Hello St. Rita Parents and Students,
Thank you so much for a great first week! We certainly had weather challenges, but we made the best of our time together. Father Michael graciously provided tables and chairs in the church during the heat wave so we could cool off while learning there as well. I saw middle schoolers helping the younger students get adjusted and new friends connecting with each other this week. The teachers have great routines going with their students already!
Please reinforce with your children the dress code - skirt length should be 2" above the knee or longer. I apologize for any miscommunication around this with the middle schoolers; we will be asking them to change if skirts are too short moving forward.
Our STAR testing begins this coming week. These are known as the STAR assessment. The link below will provide you the information you may need if you are interested in learning more about this assessment. Overall, we utilize this assessment to better understand where each student is at in reading and math in order to determine each child's appropriate instructional level. Teachers may differentiate instruction in order to meet students where they are at and to help them grow in skills they need to increase their learning.
All St Rita's parents and guardians are invited to join us on Tuesday, September 5th to meet me and our various school leaders. Information will be presented on all aspects of the St. Rita's school community, including school expectations, extracurricular clubs and groups, athletics, our fundraising walk, how to get involved, and more. Parents only, please. Some child care will be available for those ages 3-10, but space is limited so RSVP will be required - the parent association will send out a sign up link for childcare next week.
I am impressed by the level of care and attention the St. Rita staff provide for all the students here. Please continue to reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns - they are extremely dedicated to your children and will work with you to find new solutions or ideas when necessary.
Here are a couple of repeat items from last week:
ST RITA SCHOOL FACEBOOK PAGE
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We are in need of volunteers to help with lunch supervision between 11-12, especially on Thursdays. Please email bwoodward@sienacatholicschools.org if you are interested in helping, even one day per week.
Many helping hands build community and lightens the work load. More information regarding the variety of volunteer opportunities and needs will be shared as the year progresses.
In addition to day-to-day activities, we are always open to new members and ideas for our Royal Parent Student Association. This is a parent-led volunteer organization that organizes recognition and fun activities as well as supports the school’s need for extra hands in a variety of ways.
SAFEGUARDING ALL OF GOD’S FAMILY
Safeguarding program and background check MUST be completed before you can volunteer at school or chaperone any school event or field trip.
There will be a safeguarding class offered at St. Rita's on September 7th - please email Rachel Kroes for more information.
Blessings,
Beth Woodward
