Greetings,
As we wrap up 2022, I hope you have been able to experience all that St. Rita’s has to offer by visiting and reading our newsletters, Class DOJO, emails, KSWIFT messages, Facebook, Siena’s Community Newsletters and Dr.Sue’sView videos!
We all have enjoyed getting into the holiday spirit. The true meaning of Christmas is in everyone’s heart. The music concert was nothing short of amazing and to see everyone shine is a blessing. A huge shout out to Mr. Scaffidi for sharing his talents with everyone. Many thanks to all of the students for sharing their voices with us too! Just so beautiful…
We have 4 days of learning and fun next week before the Christmas Break which starts on Friday, December 23 (No school for staff and students). All of our families, our Royal Parent School Association (RPSA) and volunteers have made a huge difference in providing an additional layer of support and care. It does take a community to embrace the quality educational environment needed and St. Rita’s is by far the BEST!
With any luck, we will get a fun layer of snow for the children to enjoy–sledding hills, building forts, ice skating and even an old fashioned snowball fight. Do not forget to take time to read and relax.
I wish each one of you a beautiful Christmas Season and a very Happy New Year! May 2023 bring love, peace, joy, happiness and good health to each of you. Thank you for investing in St. Rita’s. We are grateful and filled with gratitude to serve you and your child(ren).
Merry Christmas!
Dr. Sue

Merry Christmas to all in the St. Rita Community!
It is truly the most wonderful time of the year! There is nothing like seeing the wonder and magic of the Christmas season through the eyes of children. Even though there is a lot of Christmas fun going on, the 3rd graders are still hard at work!
In Reading we are just finishing up a unit on Animal Classification. The 3rd graders have been deeply engaged in learning about different types of animals and how scientists sort the animals into groups. Every week we also have a different grammar unit. As part of the grammar unit activities during the week we do a “scoot” around the room to see what we know about that particular unit. This past week we learned Irregular Past Tense Verbs.
Math is the “area” we’re probably working the hardest in as we are wrapping up a chapter on Area! We have learned how to find areas of shapes, including squares, rectangles and irregular shapes in standard and non standard units. It has been both fun and challenging. I am so proud of how hard all the 3rd graders have been working!
In Religion class, we not only studied the Sacraments of Healing in the Catholic Church but also had the opportunity to have Reconciliation with Father Michael.
Social Studies has had us traveling the world to research different winter holidays celebrated around the world.
Of course it’s not all work – we are having some fun getting ready to celebrate Christmas! We are as busy as Santa’s elves making gifts and cards for our families, having fun with Christmas STEM challenges such as building Gingerbread Traps for our Gingerbread Babies, building the Tallest Christmas Tree and Santa delivering presents by parachute! Christmas wouldn’t be complete without decorating cookies and hunkering down to watch some celebrated Christmas movies.
From our hearts to yours we wish everyone in the St. Rita community a very blessed Christmas and the happiest New Year!
With Christmas just around the corner, our gym was decorated and ready to go for the concert.
We had great Christmas songs and heard beautiful voices of our students.
We hope you were able to check out the gorgeous Christmas decorations that the kiddos made.
There were wreaths, Christmas trees, and even stockings that were all decked out with glitter.
Students will be able to take home their decorations home next week.
Thank you to Siena for this new staff talent recognition program. Many fine outstanding individuals were nominated this year! We are extremely happy for Ms. Cheryl Maraccini who won! She was recognized for the core value of Excellence in Education!
Mass this week was led by 5th grade. Altar servers today were Ella P. & Madison Y.

In rainy or subzero weather, students need appropriate outerwear. Students are outdoors several times a day. A hooded sweatshirt for example is not as adequate as a winter jacket. If the outdoor temperature is 10 degrees or below, wind chill factor of “zero” degrees or below, hard rain or blizzard like conditions, recess is most likely to be indoors. The decision is up to the Principal and at times in collaboration with supervisory staff. While outside, if any playground supervisor determines that the weather is too severe for outdoor recess (as our weather changes often), the outdoor supervisor is authorized to bring the students inside.
As we approach the cooler weather, we know in WI things can change quickly, in the event RUSD closes schools for weather, Siena follows suit. No one with the possible exception of maintenance is expected to report to work. Staff will receive an all users communication from Siena/Ms. Kimberly Gardner.
Current Handbook Language we will follow:
The school will be closed including CARES supervision, on days when Racine Unified School District is closed. Closings are announced over local radio (WISN 1130, WTMJ 620 / 94.5, WRJN 1400), television (FOX 6, TMJ4, CBS58, WISN 12), and their media websites. Parents will not hear our school name announced on public media unless there are specific circumstances affecting only our school or only all Catholic schools.
School closings will be announced in the media as Siena Catholic Schools of Racine. Staff will receive an email from Ms. Kimberly Gardner. Rarely used, but if a delayed start is announced for Racine Unified School District, St. Rita will follow the same schedule and delay the start to the day.
Parents may use their own discretion to decide whether to keep their children at home for safety. This absence will be recorded as an excused absence.
