5/30 8th Grade Graduation 6-730
5/31 Last Day of School - 11:30am Dismissal (11:20am 3k & 4k)
Dear St. Rita Families,
As we close the chapter on this school year, I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who has made this year memorable and successful, especially to all the staff and parents who played a role in organizing and executing our graduation events. Your work ensured that our celebrations were beautiful and meaningful. The 8th-grade graduation was a poignant and joyous occasion, and it wouldn’t have been possible without many helping hands.
We also owe a big thank you to the Zivnuska Family for their generous donation of the shaved ice truck at this year's Festa St. Rita. Your kindness added a special touch to the event, and the students thoroughly enjoyed the delicious treat.
This year, we bid farewell to three of our teachers: Mr. Hinkle, Mr. Schwaiger, and Ms. Brefka. Ms. Poehlmann is also retiring from her position as an Educational Assistant. Each has left a mark on our school community through their dedication and love for children. We wish them the best in their future endeavors and hope they know they will always be a part of the St. Rita family.
While goodbyes are always difficult, we are also excited to welcome new staff members to our school this summer. Ms. Kearsten Miller will be our new music teacher, and we welcome Ms. Marissa Zierl from St. Matthew’s school to be our new 5th grade teacher. We are also in the process of hiring a new P.E. teacher, whom we will share with St. Joseph’s school next year. We are confident our new staff will bring fresh perspectives, new ideas, and a shared commitment to our mission of living, loving, and learning our faith.
To our departing 8th grade class, I want to extend a special farewell. Your maturity and self-assuredness shone brightly during your speeches and parts in the graduation mass. You have been leaders for our younger students, and we are incredibly proud of you. As you begin your next journey, carry with you the lessons and values you've learned here at St. Rita.
As we enter the summer break, my hope for all our students is that they have a safe, fun, and restful time. Summer is a wonderful opportunity to explore new interests, spend time with family, and recharge for the upcoming school year. We look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces in the fall, refreshed and ready for new adventures in learning.
Thank you once again for your support and for being a part of the St. Rita community. Have a blessed summer!
Warm regards,
Beth Woodward

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We are in need of volunteers to help with lunch supervision between 11-12. Please email bwoodward@sienacatholicschools.org if you are interested in helping, even one day per week.
Many helping hands build community and lightens the work load.
In addition to day-to-day activities, we are always open to new members and ideas for our Royal Parent Student Association. This is a parent-led volunteer organization that organizes recognition and fun activities as well as supports the school’s need for extra hands in a variety of ways.

The Scottish term hurkle durkle might be new to you, but you probably have done it before.
Picture this: It's Saturday. As you wake up to start the day, you decide to lounge in bed for a while basking in the comfortable, cozy and peaceful space. Perhaps you drift off to sleep again and doze for a few minutes. That's hurkle-durkling.
The Dictionaries of the Scots Language defines, to hurkle-durkle as "to lie in bed or lounge about when one should be up and about." They note that this is exclusive to waking in the morning, not just at any point of the day.
While this term may be funny to say, the health benefits are nothing to laugh at. Some studies have shown that sleeping in on the weekends, even as little as two hours, could help decrease chances of heart attack or stroke by 63%. Additionally, other research found that getting a few more minutes of sleep after hitting the snooze button on your alarm clock could actually help deep sleepers wake up, and upon waking, were more alert despite the interruption.
Hurkle-durkling doesn't seem quite so silly now does it? Give it a try this weekend by hitting that snooze button!
This was one of my favorite projects this year. Thanks to this creative and competitive sixth grade class, we were able to play some fun games with the catapults they built.
