Dear Parents/Guardians,
Despite the cold weather, we all are very grateful for the many opportunities we have to engage your child in their own learning journey. We are seeing individual growth in reading, writing and math which in turns demonstrates success in all other subjects.
We are very proud of our student body participating in giving back to others this time of year. As part of living our Catholic faith, it is vital that we help others.
For example: 3K/sock collection, 6th grade/Mitten Tree and 8th grade/Giving Tree. There are countless ways we can think of others just as Jesus did throughout his life. He was a role model—giving to others which included his life on the cross for us.
Shortly after Thanksgiving we move into the beautiful season of ADVENT.
The first Sunday of Advent is Nov. 27 and ends on December 24. The first week is known as HOPE. It is sometimes called the “Prophecy Candle” in remembrance of the Prophets, especially Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. It represents the anticipation of the coming of the Messiah.
The four traditional advent themes for the four advent Sundays are:
God's People -The Candle of Hope
The Old Testament Prophets - The Candle of Peace
John the Baptist - The Candle of Love
Mary the Mother of Jesus - The Candle of Joy
The four Sundays preceding Christmas are recognized as the four virtues; before the birth of Jesus. The candles on the Advent wreath symbolize Hope, Love, Joy and Peace. The candles are lit in that order, beginning on Sunday, November 27. Please take a moment this Advent season to purchase an ADVENT wreath for your home. It is a wonderful way to pray together and learn about our faith. St. Rita’s students will be participating in several advent prayer services during this time. We are looking forward to the students sharing their grade level prayer service with the rest of the school. Thank you to the staff for their tireless efforts in leading/teaching these prayer service blessings to our students.
With a joyful heart, I wish each of you a very Happy Thanksgiving! May your time be filled with smiles, laughter and family joy. Grateful for you trusting us with your children and grateful for the joys they bring to us!
Blessings,
Dr. Sue

Counselor, Coach Bodi reminds us to use our tool kits...when trying to resolve problems.
Be open to a completely different strategy for new types of problems. Problem solvers are what the employers of today are looking for. The top ten jobs for students graduating in 10 years do not even exist yet but learning how to be a problem solver will be available for everyone.
The 8th grade class is excited to bring the Giving Tree to our school this year. You can brighten the holidays for a child in need by choosing an item off the sign up genius. We are working with a Milwaukee area Catholic school to provide gifts to 50 students in need. Please choose from one or more items from sign up genius and return the unwrapped gift by November 30! Eighth graders will wrap the gifts and arrange to deliver them. Thank you for your generosity.
Christmas is coming. Children in our area need cold weather gear. The 6th grade is sponsoring a hat, scarf and mitten tree. Please bring hats, scarves and mittens to hang on the tree that will be by the front office. We will be collecting from November 28-December 20. All items will be donated to HALO in Racine.
Our 3K learners are excited to help the residents of St.Monicas. We are collecting socks.
Adult socks, men's or women's (regular, fuzzy, patterned, holiday et.) .
Please donate between now and Dec 15.
Place the new socks in a Ziploc bag and turn them into the main office.

In rainy or subzero weather, students need appropriate outerwear. Students are outdoors several times a day. A hooded sweatshirt for example is not as adequate as a winter jacket. If the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees or below, wind chill factor of “zero” degrees or below, hard rain or blizzard like conditions, recess is most likely to be indoors. The decision is up to the Principal and at times in collaboration with supervisory staff. While outside, if any playground supervisor determines that the weather is too severe for outdoor recess (as our weather changes often), the outdoor supervisor is authorized to bring the students inside.
As we approach the cooler weather, we know in WI things can change quickly, in the event RUSD closes schools for weather, Siena follows suit. No one with the possible exception of maintenance is expected to report to work. Staff will receive an all users communication from Siena/Ms. Kimberly Gardner.
Current Handbook Language we will follow:
The school will be closed including CARES supervision, on days when Racine Unified School District is closed. Closings are announced over local radio (WISN 1130, WTMJ 620 / 94.5, WRJN 1400), television (FOX 6, TMJ4, CBS58, WISN 12), and their media websites. Parents will not hear our school name announced on public media unless there are specific circumstances affecting only our school or only all Catholic schools.
School closings will be announced in the media as Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. Staff will receive an email from Ms. Kimberly Gardner. Rarely used, but if a delayed start is announced for Racine Unified School District, St. Rita will follow the same schedule and delay the start to the day.
Parents may use their own discretion to decide whether to keep their children at home for safety. This absence will be recorded as an excused absence.
