Dear St. Rita Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and filled with the blessings of the Lenten season. As we embark on this period of reflection, prayer, and self-examination, it is my hope that our school community will grow stronger in faith and unity.
Lent
Lent is a sacred time for us to journey together towards a deeper connection with our faith. It is an opportunity to reflect on our actions, make amends, and draw closer to God. This year, we are excited to announce that Father Pat will be facilitating reconciliation sessions right here at the school. This offers a convenient and meaningful way for our students and families to participate in this sacrament and experience spiritual renewal. More details will be provided in the coming weeks, and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity for spiritual growth.
State Capitol
Exciting times are ahead for our 3rd and 4th-grade students as we gear up for an educational adventure to the state capitol! This trip, scheduled for Monday, February 26th, promises to be a valuable and engaging experience that aligns with our commitment to providing enriching opportunities for our students. During the visit, our learners will have the unique chance to explore the rich history and civic significance of our state government. We believe this experience will not only enhance their understanding of civics but also inspire a sense of pride and curiosity about our state and our democracy.
Literacy
Siena is committed to providing an excellent education that encompasses current research in reading instruction. To this end, our dedicated faculty is engaged in ongoing professional development to enhance our literacy practices. We are excited about the progress we have made and the positive impact it will have on our students' learning experiences. This week, our teachers will have time again to work with a consultant to co-plan targeted small group experiences. As we continue this journey, we look forward to sharing more insights and successes with you.
Forward testing
Forward testing (statewide testing) for our students is scheduled to commence the week prior to spring break. This standardized assessment allows us to track progress, adjust instruction, and ensure the success of every student. To support your child during this period, we invite you to share a letter of encouragement. Your words of support can have a powerful impact on their confidence and motivation. Please take a moment to send in a heartfelt note, expressing your belief in their abilities and encouraging them to approach the testing with a positive mindset. These letters can be dropped off at the front office or emailed to classroom teachers by March 20th. We appreciate your partnership in creating a nurturing environment for our students and helping them feel motivated and ready to excel during the upcoming Forward testing.
American Heart Association
We are grateful to the families who supported our recent American Heart Association fundraiser. The generosity displayed by our school community during the fundraiser and the enthusiasm during the "Heartfulness Walk" was heartwarming. Together, we have not only raised awareness about heart health but also contributed significantly to this important cause. Your commitment to making a positive impact is inspiring, and we are proud to be part of such a caring and compassionate community.
As we move forward into the remainder of the school year, let us carry the spirit of Lent in our hearts, continue to support each other in our academic pursuits, and always be mindful of the positive impact we can make in the lives of others.
Wishing you all a reflective and blessed Lenten season.
In Faith and Gratitude,
Beth Woodward

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We are in need of volunteers to help with lunch supervision between 11-12. Please email bwoodward@sienacatholicschools.org if you are interested in helping, even one day per week.
Many helping hands build community and lightens the work load.
In addition to day-to-day activities, we are always open to new members and ideas for our Royal Parent Student Association. This is a parent-led volunteer organization that organizes recognition and fun activities as well as supports the school’s need for extra hands in a variety of ways.
SAFEGUARDING ALL OF GOD’S FAMILY
Safeguarding program and background check MUST be completed before you can volunteer at school or chaperone any school event or field trip.
Heartfulness Club members have earned a certificate as a level one Peace Mentor. They have been trained in the steps of a restorative justice method to help others resolve disagreements.
The 3rd grade participants have performed role plays of a peace circle, passed a written assessment and currently are completing hours with Coach Bodi in running a circle.
Given their continued progress, they may reach level two within the next year, which would allow them to run a circle in the presence of any staff member.
Reminder: There is no Heartfulness Club this Monday.
Thank you to Mrs. Grandke and Dr. Rodriguez for helping our Kindergartens learn about how to keep our teeth healthy!
Second-grade students reach 100,000 IXL questions! Students have worked hard this year on IXL and the results on Star Testing show that IXL skills help solidify the curriculum in second grade!
