We had multiple compliments on the Pep Band's performance at last week's Union City game! A big THANK YOU to all the band students for playing at both the girls and boys games and all you parents who came out to support both the band and basketball teams!
Fantastic job by the Drum Line who represented the GCHS Band this past Saturday night at the Lights, Camera, Fashion Show that was held at the Civic Center in Jackson. The battery was the opening act for the show! A big THANK YOU to Tico and all the students involved in putting this performance together in just under two weeks!
CONGRATULATIONS to Jessamy Moore, Logan Bates, Kelly Landrum, Kari Howard, Logan Rahm, Zach Baker, Kaitlyn Kyle, Lexi Whitley, Taylor Pannell, Claire Buchanan and Melanie Spain for being selected to represent the GCHS band at the 23rd Annual University of Memphis Honor Band Clinic to be held February 13-15 on the U of M campus. They will receive more details this week as to an itinerary and hotel costs. All student concerts will take place on Saturday, February 15 in Memphis. All students will need a ride home from the concerts.
Jazz Band (rhythm section ONLY) will rehearse TOMORROW from 3:15-4:30 (band room).
Percussion Ensemble will rehearse BOTH TUESDAY AND THURSDAY this week from 5-7:30 in the band room.
We will choose solos for Solo & Ensemble THIS WEEK during class! Solo & Ensemble is not mandatory but is a good way for your student to be exposed to playing by themselves. Remember S&E is worth lettering credit for anyone who plays a solor and receives a I (Superior) rating. Students can also participate in ensembles (duets, trios, quartets, etc.). For every event a student enters, there is a $10 registration fee. Solo & Ensemble will be held Saturday, March 8 at Jackson Northside HS. We will take a bus or students can get there on their own. Students will be expected to prepare their solos, for the most part, on their own unless they come to one of the directors with a specific question. Directors will listen to the pieces the week before the festival to make sure they are prepared in the way they should be. Please encourage your student to sign-up for this opportunity!
Our next Band Booster meeting will be NEXT MONDAY NIGHT (10th) @ 7 p.m. in the band room. Make plans to attend!
The final Disney Trip payment is due to Thomas Tours no later than Saturday, February 15. All parent rooming request MUST be submitted at this time as well or you will be assigned a room at random. Please contact Thomas Tours (800-292-0470) for any payment arrangements.
Our annual Stew Lunch will be held this Saturday at the Central Fire Station from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.! Check out the attached flyer for more details. We need your help!!!
Students will be asked to help set-up, serve, and clean-up from 10:30-1:30. Mr. Tate will ask for volunteers first, so please encourage your students to volunteer. It is not much of a band fundraiser when we don't have a lot of band students present to help represent!
We also need parent workers Friday night at 5:00 and Saturday at 9:00. Let Amy know if you can help!
