deadlines!
· Percussionists need to pay their $85 percussion fee or get 4 shirt sponsors by August 6.
· All color guard members need to bring in at least $60 of their guard fees to cover gloves and the uniform deposit.
· Trailer Sponsorships are ONLY $50 and are due by August. See website for the form.
· The Color Guard will sell homemade ice cream for the band at the Dyer Station Celebration Street Dance next Friday night-June 28!! We need you to make some HOMEMADE ICE CREAM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! The color guard mans this fundraiser but the funds go to the entire band. We will need the ice cream brought in a disposable container to their table set up behind the old Farmers and Merchants Bank between 6-6:30 p.m. If you can make ice cream, contact Susan Barker @susan.barker@wth.org so she will know you are coming!
· All students will receive July 4th parade music at next week’s rehearsal. WE NEED EVERY STUDENT WHO IS IN TOWN TO SHOW UP TO THE REHEARSAL AND THE PARADE(S) ON JULY 3RD AND JULY 4TH. We will rehearse July 3 from 9-11 a.m. in the band room (wear appropriate clothing to march-TENNIS SHOES ONLY). ONJULY 4-We will march in the Dyer parade @ 9 a.m. We will meet just across the railroad tracks behind the old Farmers and Merchants Bank @ 8:15 a.m. We typically march in the Kenton parade at 11 a.m. but we have not heard from them at this time. STUDENTS WILL WEAR KHAKI SHORTS (SCHOOL APPROPRIATE), WITH A RED, WHITE, OR BLUE TSHIRT (TUCKED IN) WITH TENNIS SHOES. Remember if students attend BOTH the rehearsal and the two parades, they will get lettering credit toward earning a letter in band for the 2013/14 school year. This is huge when applying for scholarships as a senior!
· We still need workers for FIREWORKS! Contact Kim Todd today if you haven’t signed up yet!
· Remember to promote the band’s Fireworks stand to your family and friends! The band receives all of the profits so ADVERTISE FOR US!!
· Just a reminder to make sure all students are spending some time outside so they are ready for camp! It’s going to be HOT so be sure your student is ready for it!!! We will work hard and need all students healthy and ready to give 100% all 5 days.
· http://www.wikihow.com/Survive-Band-Camp I read through this and it has some good pointers, reminders and suggestions…not all may apply to GC, but most of it is an echo of Mr. Tate’s instructions for you all!!! Read, learn and practice what they say….SL
