A color wheel is a graphic organizer that can be used to understand color relationships, color types, and the results of mixing certain colors. There are three primary, three secondary, and six tertiary colors. The colors are positioned in-between the colors that make them.


A value scale shows the gradation of values from light to dark starting with tints that are created by adding white and ending with shades that are created by adding black. The middle shape on this value scale shows the pure color before the value has been changed.


Contrast of value is created when a light tint is placed next to a dark shade.


Contrast of color is created when a pair of complementary colors are used in an artwork.


Unity of color is created when color is repeated in an artwork. This monochromatic/analogous color scheme repeats the color (.......).


Unity of value is created when similar values are repeated; artists can repeat dark shades or light tints.
