Multiple Choice 6: Text and Peer Review

1. Lesson Goals

SWBAT

1...choose and format fonts in a way that

supports their Multiple Choice illustrations

2...create and edit multiple text paths and

text frames.

3...arrange and format paragraphs and text

paths so that space is evenly distributed

and the composition is visually balanced.


2. Reset Character Panel to Default Settings

1. QUIT Photoshop

2. RESTART and hold COMMAND + OPTION + SHIFT

.

3. Click YES to delete the PS settings file


3.  Create 4 Separate Text Paths for Answers

1. Open your Multiple Choice Word Doc.

.

2. Highlight and copy ONE of your ANSWERS

.

3. Select the HORIZONTAL TYPE tool, click (DO NOT DRAG)

on your file to create a text insertion point, and PASTE the copied ANSWER.

4. DESELECT the TYPE TOOL by clicking on any other tool in the tool

box.

.

5. Repeat the process until you have all 4 answers on your PS file


6. Create 1 Text Frame for Question

1. Open your Multiple Choice Word Doc.

2. Highlight and copy your question

.

3. Select the HORIZONTAL TYPE tool and

CLICK and DRAG to create a RECTANGULAR TEXT FRAME.

4. Paste your Question text into the text frame


6. About Choosing Fonts

1. The purpose of the text is to INFORM your AUDIENCE

and support your Multiple Choice illustration.

Choose a simple EASY to READ font.

.

2. A DECORATIVE font can be hard to read so one

for your answer NUMBERS or LETTERS only.

3. MAKE CHOICES as an DESIGNER!

Do not use Myriad Pro because it is the default font setting.


About Formatting Fonts

1. Open the CHARACTER PANEL: Window > Character


2. Remember, keep it SIMPLE. The text is there to support

your illustration and inform your audience.

4. Use SENTENCE CASE. The use of all capital letters

is more appropriate logo design and signage.

.

5. Choose BLACK or a SIMPLE COLOR that already

exists in the layout and make sure it CONTRASTS

against the background so that it's easy to read.

.

6. Use special effects, like drop shadow and stroke,

only if they don't overpower your multiple choice illustration.


6. Create Even Borders of Space Around Text

1. Observe the even borders of space in the Teen Vogue cover (Left)

.

2. Scale, Arrange and use Paragraph Alignment to create even borders

of space whenever possible.

.

3. Open the Paragraph Panel: Window > Paragraph


6. Assessment

Your file should consist of at least 11 images

layers combined to create your own original art

.

There should be 2 images for each possible

multiple choice response and 3 images for 

the background
