2.  Decide on Cover Article

1. Review your 6 Articles (Teasers plus Subheads).

2. Choose the one you think you can find the most interesting image for.


2.  Review Professional Examples of Cover Images & Mastheads

• More Magazine Covers

1. Notice the use of one strong singular image

2. Notice the strategy for creating negative space for text

3. Notice the size, alignment, and position of the Masthead

3.  Search for Image Possibilities

1. Type in search words that relate to your cover article

2.  Use tools to search for large images

3. Find images with negative space or unified areas of color/value for placing text

4. Download and name files so you easily find them later


4. Sketch Masthead and Image

1. Fold a piece of paper into quarters for 2 - 4 sketches

2. Start by sketching a rectangle or the text for your Masthead

3. Next, sketch in your image while thinking about where you will put the text





5.  Sketch Teasers and Teaser Subheads

1. Continue by adding rectangles/lines to indicate text size and placement

2. Sketch 2-4 different composition ideas.

6. Assessment
