Thanks to each student who showed up for the rehearsal and both parades this week! A lot of compliments from community were sent our way! Thanks to each of the parents who helped out with water and/or chaperoning at the parade.
Thanks to all who volunteered and worked at the Firework's Stand this year. It was a much better year than last. We couldn't run the stand without your help! A BIG, BIG, THANK YOU TO KIM TODD for spending practically the last week and a half at the stand and making sure everyone was reminded of their work time.
Thanks to Robert Rahm and all of his helpers on Wednesday night/Thursday morning who helped him at the park with the Boston Butts. We pre-sold 47 butts. The crew cooked 90 and we were sold out by 9:30 a.m.!! Mr. Tate told Robert, Alan and the crew they are quickly becoming a legendary BBQ Cooking Team...Memphis next year??
The field is lined which means BAND CAMP STARTS MONDAY!!!
Guard and Percussion will have camp each day from 8:00-4:30 with lunch from 11:30-1:00. Remember--students may pack a lunch and eat in the gym or they may leave campus to buy food. Be sure you are fully aware of who your child will be riding with if he/she is leaving campus. No student is allowed to ride with another student without parent/guardian permission. Guard will be outside each day from 8-11:30and inside each afternoon from 1-4:30. Percussion will be outside Wednesday-Friday from 8-11:30 and should be inside the remainder of the time.
All Hornline members (everyone else) will start Fundamentals Camp on Wednesday from 8-11:30. We will meet in the band room and immediately head to the field and be outside until 11:30.
THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR CAMP-Get plenty of sleep the night before-your body will need it; EAT BREAKFAST every day (THIS IS A MUST)(you might want to avoid greasy foods and milk); Water or Gatorade to re-hydrate with during breaks. We will take a 10 minute break every 20-45 minutes so plan accordingly. We will have emergency water and Gatorade for those who run out; loose, cool clothing (stay away from dark colors that absorb the sun); TENNIS SHOES-anyone not wearing proper shoes goes home; snacks for break (grapes, oranges, crackers); pencil!!!; drill notebook (optional but HIGHLY recommended) and a string to tie it around your neck-won't need this until Friday; LAST BUT NOT LEAST-EVERYONE MUST BRING A GOOD ATTITUDE-EVERYONE WILL HAVE TO PUT FORTH 110% TO GET ALL DONE THAT WE HAVE AHEAD OF US!!!
Don't forget forms if you have not already sent them. A health form MUST be turned in BEFORE a student will be allowed to participate in camp!
Fees are DUE! $125 (band fee) is due the first day of camp, $60 guard fee is due before guard will receive their gloves, $85 percussion fee or 4 shirt sponsors are due by August 6. Please take care of these in a timely manner. If you are financially strapped and can only pay a portion of the fee-SOME IS BETTER THAN NONE! We have to pay the staff at the end of camp and we need your fees to do this so please take care of as soon as possible.
Trailer Sponsors are due by mid-August! They are only $50 and your name is on the truck for the entire year. Check the website to get a form (http://gchsmarchingpioneers.org).
Peaches will be delivered the week of July 15th. Date and time will be shared as soon as we receive it.
Mrs. Maureen Crews always does a great job of photographing the band throughout the year. She has started a new site for this year's photos. Check out the band's website (http://gchsmarchingpioneers.org) homepage (toward the bottom of the page) for the address. Check it regularly to see the great photos that she will take of your child this year!
