Greetings,
Wow! What an awesome day this past Wednesday. The snow was so welcoming and refreshing. The students had a super fun making snow angels, trying to see who could roll the biggest snowball, playing football and kickball all the while trying to sneak in a snowball throwing contest! Hopefully enough will be left this weekend to go ice skating and sledding as outdoor fun! All of these tie into our Healthy Heart Kick-Off!
Our student athletes are bringing home great trophies. They are playing well and glad to see and hear such school spirit! Go Royals.
We are so excited for Catholic Schools Week. We are looking forward to celebrating our Catholic Identity as a school community. I do want to thank the many individuals for their assistance in planning and preparing for a full week of wonderful events. A personal THANK YOU to all St. Rita's staff, Royal Parent Student Association, individual families for donations, Siena' enrollment team and last but not least our new Royal Ambassadors who under the direction of Ms. Stephanie Folk and Coach Bodi have been trained to assist with tours and much much more. Please join us Tuesday, January 31 from 5-7PM.
Did you know it is Rory's BIRTHDAY on January 28? He is 21 years old! The students sang Happy Birthday to him at lunch and he handed out treats.
Stay healthy and warm!
Blessings,
Dr. Sue

Cross-pollination is a technique used by Gregor Mendel to control pollination. To do this Mendel would remove the stamens from a flower with a trait he was studying. He would then transfer the pollen from the stamens to the pistol of another flower. Our Life Science classes are studying genetics and the effects of crossing traits. They are learning about dominant and recessive traits in humans, animals, and plants.
Can you roll your tongue?
Do you have attached earlobes?
The student are having fun identifying dominant and recessive traits that makes us all unique!
Our 8th graders had a good time participating in a blind taste test reviewing their experimental skills.
Our overall conclusion??
The higher priced water did not taste any different than the lower cost water.
Altar Servers for Thursday Mass were Mona and Porter in 4th grade. Fourth Grade class led Mass this week.
Kindness is more infectious than hate. When we are young it can be easier to be kind but also easy to follow the crowd even if the crowd is cruel. Don’t be tempted to follow others just to be accepted. Follow your heart and be committed to kindness. In time others will follow you.

We are very excited to bring back Kids Healthy Heart Challenge to St. Rita's. We are partnering with St. Lucy's. Our goal is to re-introduce this to our students, staff and families. We will have a kick off on January 30 for the students. Our goal is to have at least 100 families register and 18 families take the Finn's Challenge. More details to come but this is just to get us thinking about being active and eating healthy to keep our HEARTS in shape.
For more than 45 years, the American Heart Association has been making a difference with our Kids Heart Challenge. In this video, you’ll hear from a former participant, current coordinators and school administrators about the impact of this important program. Here is the link:

The American Heart Association is partners with schools across the country to create a community of lifesavers who recognize the warning signs & symptoms and know how to react in an emergency situation. They have set an aggressive goal of introducing 1.8 million families to Hands Only CPR. With your help - we will help crush that goal!
Hello all St. Rita Families,

Therefore, starting Monday, January 23 the new procedures for drop off and pick up are:

No one will be allowed to enter the main areas of the building.

Staff will assist students with their belongings.
PICK UP

Parents/guardians will not be allowed to enter the building.

The St. Rita Dinner Club is a great way to meet new people from church and school while also getting better acquainted with those you already know.
12-14 adults are grouped together and dine out at various medium priced restaurants. There are group leaders who will coordinate and communicate the dates of the gatherings once a month. Perfect for Date Night! Our first dinner gathering will be in February.
This is a very flexible club…just come when you can!

In rainy or subzero weather, students need appropriate outerwear. Students are outdoors several times a day. A hooded sweatshirt for example is not as adequate as a winter jacket. If the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees or below, wind chill factor of “zero” degrees or below, hard rain or blizzard like conditions, recess is most likely to be indoors. The decision is up to the Principal and at times in collaboration with supervisory staff. While outside, if any playground supervisor determines that the weather is too severe for outdoor recess (as our weather changes often), the outdoor supervisor is authorized to bring the students inside.
As we approach the cooler weather, we know in WI things can change quickly, in the event RUSD closes schools for weather, Siena follows suit. No one with the possible exception of maintenance is expected to report to work. Staff will receive an all users communication from Siena/Ms. Kimberly Gardner.
Current Handbook Language we will follow:
The school will be closed including CARES supervision, on days when Racine Unified School District is closed. Closings are announced over local radio (WISN 1130, WTMJ 620 / 94.5, WRJN 1400), television (FOX 6, TMJ4, CBS58, WISN 12), and their media websites. Parents will not hear our school name announced on public media unless there are specific circumstances affecting only our school or only all Catholic schools.
School closings will be announced in the media as Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. Staff will receive an email from Ms. Kimberly Gardner. Rarely used, but if a delayed start is announced for Racine Unified School District, St. Rita will follow the same schedule and delay the start to the day.
Parents may use their own discretion to decide whether to keep their children at home for safety. This absence will be recorded as an excused absence.
