1. Load Photopea
2. File > New.
3. Follow example below to name your file correctly.
EXAMPLE:
Comic Book Cover Planning Hooker Martina.psd
4. Select the PRINT and LETTER presets and click CREATE
5. Select the TYPE TOOL
6. Click and DRAG with the TYPE TOOL to create AREA TYPE.
7. Type "COMIC BOOK COVER PLAN:"
4. Choose Basic Idea (May 3)
Watch the video with the class or on your own
On your document, add "Basic Idea:" as a subheading and include one of the options listed below
Parody
• Mash Up with Two Characters
• Original Character (Come up with your own)
• A real person / pet as a villain or hero
• Inspired by
5. Final Planning Text (May 4 - 6)
Now add the following 5 subheads:
• Description:
Describe your comic book series• Title
Give your comic series a name• Subtitle
Give the specific comic book a title• Main Action
Describe what you will draw for your cover• Logo:
Come up with a name for the comic book publisherType in your ideas after each subhead (See example right)
6: Use Line Tool to Make 4 Vertical Rectangles (May 5 & 6)
Turn OFF your TYPE Layer
HIGHLIGHT the BACKGROUND Layer
Select the LINE TOOL (Grouped with the shape tools)
Show Rulers (View > Rulers)
Hold SHIFT and draw a straight VERTICAL line at 4 1/4 inches on the horizontal ruler
Hold SHIFT and draw a straight HORIZONTAL line at 5 1/2 inches on the vertical ruler
MERGE the 2 LINE LAYERS with the BACKGROUND layer
7: Two or More Composition Planning Thumbnail Sketches (May 9 & 10)
1.Review design requirements (see right)
2. Use a TABLET to sketch out 2 or more composition ideas. You can do them all on the BACKGROUND layer or you can use separate layers.
3. Each thumbnail sketch should contain the same 4 elements (Logo, Title, Subtitle & Action) but sized and positioned differently.
4. Use rectangles and lines to plan for text instead of writing it all out.
5. REQUIREMENT! Logo & Title should be at the TOP
6. RECOMMENDED: Use different layers for each element (See left)
Reminder: You are planning PLACEMENT & SIZE. Sketches should NOT BE DETAILED

Open your assignment in PHOTOPEA and the PRIVATE COMMENTS window in the Google Classroom assignment posting.
SWITCH SEATS with a classmate so that you can review each others' work and give feedback.
LOOK at your classmates WORK and the RUBRIC. Include one COMPLIMENT and one SUGGESTION BASED on the RUBRIC below . Also include your NAME (See example, right)
Make sure your PEER does the SAME for you. Check that the peer review they wrote is BASED on the RUBRIC. If it is NOT, ask them to EDIT it so you will not lose points.
If you are having trouble getting someone to do a peer review, let me know

Include a Reflection & Self-Grading
Also include a REFLECTION: What were you SUCCESSFUL at? What did you STRUGGLE with?
Finally add what GRADE you think you deserve.
Rubric
25 points --- PLANNING TEXT: Completed as directed
50 points --- 2 SKETCHES 2 Thumbnail sketches were completed. The 2 Thumbnail sketches show exploration of size and placement. Both sketches include a main action, subtitle, logo and title. The logo and the title are at the top.
10 points --- THUMBNAIL SKETCH PURPOSE There are few details and no shading. Thumbnail sketches show understanding of the idea of planning and not doing carefully finished drawings. The text was planned with rectangles and lines and not written out.
5 points --- REFLECTION and SELF-GRADING: Private comment with reflection and self-grading is included
5 points --- PEER REVIEW: is included in the Private Comments section of the GC assignment posting.
5 points --- TIMELY COMPLETION: The assignment is completed no later than a week past the due date
