Dear Parents,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. We have several exciting events and important updates to share with you this month.
Mardi Gras Celebration
We are thrilled to announce that our parish will be celebrating Mardi Gras following the weekend masses on March 1st and 2nd. Join us for a fellowship with delicious paczki! It's a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and enjoy some pre-Lenten fun.
Entering the Lenten Season
As we prepare to enter the season of Lent, it's a time for reflection, prayer, and renewal. Lent is a period where we are called to deepen our relationship with God through acts of penance, fasting, and almsgiving. It's a journey of spiritual growth and a reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. Let us embrace this season with open hearts and a commitment to becoming better versions of ourselves.
Counselor's Small Group Lessons
We want to remind parents that our wonderful counselor, Linsey Liebherr, is conducting small group lessons to reinforce social skills and relationship building. These sessions are designed to support all students in developing important life skills and are not an indication that there is something wrong with any individual student. We appreciate your support in encouraging your children to participate.
Read Across America Week
The first week of March is Read Across America Week, and we have some exciting activities planned! Each day, a middle school guest reader will visit a younger class (3K-5) to read the book of the day. This is a fantastic way to foster a love of reading and build connections between our students.
On Friday of Read Across America Week, students will have the opportunity to participate in a book exchange during lunch. Ms. Thomas will have middle school students collect books for the exchange each day (March 3-6). Any books that are left over will be donated to a charity in Racine. We encourage all students to bring in books they are willing to exchange and share with their peers.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events and celebrating the spirit of St. Rita Catholic School together.
Warm regards,
Beth Woodward
Principal, St. Rita Catholic School

Read Across America Week is just around the corner, and we have an amazing lineup of events to celebrate reading and encourage a love for books in our students! Here’s everything you need to know to get involved in this fun and educational week filled with reading and dress up days.
Middle school students will be guest readers in the elementary classrooms to share books from across our country.
We will be hosting a book exchange and doing a ton of reading including DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) and buddy reading with other classes.
We’d love to also celebrate the joy of reading at home! Please send in pictures of your child reading their favorite book, whether it’s at home, in a cozy spot, or with a family member.
These photos will be featured during Read Across America Week to show how our students are enjoying books outside of school. It’s a wonderful way to highlight the importance of reading and encourage others to read together at home. Send pictures to Ms. Thomas at athomas@sienacatholicschools.org.
We’re excited to announce our upcoming Book Exchange happening Friday, March 7 during lunch!
Here’s how it works:
Bring a Book, Take a Book: Students are encouraged to bring in any gently used books that they’re ready to trade.
Book Collection: Start bringing in books Monday, February 24.
Friday’s Exchange: On Friday, students will have the chance to pick out a new-to-them book from the collection! It's a fun way to share stories and find something exciting to read.
We can’t wait to see all the great books your students bring in, and we hope they enjoy the exchange!
Happy reading!
Come and join us on Thursdays at 8:15am at our School Masses. Families are welcome to sit with their students on the right side of the Church. Hope to see you there!
Tablesetters - Community Service Group
Children in kindergarten through 8th grade are welcome to participate in the community service group at St. Rita called Tablesetters. We meet once a month to learn about Catholic social teaching and participate in service opportunities which reflect those teachings. Some examples of projects from the past are: making dog toys for the Humane Society, collecting winter clothes for a local school, making "blessing bags" for the patrons of the St. Patrick's meal program, planting bulbs on the St. Rita grounds, making scarves and hats for the Hospitality Center, and making cards for our homebound parishioners. Participation in Tablesetters gives students the opportunity to play a real part in the local and global work of serving our community. It's fun to work together in helping others! Please fill out the form that was sent home with your child and return it to school before our first meeting.
Religious Education will be collecting tabs again for the Ronald McDonald house.
