Caricature L10:                            Name & Title, JPEG & GIF

1. Lesson Goals

SWBAT:

1...Use the SELECT GROUP Option to POSITION and SCALE layers and create VISUAL BALANCE

2....TRIM hidden pixels outside the printable area. use the canvas size option to add a WHITE BORDER

3...add a TITLE and NAME to the white border

4...create 2 additional DUPLICATES of project, one in JPEG format and the other in GIF.

2. Trim Away Hidden Pixels

1. Select the CROP TOOL to create a crop SELECTION around the EDGES of your project.

2. Choose the TRIM option in the IMAGE MENU IMAGE > TRIM

TRIMMING your project will TRIM AWAY any PIXELS that are HIDDEN outside the edges of your project

3. Add Border (Change Canvas Size)

1. UNLOCK your GUIDES in the View Menu so your vertical guide stays in the middle

2. Open the CANVAS SIZE Window from the IMAGE MENU.

4. Change the Width to 8.5" and Height to 11"

4. Save your work

4. Set Foreground Color to Black

1. CHECK that the FOREGROUND color is set to Black

5. Add a Title & Your Name

1. Zoom into the lower right corner of your file

2. Select the Type tool

3. In the Options Bar set your Font to MYRIAD PRO REGULAR, 12PT

4. Click (DON'T DRAG) with the type tool to create Point Type and type in the necessary text in TITLE CASE

5. Use the TYPE tool to highlight your TITLE and change the style to ITALIC and the Point size to 14 pt

6. Check your work against the SAMPLE  and specifications provided LEFT

7. Save your work

6.  Proofread and Edit Text as Needed

1. Check for mistakes in spelling and spacing

2. Check that you used mixed case

3. Check that the Title is 14 Point, Italic, that the rest of the text is Regular 12 Point, that the font is MYRIAD PRO, and that the case is TITLE CASE.

7.  Add More Guides

1. Click on the vertical ruler and drag a vertical guide to the 8" mark on the horizontal ruler (see 1)

2. Click on the horizontal ruler and drag a horizontal guide to the 10.5" mark on the vertical ruler (see 2)

3. Use the Move tool to reposition your Title and Name text so that it is aligned to the guides as shown (see 3)

4. Make sure all your text areas have nice borders of space around them.  Don't cramp your text.  Scale your art down if needed.  Move your caption up if needed.

8.  Create Visual Balance

1. Select all your Caricature Layers (You can put them in a folder and set the Move Tool options to "Select Groups")

Required for Periods 2 & 7

2. Scale/Position your Caricature in a way that creates VISUAL BALANCE and a BORDER of SPACE around it

3. Review Balance if needed


9. Save Your PSD!!!!!!!

1. Make sure to SAVE your work before you proceed to the next step!

10. Create a Flattened JPEG file

1. Open the SAVE AS Window through the FILE MENU FILE > SAVE AS.

2.Choose JPEG in the FILE FORMAT drop down MENU

3. The JPEG file will be on your desktop. It's closed

11. Create GIF file for Website

1. Open the SAVE for WEB option in the FILE MENU FILE > SAVE FOR WEB

2. Look at the UPPER LEFT of Save for Web WINDOW and make sure GIF is selected (See 1)

3. Look at the BOTTOM of Save for Web WINDOW to make sure the the Constrain Proportions icon (The Chain Link) is set to constrain. (See 2)

4. CHOOSE one of the OPTIONS below DEPENDING on whether your PAGE ORIENTATION is TALL or WIDE and TYPE in the WIDTH measurement ONLY (See 3)

TALL COMPOSITIONS:

• Enter in 699 for Width ONLY. (Height will change automatically)

WIDE COMPOSITIONS:

• Enter in 899 for Width ONLY. (Height will change automatically)

5. Click the SAVE button at the BOTTOM of the Save for Web WINDOW. (See 4)

6. Again, click the SAVE button in the SAVE OPTIMIZED AS Window and choose DESKTOP for LOCATION

1. Drag the following 3 files into the SUBMIT FOLDER for your Class

2. Click on the Submit Folder Link for your class below
