Greetings,
It has been a wonderful week! Congratulations to our new student royal ambassadors! We are excited for their leadership and assisting us during Catholic Schools Week. They are: Josh H., Gemma B., Gianna G., Lily L., Lennon A., Zoe S. and Aven D.
We begin our Winter STAR assessment of student learning, January 17. The assessment will measure reading and math. We take these assessments very seriously as staff and students have worked so hard since the beginning of the school year. We look forward to learning how each student is growing and achieving and were continued learning supports are needed. Please talk with your child about the importance of doing well and utilizing all of their learning as they apply their knowledge to this assessment.
Each year, the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) marks the last week of January as the “National Catholic Schools Week.” This designation reminds us to come together to pray and give thanks for the gift of Catholic education in our communities and nation. The NCEA designates themes for each day.
The following are the themes identified to celebrate this beautiful week in the spirit of our Catholic Faith:
Sunday-Celebrating Our Parish
Monday-Celebrating Our Community
Tuesday-Celebrating Your Students
Wednesday-Celebrating Our Nation
Thursday-Celebrating Vocations
Friday-Celebrating Faculty and Staff
Saturday-Celebrating Families
We invite you to join us on Tuesday, January 31 from 5-7pm. If you stop by with one adult friend and a possible future St. Rita student, make sure you visit the RPSA table to receive an OOU pass for your child(ren) to be used the week AFTER Catholic Schools Week on February 7. We want to encourage each family to bring a future Rory the Royal student in to see St. Rita's great school community. In addition, we invite you to browse through all of the student's Faith Fair projects. We will have some fun gym time--let's get active and great music by Mr. Scaffidi and students. Mr. Hinkle and students will be baking cookies and your child may decorate one! Science STEM activities will be happening as well. Oh and a favorite, each day, we will be participating in a variety of activities celebrating the themes with OOU days! More to come in future newsletters.
Please check in with your child regarding their Faith Fair Projects. These are due soon. If you have any questions, feel free to email your child’s teacher.
Stuff the Bus food and supply drive happens at the same time as CSW. You will be receiving more information regarding the item being collected in order to stuff the bus. Our goal is 1, 000 items!

Physical health and mental health compliment and influence one another. If you have had a poor attitude during a time you were under the weather, then you know what I am talking about. Improving your attitude will improve your physical health. Research shows that happy people are healthier. Eating healthy and exercising to minimize physical ailments will give you a reason to be happy.
A quantum physicist will tell you that your cells communicate with each other so if one cell has a cancer message, it will spread to other cells. This is true with emotions and holding onto negative emotions too long can spread to the cells in the form of disease. This does not mean everyone who has cancer, caused it. It does mean that the power of prayer has a real effect on our physical health.
Hello St. Rita Families!
I hope everyone had a wonderful blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year! Right before Christmas break we finished playing a game called tower topple with 4th - 8th grade. It was a fun game to help work on throwing skills, teamwork and target shooting.
Primary grades had fun with reindeer races and a game called Santa’s helpers. Both activities utilized lots of teamwork, locomotor movements like skipping, galloping, and running.
Preschoolers had fun working out to a Christmas themed exercise workout where they had to guess what ornament an elf was hiding behind and then doingthe exercise that was under the ornament they picked. Each time they picked the correct ornament the elf was hiding behind they earned a point.
We are currently playing a few fun games called capture the ball and jail tag.
Have a spectacular January and stay active!
Mr. Schwaiger
The 5th graders at St. Rita’s are expanding their skills in Math every day. These past few weeks, they’ve been working to discover patterns in the number of zeros when multiplying by powers of 10.
They are working hard and making great progress!
Altar Servers for Thursday Mass were Ella P. and Eli L. The seventh grade class led Mass this week.
We are very excited to bring back Kids Healthy Heart Challenge to St. Rita's. We are partnering with St. Lucy's. Our goal is to re-introduce this to our students, staff and families. We will have a kick off on January 30 for the students. Our goal is to have at least 100 families register and 18 families take the Finn's Challenge. More details to come but this is just to get us thinking about being active and eating healthy to keep our HEARTS in shape.
For more than 45 years, the American Heart Association has been making a difference with our Kids Heart Challenge. In this video, you’ll hear from a former participant, current coordinators and school administrators about the impact of this important program. Here is the link:

The American Heart Association is partners with schools across the country to create a community of lifesavers who recognize the warning signs & symptoms and know how to react in an emergency situation. They have set an aggressive goal of introducing 1.8 million families to Hands Only CPR. With your help - we will help crush that goal!
Please bring items to school starting January 23. Collection ends February 1.
We would love to have you!

In rainy or subzero weather, students need appropriate outerwear. Students are outdoors several times a day. A hooded sweatshirt for example is not as adequate as a winter jacket. If the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees or below, wind chill factor of “zero” degrees or below, hard rain or blizzard like conditions, recess is most likely to be indoors. The decision is up to the Principal and at times in collaboration with supervisory staff. While outside, if any playground supervisor determines that the weather is too severe for outdoor recess (as our weather changes often), the outdoor supervisor is authorized to bring the students inside.
As we approach the cooler weather, we know in WI things can change quickly, in the event RUSD closes schools for weather, Siena follows suit. No one with the possible exception of maintenance is expected to report to work. Staff will receive an all users communication from Siena/Ms. Kimberly Gardner.
Current Handbook Language we will follow:
The school will be closed including CARES supervision, on days when Racine Unified School District is closed. Closings are announced over local radio (WISN 1130, WTMJ 620 / 94.5, WRJN 1400), television (FOX 6, TMJ4, CBS58, WISN 12), and their media websites. Parents will not hear our school name announced on public media unless there are specific circumstances affecting only our school or only all Catholic schools.
School closings will be announced in the media as Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. Staff will receive an email from Ms. Kimberly Gardner. Rarely used, but if a delayed start is announced for Racine Unified School District, St. Rita will follow the same schedule and delay the start to the day.
Parents may use their own discretion to decide whether to keep their children at home for safety. This absence will be recorded as an excused absence.
