1. Lesson Goals

SWBAT:

1..explain how artists use VALUE to create UNITY of VALUE

2...create a UNITY of VALUE illustration for their color pages

3...Use Guides and Print tiling to organize illustrations and text NEATLY and inside the PRINTABLE area


2. Learn About Unity of Value

The Design Principle UNITY is created by REPEATING one of the 7 ART ELEMENTS ELEMENTS

Unity of VALUE is created by repeating VALUE(SHADES or TINTS)

Example with SHADES: A design with DARK SHADES of Red, Blue-Green, and Orange has UNITY of VALUE

Example with TINTS: A design with LIGHT TINTS ofRed, Blue-Green, and Orange has UNITY of VALUE


3. Open Your Color Page

1. You should have gotten at least as far as the example shown left.

2. If you're behind, please complete today's lesson anyway!

3. Catch up in class after the lesson or come to the Mac Lab during a free period

4. Choose Shades or Tints

1. Decide on which way you will show Unity of Value. Will you REPEAT VALUES that are DARK

or

Will you REPEAT VALUES that are LIGHT?

2. Look at the color wheel and choose 2 or more VERY LIGHT tints or 2 or more VERY DARK shades

5. Create Unity of Value Illustration

1. Use your eyedropper to pull the values into your

UNITY of VALUE  illustration.

2. You can use as many different colors as you would like, just make sure to repeat shades or repeat tints

6. View Menu > Rulers & Print Tiling

1. VIEW MENU > SHOW RULERS (Command R) 

Make sure the HORIZONTAL ruler is at ZERO just above the top LEFT corner of your page

2. Right Click on the ruler to CHANGE units to INCHES if you need to.

3. VIEW MENU > SHOW PRINT TILING.  Show PRINT TILING to view the PRINTABLE area of your color page. You will need to make sure that all your drawings and text are INSIDE the PRINT TILING AREA

Ask Ms. Hooker for help of your print tiling looks weird

7. View Menu > Lock Guides

1. DRAG a VERTICAL ruler to the middle of your PAGE

(4.25" on your horizontal ruler)

2. VIEW MENU > GUIDES > LOCK GUIDES

3. You can UNLOCK Guides and LOCK them AGAIN easily by RIGHT-CLICKING on your ARTBOARD.

4. Make sure you have at least SIX GUIDES including one VERTICAL one at 4.25"

1. Save your work before you hand it in!

2. Click on the Submit Folder Link for your class below
