  • A BIG THANK YOU to all who helped in any way to help us pull off the 1st Annual Winter Guard competition this past Saturday! It was definitely a learning experience we can use to make it better if we host another in the future. As always, multiple people were complimentary to our hospitality and your willingness to help! Mr. Tate looked back at his first marching contest at GC in 2006. We had 11 bands and barely made any profit. Eight years later we are maxing our at 25 bands with a prelims/finals format. This is a true testament of the great organization we have in place! Maybe the winter guard show will become an annual event that will grow and flourish like our marching contest has over the past years. None of this would be possible without all of you and the great group of support we have at GC.

  • Hopefully everyone is enjoying their holiday today!

  • Percussion Ensemble will rehearse both Tuesday and Thursday this week from 5-7:30 in the band room. Check your schedule as to which group will be rehearsing this week! Contact Tico with any questions.

  • The 8th Grade Expo will be THIS WEDNESDAY at GCHS. This is the beginning of our recruiting process for the 14-15 band season. We have several band students speaking at this event. The biggest recruiting tool we have is by "word of mouth" as to what band means and has meant to you and your family. Please encourage any 8th graders who are interested in band/color guard in high school. Encourage them to try and there is a great chance they will love it!

  • We were lucky to have 12 students from GCHS chosen to participate in the 2014 UT Martin Honor Band to be held this Thursday-Saturday in Martin. These 12 students will need money for 5 meals ($5-$10 per meal) for the weekend. See the attached schedule for details of the weekend. Students will be expected to get his/her class work in advance (if possible) to make up for missing class on Friday. If others are looking for lettering credit for attending concerts, there will be a concert by the UTM Music Department Friday night at 7:30 and the Honor Band Concerts will begin Saturday at 1:00. Both are worth lettering credit and both are free and open to the public. Students will need a program to turn in to Mr. Tate with their name on the program to count.

  • Jazz Band rehearsals will resume NEXT MONDAY from 3:15-4:30 in the band room. Students were given a rehearsal schedule as to when they would be expected to be at rehearsal. Everyone does not meet at each rehearsal so check the schedule to know your rehearsal times.

  • We are less than a month away from our rooming list for Disney being due to Thomas Tours. Mr. Tate will take care of the band students signing up for their rooms but parents and other guests will need to let Thomas Tours know who is in their rooms. At this point, everyone should have paid at least $725 on their trip. Please contact Thomas Tours ASAP if you have not. The final payment of $150 is due by February 15! We will have a final meeting in early March with Thomas Tours for EVERYONE going on the trip. The date is still to be set.

  • We have our next Pep Band performance NEXT TUESDAY (1/28) as the basketball teams take on Union City at 6 p.m. Students will have to be seated in the band room with GC attire at 5:15. Students will be dismissed at halftime of the boys' game.

  • Our annual Stew Lunch will be Saturday, February 8 at the Central Fire Station in Spring Hill. Details will be coming soon for this event but go ahead and mark it on your calendars! We will need items donated for the stew, desserts, and tea. Amy Thornton will contact you soon as to how you can help/donate!

  • Have a great week!
