Greetings,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful Holiday break and enjoyed time spent with family and friends. As they say, from resolutions to bucket lists, I do hope you can check many of them off your list this year. It is a new year filled with possibilities, so dream big and believe in yourself. Cheers to new beginnings!
We are off to a great start, a short week, but much happening. The students settled right back into learning and we are very proud of their continued student learning efforts.
Please take a moment to review the key dates.
We are hoping for some snow! I know the students are super excited to build snowman, forts and good ole fashion snow fun!
Please mark your calendar for the first Thursday of each month. We would love to see you at Mass. In addition, Catholic Schools Week is right around the corner. If you are wondering what CSW is, please continue reading. This is a great way to celebrate and promote our strong Catholic schools.
National Catholic Schools Week is held for seven days, starting from the last Sunday in January. Aside from its promotion of education, it’s also a great opportunity to recognize the value, principles, and contributions that the Catholic schools have relayed to the Church and every citizen for decades. Showcasing what makes Catholic schools the best for every parent, family, and child is the priority for conducting Catholic Schools Week.
What usually happens during National Catholic Schools Week is the observance of catholic masses, assemblies, open houses, seminars, and many other activities for every family, parishioner, and community member. The quality and distinction of Catholic schools can be seen through these, especially for the young, those who will attend and enter school.
The first Catholic school that opened in the United State was called St. Mary’s School in Philadelphia, in 1783. After some time, the enthusiasm and curiosity for Catholic education grew and the nation noticed a massive inflow of Catholics from all over the world. By the 1920s, more than 6,000 Catholic elementary schools accepted and enrolled almost two million students and employed 42,000 teachers. By the latter half of that century, enrollment grew, even more, reaching double the number of students. Ever since Catholic schools have been widely perceived and established as a viable means of education.
We will be hosting our CSW Open House on Tuesday, January 31 from 5-7PM. Please bring a family friend and come check us out! You will not be disappointed. We are looking forward to new families joining us and parish community members. Please stop by!
Blessings,
Dr. Sue

A mantra is a statement you repeat to yourself. It is conscious programming. We live in a society where we are bombarded in the open and covertly in the interests of profit or power. Don’t let your mind run on autopilot. Take the wheel and write your own mantra to repeat daily. Design a statement that embodies what you want to be.
“I am the revolution of love.”
Altar Servers for Thursday Mass were Madison and Porter. The eighth grade class led Mass this week.

In rainy or subzero weather, students need appropriate outerwear. Students are outdoors several times a day. A hooded sweatshirt for example is not as adequate as a winter jacket. If the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees or below, wind chill factor of “zero” degrees or below, hard rain or blizzard like conditions, recess is most likely to be indoors. The decision is up to the Principal and at times in collaboration with supervisory staff. While outside, if any playground supervisor determines that the weather is too severe for outdoor recess (as our weather changes often), the outdoor supervisor is authorized to bring the students inside.
As we approach the cooler weather, we know in WI things can change quickly, in the event RUSD closes schools for weather, Siena follows suit. No one with the possible exception of maintenance is expected to report to work. Staff will receive an all users communication from Siena/Ms. Kimberly Gardner.
Current Handbook Language we will follow:
The school will be closed including CARES supervision, on days when Racine Unified School District is closed. Closings are announced over local radio (WISN 1130, WTMJ 620 / 94.5, WRJN 1400), television (FOX 6, TMJ4, CBS58, WISN 12), and their media websites. Parents will not hear our school name announced on public media unless there are specific circumstances affecting only our school or only all Catholic schools.
School closings will be announced in the media as Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. Staff will receive an email from Ms. Kimberly Gardner. Rarely used, but if a delayed start is announced for Racine Unified School District, St. Rita will follow the same schedule and delay the start to the day.
Parents may use their own discretion to decide whether to keep their children at home for safety. This absence will be recorded as an excused absence.
