June 6 Report Cards Sent Home
We are in the final weeks of school, yet still so much learning to do! The students completed their STAR (Reading and math) assessments. The student report will be coming home today for grades K-8. Please check your child's backpack or ask your older student. If for any reason, you are missing something, please notify Ms. Folker at kfolker@sienacatholicschools.org. She will be most happy to assist.
The best way to follow everything is to follow the calendar in this newsletter. It will help you keep everything straight as we wind down the year.
I am very proud of the staff and students for their tireless efforts to keep focused on learning. It is a gift to see them engaged in their classes! And, it is a special joy watching them play outside. They have so much energy.
Unfortunately, Field Day will be canceled this year as Mr. Schwaiger is out taking care of his dad who had double by pass surgery. Please keep Mr. Schwaiger in your thoughts and prayers. We are blessed to have Ms. Pam Klemm running our physical education classes. I heard she is working the students very hard!
We are all looking forward to the Spring Concert. The students voices are so beautiful and always KUDDOS to Mr. Scaffidi for teaching us all how to sing, play the guitar or play our boom-whackers.
St. Rita's Festa is a big day, please read the information in this newsletter. Permission slips will be coming home soon if you plan to take your child off campus. The permission slip provides us with an account of who is off campus. Again, there is no carpooling. You may only take your child out to lunch. See further down for more details.
Many Blessings,
Dr. Sue

Living Loving and Learning Our Faith: Living as members of our Catholic Faith Community; Loving God and all of His creation; Learning for our future on Earth and Heaven.
Healthy Use of Time for Youth
One or more hours a week in the arts: music, theater etc…
One or more hours a week in sports, clubs, or organizations in the community.
One or more hours in a religious institution or spiritual activity.
Time at home and two or less events with friends.
Overdoing any of these is not necessarily better. Balance and time with family is a priority.
Watch for your child's Star Test Reports to come home today. Star Assessments are computer-adaptive tests (CATs) for pre-K—12 students that measure reading, math, and early literacy skills. The teacher can then use the assessment results to monitor student progress and inform teaching. The test is administered 3 times a year (fall, spring, and winter). The report coming home summarizes your child's scores on the test. As with any test, many factors can affect a student's scores. It is important to understand that these test scores provide only one picture of how your child is doing in school. The reports are yours to keep. They do not have to be signed and returned to school. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
Sixth Grade has just finished learning about Greek Gods. They read the stories of Prometheus, Odysseus, and Arachne. Then they wrote essays using evidence from the stories. They loved playing the Amplify Myth World Quest online. They are just beginning the book, Summer of the Mariposas, a Mexican retelling of The Odyssey. After just one day of reading, the students were begging to read more!
Seventh grade has jumped into the world of Edgar Allan Poe. They have been reading like a movie director-noticing the details. Then they watch animations of the short stories and poems to compare them to the text. So far they have studied “The Tell Tale Heart,” “The Cask of Amontillado, and “The Raven.” Other Edgar Allan Poe works are available in the Amplify library so students can read them on their own. Soon they will start their research unit about the Gold Rush
Eighth grade just finished reading Romeo and Juliet and writing essays about it. They particularly enjoyed watching clips from the play being performed in order to compare it to the text and better understand what is going on. The students will be beginning to learn about the Holocaust.

A St. Rita's School Royal Ambassador Service Update
The Royal Ambassadors had their end of the year board meeting and pizza party on May 3rd. Several important initiatives were discussed. Two goals got the most attention. The Ambassadors felt the Patty O' Grams and Candy Grams should continue and expand by adding St. Nick Grams. Additionally, they felt there should be a plan to solicit more boys to the next group as well as expand the group to ten members. Students, please reach out to your community service representative to make your voice heard . A special thanks goes out to the Royal Parent Association for supporting the work of the St. Rita's Royal Ambassadors.
Altar Servers for Thursday Mass were Madison and Lily. The fourth grade class led Mass this week.
Who is St. Rita?
Santa Rita is often referred to as Saint Rita of Cascia — an Italian widow and Augustinian nun who lived from 1381 to 1457. She is known at the Patroness of Impossible Causes and became a nun at age 36 after the death of her husband and her twin sons. When she was around 60 years of age, a small wound appeared on her forehead while she prayed. The wound was considered a partial Stigmata in reference to the crown of thorns that encircled Christ’s head, and she bore the wound until her death at age 76. When her body was prepared for funeral and later exhumed over the years, her forehead wound remained the same with glistening light reflected from the drops of blood. Her body also showed no decomposition and she was declared incorruptible.
Saint Rita forever became associated with a rose. When nearing the end of her life, she asked a visiting cousin to bring her a rose from her old home. Her cousin complied and was surprised to find a single rose blooming in the January garden and brought it back to Saint Rita.

General Football information
The Football Program operates under the overall RYS philosophy of “Giving Kids a Sporting Chance”. The objectives of this program are to develop the physical and mental well being of the individual, to increase self-confidence and self-respect, and to encourage leadership development. We wish to develop better citizens through team play and sportsmanship-like competition. Provide a quality physical education program, allow every youth player to participate, and develop their skills to the extent they desire. We teach a positive attitude toward competition and discourage the “win at all costs” attitude. The goal is to teach each player that they are a winner if they give their best effort-regardless of the score.
Be sure to check out our Facebook page and all the great videos we post! We need you to "LIKE" us and share with family, friends and future St. Rita Royals!
We ignite a spirit of excellence in faith, knowledge,
and service, inspiring students to be who God created them to be.
