October 14 SOLES WALK FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION/ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
Hello St. Rita Parents and Students,
Thank you all for your patience as we went through multiple heat waves the last few weeks. The transition back to school has been an adjustment for students and adults alike. Meeting new people, learning new routines, and thinking of how our actions impact others is all part growing up. My own sons had a few extra weeks of sleeping late and are now begrudgingly joining their classmates in a new school year. The St. Rita teachers have been keeping their routines and pushing the students to expand their thinking, even while dealing with weather challenges.
We have a couple of events this upcoming week. There will be a fire drill on Tuesday, and Friday is our "count day." All students may come out of uniform on Friday, Sept. 15th. The class(es) with the highest attendance will have an ice cream party in the afternoon. Next weekend our welcome back mass will be on the 17th. Any child who attends the welcome back mass in their school uniform will receive an OOU passes (they must send a picture of themselves at church to their homeroom teacher).
I'm looking forward to meeting more families at the Catholic Schools walk on Oct. 14th and at our fall festival at the end of October. Many families braved the heat to join the RPSA's parent night on the 5th - it was wonderful to meet parents and make connections! Please watch your email for upcoming information about the walk and associated fundraisers.
Please continue to reach out to your child's teacher with individual concerns. St. Rita teachers go above and beyond for their students! Teachers have been posting class announcements in Class Dojo, which is a good way to send a quick note when needed if you need information.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Warmly,
Beth Woodward

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We are in need of volunteers to help with lunch supervision between 11-12, especially on Thursdays. Please email bwoodward@sienacatholicschools.org if you are interested in helping, even one day per week.
Many helping hands build community and lightens the work load.
In addition to day-to-day activities, we are always open to new members and ideas for our Royal Parent Student Association. This is a parent-led volunteer organization that organizes recognition and fun activities as well as supports the school’s need for extra hands in a variety of ways.
SAFEGUARDING ALL OF GOD’S FAMILY
Safeguarding program and background check MUST be completed before you can volunteer at school or chaperone any school event or field trip.
There will be a safeguarding class offered at St. Rita's on September 7th - please email Rachel Kroes for more information.
Blessings,
Beth Woodward

Watch for your child's Star Test Reports to come home today. Star Assessments are computer-adaptive tests (CATs) for pre-K—12 students that measure reading, math, and early literacy skills. The teacher can then use the assessment results to monitor student progress and inform teaching. The test is administered 3 times a year (fall, spring, and winter). The report coming home summarizes your child's scores on the test. As with any test, many factors can affect a student's scores. It is important to understand that these test scores provide only one picture of how your child is doing in school. The reports are yours to keep. They do not have to be signed and returned to school. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
Students may be Out of Uniform (OOU) on Friday, September 15. They may dress in casual school clothing, their style as long as they follow the OOU rules on pages 56-57 in the Student/Staff/Family Handbook. This Handbook is also in this newsletter as a quick reference. Please note crocs are not an acceptable item for school on OOU days and/or Uniform Days. Please reference the Handbook for a review of OOU days and expectations (check inseam length).
Everyone who is at attendance all day will receive an OOU pass to be used on Monday, September 18. (Students will only receive the pass if they stay all day, passes will be given at the end of Friday.)
The class with the best attendance will get an ice cream Party that afternoon.
Please join us in celebrating the start of a new school year!
