Greetings,
We capped this week off with an early celebration of Valentine's Day. Thank you to all of our wonderful families for supporting fun and treats for each classroom. We had so many activities and candy--sorry we sent them home on sugar!
Please do not forget, in person Parent Teacher Conferences are on February 16. These are not required for everyone, but we do want to encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher. I do want to encourage home, school and families to work together for the success of your child. Please reach out. We are here for you.
As Catholics, soon we will be entering into one of the most Holy Seasons. Lent is a solemn religious observance in the Catholic/Liturgical calendar commemorating the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert, according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Our last week of Lent is Holy Week which starts with Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the joyful celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Easter Sunday. My prayers are that you begin your lenten journey with a prayerful heart to encounter Jesus and learn to LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
Blessings,
Dr. Sue

Living Loving and Learning Our Faith: Living as members of our Catholic Faith Community; Loving God and all of His creation; Learning for our future on Earth and Heaven.
We have to recalibrate our smartboards and certain engine parts as well as update our phone apps. Your brain is even more important to recalibrate so we do not act on irrational emotions. How do you do that quickly? Switch to solving problem mode by solving a simple problem before you dive into worry, anxiety, or anger. Name three things you can see, three things you can hear, and three things you can feel right now. Now make your emotional decision or response. You will find that you react more rationally. You will also realize why blind people can pick up so much information without the use of their eyes.

We are so honored to have this wonderful opportunity by Taher! Kids in the Kitchen for 5th Graders!

Sending Love from Second Grade!
In this month of February, mostly everyone focuses on Love, especially on Valentine’s Day. This year, the following week is the somber beginning of Lent and then Holy Week. As second graders we will focus on Lent and how we can make it meaningful to each of us as we get closer to the date when some will have their first Holy Communion in April!
The students in second grade have been very busy since the start of the new year. They completed projects based on the 7 sacraments and presented them to the class. Students made mobiles based on a biome/habitat they chose to research. They completed Google slides for Catholic Schools Week and now they are focused on IXL for homework. We are hoping the work students complete in IXL will have a direct impact on their Star Math scores in spring.
Have a very blessed season of Lent from the Second Grade Class!
Ms. Wiemer

In rainy or subzero weather, students need appropriate outerwear. Students are outdoors several times a day. A hooded sweatshirt for example is not as adequate as a winter jacket. If the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees or below, wind chill factor of “zero” degrees or below, hard rain or blizzard like conditions, recess is most likely to be indoors. The decision is up to the Principal and at times in collaboration with supervisory staff. While outside, if any playground supervisor determines that the weather is too severe for outdoor recess (as our weather changes often), the outdoor supervisor is authorized to bring the students inside.
As we approach the cooler weather, we know in WI things can change quickly, in the event RUSD closes schools for weather, Siena follows suit. No one with the possible exception of maintenance is expected to report to work. Staff will receive an all users communication from Siena/Ms. Kimberly Gardner.
Current Handbook Language we will follow:
The school will be closed including CARES supervision, on days when Racine Unified School District is closed. Closings are announced over local radio (WISN 1130, WTMJ 620 / 94.5, WRJN 1400), television (FOX 6, TMJ4, CBS58, WISN 12), and their media websites. Parents will not hear our school name announced on public media unless there are specific circumstances affecting only our school or only all Catholic schools.
School closings will be announced in the media as Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. Staff will receive an email from Ms. Kimberly Gardner. Rarely used, but if a delayed start is announced for Racine Unified School District, St. Rita will follow the same schedule and delay the start to the day.
Parents may use their own discretion to decide whether to keep their children at home for safety. This absence will be recorded as an excused absence.
