Dear St. Rita Families,
I hope this letter finds you well, filled with the blessings of this Lenten season. As we embark on this sacred journey, I am pleased to share some highlights and updates from our school community.
Lenten Prayer Service on Ash Wednesday:
Our Ash Wednesday prayer service was truly a moving opportunity for our students and staff to come together and begin the season of Lent with reflection, prayer, and a deepened sense of commitment to our faith. I am delighted to report that we were able to share this meaningful experience with the parish of St. Rita's in a prayer service at the church, fostering a sense of unity and community within our broader Catholic family.
American Heart Association Fundraiser:
As we approach the end of our American Heart Association fundraiser this Friday, I want to express my gratitude for your generous support. Your contributions support the research and initiatives that the American Heart Association undertakes to combat cardiovascular diseases. We will conclude our fundraiser with a “Heartfulness” walk on Friday morning, so please send your child with boots or old shoes that can get a little muddy.
Upcoming Field Trips:
Exciting opportunities for our students lie ahead with upcoming field trips. We have visits to SC Johnson and St. Catherine's High School for the 5th and 7th grades respectively. These experiences will not only enhance their learning but also expose them to real-world applications of their studies. Please make sure your child has returned his/her permission slips for these events!
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
I would like to extend my thanks to all parents and guardians who attended the recent parent-teacher conferences. Your engagement and collaboration with our dedicated faculty are integral to the success of our students. The partnership between home and school vital, and I appreciate your commitment to your child's education.
As we continue through the Lenten season and look forward to these upcoming events, I am filled with gratitude for the sense of community that defines St. Rita’s. Your ongoing support and active involvement contribute to the nurturing and holistic education we strive to provide for every student.
May this Lent be a time of spiritual growth and renewal for you and your family. Thank you for being valued members of our St. Rita community.
Blessings,
Beth Woodward

Abstracts and sketchbook work today. The persistence and creativity being displayed while working on the abstract project is impressive!
This month in February every grade has been celebrating Black history month. We have been learning about Black musical artists, by hearing about their lives and listening and moving to their songs.
We have also been preparing and learning about Lent by singing, “Glory and Praise,” and have had discussions about why we do not sing the Alleluia during that time period.
In K5 and 1st grade, students are learning about high, low, and repeated pitches with the songs “I’m a Superhero,” along with others.
2nd grade students have been working hard reading rhythms, and will begin reading pitches soon. We have begun this process by playing “The Legend of Tim Po” on xylophones, and various percussion instruments.
3rd and 4th grade students have just completed their brass instrument unit. They had the opportunity to see and hear a trumpet and a trombone in person, and explored many other instruments. We are now moving on to woodwind instruments, and I get to bring my clarinet for the students to hear!
5th grade students have been learning about sixteenth notes, and will continue to work on counting and play them. In addition to this, we are beginning to work on harmonizing.
6th, 7th, and 8th graders have been traveling through the decades of popular music, and will continue until we reach the 2010’s. We have been discussing why people from certain time periods liked the music that was popular and have talked about the meaning of some songs.
In addition to this, the seventh graders have been excelling at guitar, the 8th graders have been playing and composing their own rhythms on bucket drums, and the sixth graders have recently begun a keyboard unit.
7th grade met their K4 buddies for the first time for Ash Wednesday

The chocolate bars sell for $2.00 each and we earn a 50% profit on all chocolates sold. Please only order what you have sold or what you intend to sell.
