Multiple Choice 10:                                           Canvas, Title & Name, JPEG & GIF

1. Lesson Goals 

SWBAT:

1....add correctly FORMATTED and POSITIONED TITLES and their NAMES to their Multiple Choice projects

2...create 2 additional DUPLICATES of project, one in JPEG format and the other in GIF.

1. Check your work against the Rubrics

2. Refer back to previous Lessons if you need to catch up

3. Add more detail to your project for Bonus points

3. Trim Away Any Hidden Pixels

1. Select the CROP TOOL to create a crop SELECTION around the EDGES of your project.

2. Choose the TRIM option in the IMAGE MENU (IMAGE > TRIM)

TRIMMING will only work on PIXELS. All VECTOR Smart Object Layers and LAYER STYLES must be RASTERIZED before you can TRIM.


TRIMMING your project will TRIM AWAY any PIXELS that are HIDDEN outside the edges of your project.

4. Add Border (Change Canvas Size)

Did you complete section 3 above?

1. Open the CANVAS SIZE Window from the IMAGE MENU. Image > Canvas Size:

2. Change the Width to 11" and Height to x 8.5"

3. Save your work


5. Add Text Path with Title & Your Name

1. Select the Type tool

2. IN THE OPTIONS BAR choose ARIAL REGULAR 14 pt

3. Chose black or another dark color in the FOREGROUND color in your TOOL BOX

4. Click (DON'T DRAG) with the type tool and type in a PROJECT TITLE followed by the word "by" and then YOUR NAME (See Sample LEFT).

5. Use the TYPE tool to highlight only your NAME and change it to 12 pt

6. Use the MOVE TOOL to reposition your text as shown below

7. Check your work against the SAMPLE and specifications provided ABOVE LEFT

8. Save your work

6. Proofread and Edit Your Text

1. Check for mistakes in spelling and spacing

2. Check that you used mixed case

3. Check that the Title is 14 Point, that the rest of the text is 12 Point and that the font is ARIAL REGULAR

4. Correct as needed

7. Position Text

1. Use the Move tool to reposition your Title and Name text so that it is positioned exactly as shown

8. Save As JPEG with the Format Drop Down Menu

1. SAVE your Multiple Choice. PSD file

2. Open the SAVE AS Window through the FILE MENU: FILE > SAVE AS.

3. Choose JPEG in the FILE FORMAT drop down MENU

The JPEG file will be on your desktop. It's closed

9. Save for Web

1. Open the SAVE for WEB option in the FILE MENU FILE > SAVE FOR WEB

2. Look at the UPPER LEFT of Save for Web WINDOW and make sure GIF is selected (See 1)

3. Look at the BOTTOM of Save for Web WINDOW to make sure the the Constrain Proportions icon (The Chain Link) is set to constrain. (See 2)

4. CHOOSE one of the OPTIONS below DEPENDING on whether your PAGE ORIENTATION is TALL or WIDE and TYPE in the WIDTH measurement ONLY (See 3)

• Enter in 900 for Width ONLY.

(Height will change automatically)

5. Click the SAVE button at the BOTTOM of the Save for Web WINDOW. (See 4)

6. Again, click the SAVE button in the SAVE OPTIMIZED AS Window and choose DESKTOP for LOCATION
