Dear Parents/Guardians,
Greetings,
Wow, we have now turned the corner and are heading into the most joyous Holiday Season-Christmas! What a great time of year. I love seeing the joy in the faces of all our students during this season.
Each week, the students and staff are celebrating the "arrival" of our Savior by experiencing an Advent Prayer Service. Advent is the season of reflective preparation for the Nativity of Christ at Christmas. The season of Advent comprises four Sundays leading up to December 24. Did you know that “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming.” This is tied to the coming of Christ!
During our Advent prayer service, each grade level is involved in the planning and presentation for the prayer service. This past week we were led by our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in learning about the Jesse Tree. Hope you had a chance to check out the video on our FB page. Finally, Advent is marked by a spirit of expectations, of anticipation, of preparation and of longing. Please take a moment to enjoy the season before it passes by.
A big thank you to all of the groups providing love, care and support for others. We have a great community and your giving of items for all of our Christmas community service projects have been so generous! The 8th graders will be wrapping over 100 presents!
Mark your calendar for our Christmas Concert on December 15. The times are noted in the key dates section. Watch for student OOU dates and much, much more!
During this season, we would like to say thank you:
For all of your tireless efforts in supporting your child's learning.
For being beside your child during his/her faith journey as some begin to receive their sacraments.
For sitting beside them when stuck doing any homework or life-learning lesson.
For those that are able to volunteer to make St. Rita's a better place.
For those out in our community that have provided donations.
For those who have contributed to all of our community giving drives.
For all the students who make us smile, warm our hearts and focus on their learning!
We are looking forward to the continued learning while enjoying all of the Christmas Spirit that is to come.
Blessings,
Dr. Sue

No “no’s”
Catch yourself saying “no, never, shouldn’t, couldn't, wouldn’t, can’t, won’t and not”. Flip and reverse your inner language to “yes, sometimes, can, will, would, could, always, should and maybe”. This will allow your brain to search for all possibilities, outcomes and solutions instead of excluding.

First grade is learning about the use of Informative Writing to do research. We all learned about yaks. We learned what a yak looks like, their habitat, what they eat and how they help people.
We are working on adding numbers up to 20 right now.
We are practicing our lines for our Advent service in the gym next week.
In music, they are practicing their songs for the Christmas recital on December 15. Please try to attend if you can!
Thursday, they worked with their 8th grade buddies on praying hands. We love our 8th grade buddies! Thank you, Mr. Hinkle and 8th graders!
Back in November, first grade made cards for Veterans. They also made Thanksgiving cards and colored tablecloths for the folks at St. Monica's. They were very excited to receive the items.
Wishing you a blessed Christmas,

This can be a very busy time for all of us.
St. Francis de Sales reminds us that "Half an hour's meditation each day is essential, except when you are busy. Then a full hour is needed."
Come spend the Sundays of Advent with the Lord.
Children's Liturgy will be offered at the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, December 4, 11 and 18.
In rainy or subzero weather, students need appropriate outerwear. Students are outdoors several times a day. A hooded sweatshirt for example is not as adequate as a winter jacket. If the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees or below, wind chill factor of “zero” degrees or below, hard rain or blizzard like conditions, recess is most likely to be indoors. The decision is up to the Principal and at times in collaboration with supervisory staff. While outside, if any playground supervisor determines that the weather is too severe for outdoor recess (as our weather changes often), the outdoor supervisor is authorized to bring the students inside.
As we approach the cooler weather, we know in WI things can change quickly, in the event RUSD closes schools for weather, Siena follows suit. No one with the possible exception of maintenance is expected to report to work. Staff will receive an all users communication from Siena/Ms. Kimberly Gardner.
Current Handbook Language we will follow:
The school will be closed including CARES supervision, on days when Racine Unified School District is closed. Closings are announced over local radio (WISN 1130, WTMJ 620 / 94.5, WRJN 1400), television (FOX 6, TMJ4, CBS58, WISN 12), and their media websites. Parents will not hear our school name announced on public media unless there are specific circumstances affecting only our school or only all Catholic schools.
School closings will be announced in the media as Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. Staff will receive an email from Ms. Kimberly Gardner. Rarely used, but if a delayed start is announced for Racine Unified School District, St. Rita will follow the same schedule and delay the start to the day.
Parents may use their own discretion to decide whether to keep their children at home for safety. This absence will be recorded as an excused absence.
Safe Environment: How to sign up: Instructions.
