Dear St. Rita Catholic School Community,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and filled with the joy of the Easter season. As we continue to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, I am pleased to share some updates and important information from our beloved school.
I am thrilled to announce that we successfully completed our recent tornado drill with efficiency and effectiveness. The safety and security of our students and staff are paramount, and it was wonderful to see the whole school take part quickly and safely.
Additionally, I want to extend my appreciation to our dedicated educators and diligent students as we near the completion of our Forward testing. We appreciate your hard work and commitment to academic excellence.
As we approach the end of the school year, our 8th-grade students will embark on their retreat next Thursday, April 18th. This retreat offers a valuable opportunity for reflection, spiritual growth, and bonding as they prepare to transition to the next chapter of their academic journey.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming All-Siena Spelling Bee on Wednesday, April 17th, where we will proudly send our top competitors to showcase their linguistic talents. Let us show our support and encouragement to our participants as they represent St. Rita’s with pride!
Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming spring concerts scheduled for May 2nd. Our students have been diligently rehearsing, and I am confident that they will deliver performances that will captivate and inspire us all. Please look for information from Ms. Brefka about specifics.
In line with our commitment to providing enriching experiences for our students, I am pleased to announce that our 4th and 5th-grade students will be embarking on a field trip to the Racine Theater Guild on April 17th. This promises to be an educational and entertaining outing for our students, and I thank our teachers for organizing this enriching experience.
As the weather warms, I would like to remind our students and parents that while we appreciate the joys of springtime, we must continue to uphold our standards for modest dress. We also require students to wear tennis/athletic shoes to school (not uggs, fashion shoes, jelly shoes, slides, crocs, etc.). As outlined in our handbook, please ensure that clothing adheres to our guidelines, including Lloyd plaid or Plaid 49 skirts or jumpers, tan pants, shorts, or pleated skirts, with appropriate length and style. Let us continue to foster an environment of respect and dignity in all aspects of our school community.
In conclusion, let us carry the spirit of Easter with us as we embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. May the joy of the resurrection fill our hearts with hope and renewal.
Blessings to you all,
Beth Woodward

Many helping hands build community and lightens the work load.
In addition to day-to-day activities, we are always open to new members and ideas for our Royal Parent Student Association. This is a parent-led volunteer organization that organizes recognition and fun activities as well as supports the school’s need for extra hands in a variety of ways.
SAFEGUARDING ALL OF GOD’S FAMILY

History of the Peace Circle
When students are sent to me or seek me out to resolve a conflict with a peer, I almost always offer a Peace Circle, also known to be called “Restorative Justice” or “Peacemaking Circle”. It originates from Native American culture, has been used in Canada to avoid going to court for a small claims dispute and has more recently been used in some communities and schools in the United States. It is an opportunity to empower the offended and create a plan for the future to avoid further offense. The results are found to be more often effective than punishment with no participation by the offended. In the next newsletter you will learn the simple language and rules of a circle that you can even use at home.
Sunday, March 3rd was a hot rivalry between the Milwaukee Ads and the Iowa Wild . Thanks to local businessman, Peter Bartell, our 7th grade class and chaperones were on the glass to see this amazing game and experience hockey…most for the first time!!
Our 7th grade class has been talking about going to a game for over a year and when I mentioned this to Peter, within a week he had organized and donated tickets for us..
Peter and Hollie Bartell are owners of Versi-Foam Systems (rrhfoamsystems.com) which is a spray foam system for homes. He is a long-time hockey fan and the proud father of college hockey goalie, Austin Bartell.
Thanks Peter and Hollie for making this experience memorable!!
Thursday night our Athletic Committee, lead by our athletic director, Tom Ferguson, hosted all families involved in sports this year. Not only was there great food…and a large amount of it, but the committee provided prizes and awards. The teams were introduced and each sport’s coach gave an overview of the season.
Thank you to our committee members, coaches, and parents for their hard work making this season a success for all athletes.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee recognizes April 21st–April 27th as Safe Environment Awareness Week. Each year in the month of April, which is recognized around the country as child abuse prevention month, we dedicate a week to elevating the general awareness of the Church’s efforts to keep our children safe. We want people to know that we are committed to maintaining safe environments in our parishes and schools through adult child abuse prevention training; criminal background checks for all clergy, volunteers working with minors, and employees; safety training for children in each grade level; and adhering to all mandatory reporting requirement laws.

To celebrate Earth Day on Monday, April 22, the Tablesetters service group at St Rita will be hosting an Earth Friendly Lunch. Pope Francis reminds us that “We must protect creation for it is a gift which the Lord has given us, it is God’s present to us; we are the guardians of creation.” Please help us care for God’s creation by helping your child pack a lunch that causes as little impact to the Earth as possible. Some things you might consider trying are: reusable containers, a reusable lunch bag, cloth napkins, organic produce, or reusable silverware. Please use this as an opportunity to discuss caring for creation with your child. If your child plans to take hot lunch that day, we will talk about properly disposing of trash and compostable material. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with our efforts to care for God’s beautiful creation.
Your family is invited to join St. Rita parishioners on Saturday, May 25 at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans’ Cemetery near Union Grove to help place flags on the graves of service men and women. This is a very moving experience and appropriate for volunteers of all ages. Please arrive at the cemetery (21731 Spring St, Union Grove, WI 53182) between 7:30 - 8:00 AM and look for our St. Rita group. A brief demonstration on proper flag placement will be given.
The Ronald McDonald house of Eastern Wisconsin aims to keep families together and promote the health and well-being of children. The St. Rita Tablesetters will be collecting can tabs for the Ronald McDonald house until the end of May. The funds generated go to directly support the children and families staying at Ronald McDonald House. Please send in your can tabs!
