*07Poster L1: Getting Started

1. Project Goals

SWBAT:

Import Text
Create Columns of Text
Change Text Attributes
Create & Edit Paragraph & Character Styles
Copy & Apply Text Attributes by Sampling Type
Warp Type around an Object
Reshape Text with Warp
Create Text on a Path with Shapes
Create Text Outlines

2. Lesson Goals

SWBAT:

Import Text
Create Columns of Text
Change Text Attributes

3. Download 07Poster File, Rename it

1. 07Poster.ai

2. Rename the file 07 Poster followed by a space, your last name, then your first and finally .ai

example:

07Poster Hooker Martina.ai

4. Delete Illustrator Preferences

1. Quit Illustrator by choosing Quit from the Illustrator Program Menu or by Right-Clicking on the Illustrator icon on your Dock.

2. Hold down 3 Keys with one hand:

Command, Option & Shift

3. Load Illustrator

5. Reset Workspace

1. Window > Workspace > Reset Essentials

6. Open 07Poster File

1. Open your 07Poster File

7. Working with Area Type

1. Select the SELECTION TOOL from the TOOLS PANEL

2. Click on the paragraph of text to see the BOUNDING BOX and TABS

3. Notice the RED PLUS SIGN at the lower right corner

4. Click on the RIGHT BOTTOM CORNER tab and click and drag to resize the AREA TYPE bigger and smaller to reveal and hide all of the text.

5. Return the area type bounding box to it's original size (approximately W: 3.5" and H: 2")

7. Add Text

1. With your type tool, click to create an Insertion point at the beginning of the paragraph.

2. Type

Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze

3. Leave your curser at the end of the word sneeze and hit the RETURN KEY

8. Load Hidden Text into Loaded Text Icon

1. Make sure the Area Type is SELECTED with the SELECTION TOOL.

2. With the SELECTION TOOL, click on the out port (red plus sign)

3. Move your curser away from to see the loaded text icon (see left).

8. Create 2nd Area for Loaded Text

1. Make sure the GUIDES are SHOWING

View > Guides > Show Guides

2. Choose View > Fit Artboard In Window.

(Command 0)

3. Towards the bottom of the artboard, click and drag from the upper-left corner of the aqua guide box, down and to the right corner of the guide box.

9. See Text Flow into New Area and the Thread

1. Choose View > Fit Artboard In Window.

2. Towards the bottom of the artboard, click and drag from the upper-left corner of the aqua guide box, down and to the right corner of the guide box.
