Texture

REAL TEXTURE

Real texture refers to the way the surface of an object actually feels when touched.

The kitty here looks and feels furry

VISUAL TEXTURE (INVENTED)

Invented texture is made up by the artist. Depending on the artist's choice,

invented textures can range from looking somewhat real or completely invented.

The flesh texture in Vincent Van Gogh's self portrait is an example of completely invented texture

while the beard is closer to simulating the real texture

VISUAL TEXTURE (SIMULATED)

Simulated texture is the type that is created to look like what it is.

Photorealistic art depends on the use of Simulated Texture to make the painting/drawing look real

For example, in a painting of velvet that is made to look like real velvet.
